My body shuddered uncontrollably at our contact. I was in fact too stunned to say a word, and the only thing I could do was stare at Xavier. Everything happened too fast for me to even think about it.
The last thing I expected was Xavier defending the moon-like pack.
Rick moved closer to us. “I will take him back to his room.”
I looked up at him. “What exactly happened?”
“Well, he woke up suddenly, and I had to tell him about your pack. He got up even though he still felt weak and said he had to stop the Alphas immediately. That was why we came,” he explained.
I felt moved. Did he just save my pack? He could have stayed back, but he didn't. What was that?
I stared back at Xavier, at his perfectly sculptured face. What was he thinking? I would like to ask him that.
Rick bent to piggyback him. I assisted him until Xavier was safely on him. I watched him walk out.
I couldn't think for what seemed like some minutes. So, if I had decided to let Xavier die, does that mean I might not even be able to save my pack?
We were so close, so close to getting ruined forever.
I stepped out of the room. Mercury was still waiting for me. She hurried to me when I was out of the meeting room.
“The King,” her voice shook, and I had that feeling she didn't know how to construct the question.
I smiled. “Xavier saved us. Let's go see the moon-like pack.”
Mercury burst into laughter. She was so happy as we hurried out of the packhouse and towards the torture ground.
We were in time as the soldiers were taking the chains off my people. I watched them for a moment, not even bothering to move closer because I didn't want to reveal my identity.
Suddenly, Frederick turned towards my side. It was as if he sensed I was watching him. I nodded slightly, and a smile grazed his lips.
“From today onwards, the moon-like pack is free to return to their abode. They are not slaves. They are free!” One of the soldiers announced the king's decree.
Everyone yelled in delight. The happiness on my people's faces was golden.
I couldn't help but smile as I watched them make joyful noises. It was palpably clear that they were overjoyed at the news.
“Mercury,” I called suddenly.
She looked at me, a wide smile plastered on her face. She was so happy.
“You are dismissed for the rest of today. You can use that opportunity to inform the elders that I will meet them tonight.”
Mercury nodded quickly and turned back to look at the people.
I regarded her for a moment before I moved away. I didn't want to disturb her because I had something on my mind already.
I made my way to the king's room.
“How is he?” Rick asked, just as I stepped inside.
“He will be fine,” the doctor assured. “But he should be very careful and not take more of the poison, or there might not be any changes.”
Rick nodded once and finally noticed me. “You are dismissed.”
The doctor bowed and walked out. He stopped briefly in front of me and bowed as well.
“Is he really OK?”
Rick nodded once, but he was looking at Xavier now. I regarded him for a moment and thought it over again—what I was about to say.
“I will take care of him.”
“What?”
“You heard me, Rick. Who else can take care of him better? I will monitor everything he eats and drinks. I will make sure he doesn't take more of the poison.”
Rick nodded slightly, finally giving up. “Alright, suit yourself.”
I walked nearer. “Tell me, how did you find the maid that poisoned the king?”
Rick turned to look at me fully. “Remember, you said I should imprison everyone in the kitchen.”
I turned to look at him as well and nodded once. I actually remember, but I've forgotten about it with the last events that had played.
“When I returned last night and couldn't find the antidote, I decided to seek out who could have poisoned the king. Perhaps I could get the antidote directly from the culprit. So, I spent the entire night torturing maids and eventually found the right one,” he explained.
That makes sense.
“And why is she yet to spill the milk about who sent her?”
He sighed. “I have no idea. My thought is that he must be someone Xavier knows. Well, the torture will resume tonight.”
I released an exasperated sigh. “I will replace some maids in the kitchen with people from our side. It's the best way to be certain that he won't be poisoned again since we are yet to find out who the main culprit is.”
Rick nodded several times. “That makes a lot of sense. When will that happen?”
“I will meet with the elders by the night since I still need to keep my identity.”
He nodded again. “Thank you.”
I glanced at Xavier for the last time before I stepped out. My nose twitched suddenly, and I realised how much of a shower I needed.
I need to bathe off the stress. Gosh, I don't believe everything almost went astray.
I soaked myself in the bathroom cubicle and closed my eyes. I was careful this time actually so I wouldn't drown.
“I'm not taking it anymore. And that's it!” A deep voice muttered. It sounded so angry. He turned away quickly, not allowing me to see his face.
“You don't have a choice, Lucas. I'm with Xavier now. I'm Xavier's mate. There is nothing you can do about it,” a soft feminine voice spoke.
Actually, it looked like I did.
“And me? I'm your mate. I'm your fated mate. Xavier is your chosen mate. There's a huge difference,” the masculine voice argued.
“Well, I love him!” That same feminine voice declared. It was as if I couldn't control what was coming out of my mouth.
It felt like it was me. And then, it felt like someone else had control of my body, like I was only there as a guest.
"No, you don't!” The voice hardened. “If you do, you won't sleep with those men, but I will show it to you, Gwen. That I own you. I fucking own everything that belongs to you, even your pussycat that I will fuck till I'm sick of it!” The voice swore, each word laced with anger and terror.
A gasp, and my eyelids fluttered open. My breath was coming in fast, and a bead of perspiration had broken out of my forehead even though I was still in the water.
I rushed out of the bathroom cubicle. I've never been so scared in my entire life. What I saw—it felt so real, like it was happening.
Would I say it's my excessive thoughts that's still bringing such images to me? This isn't the first time I will be having images as if I were replaying something that has happened before.
But what if it was real? The man referred to the person as Gwen. And Gwen referred to him as Lucas.
Maybe I'm going crazy, but it has to be something. I can't just be having memories that aren't mine. And I have never thought to this extent.
What if it was real, though? What if there is someone bearing Lucas? Well, none of the Alphas bear that name. But what if one of Alpha's sons does?
Xavier is my fated mate, which makes him Gwen's chosen mate. If one of the Alpha's sons is Lucas, then it will explain a lot of things.
That I'm seeing visions!
Happy new year guys!
