“Should I get more flowers for you?” Elixir asked suddenly, jerking me out of my thoughts.
I looked up and smiled. “I want more!” I confirmed for her.
She smiled from ears to ears. “I will get you more daisies since you used to like them!”
I scoffed. It wasn't as if she didn't know by now that I'm Autumn. But then she has to keep to plan because of how I'm behaving.
Elixirbowed slightly and walked away.
“What's happening with you and Elixir?”
I smiled. “I'm playing a game with her. We might need to intentionally say some things in front of her so she can report it. The Alpha is at the crossroads, and we need to leave this place as soon as possible,” I explained.
She nodded once. “That's right.”
“Your position is still higher. Whenever you want to talk to me about things that she shouldn't know, send her on an errand.”
Mercury smiled. “I love that.”
“Besides_” I dropped the watering can in my hand. “Tell me a reason why Gwen would like to water flowers. She doesn't look that cool to me.”
Mercury laughed. “She loved flowers so much. It cooled her down, just as you feel whenever you are baking.”
I groaned inwardly and turned slightly to look at the Alpha walking towards me.
There was a soft smile on his face as he advanced forward. For a moment, I didn't know what I was supposed to do, just as it had been when he hugged me the other time.
I hadn't expected it.
Xavier stopped in front of me, his height suddenly making me feel so small in front of him.
“Do you have some time to spare?”
I managed a nod because I knew my voice was going to fail me.
Before I could think, he took my hand, shocking me for the second time that day. Then he started to walk away, his hand going firm around mine and drawing unnecessary electric feelings.
We walked towards his room.
“We need to talk,” he muttered as we neared his room.
I nodded again. At this moment, I wasn't sure if my voice had returned.
Mercury was right behind us, but thankfully, Rick wasn't around.
But the moment we entered the room, my nose twitched. Rick was waiting in the room.
He turned to look at us.
Xavier didn't let go of my hand, even though I was expecting him to. I mean, we are inside now. No one can see us.
“It's just as I have planned it, Rick. There will be a search on the hunt festival.”
“A search?” I looked up at Xavier, lost.
Xavier nodded once. “I've decided we should bring them in instead of looking for more tangible reason to arrest them,” he explained.
“Will that be fine, though?”
“No!” Rick said quickly. “But we have no choice. We are at the crossroads. The Alpha wants you to leave as soon as possible.”
I swallowed harder.
“Well, we might need to set a trap while using Elixir. Autumn, you can discuss in front of her that I will be searching all the Alpha except Philip from the left side.”
I started to shake my head. “That will arose suspicious. Why don't you choose someone else with Philip? Like Augustine”
“Like Augustine?” Rick seemed a bit shocked. “I mean, he used to be a good friend of yours. Why will you suspect him?” Rick supplied.
Xavier hesitated, as if thinking about it. “Augustine then.”
“You suspect Augustine?”
“Well, everyone is a suspect now. Who would have thought that Elixir could be a spy?”
“But we already know it's Philip.”
“We don't have a proof yet. As long as I'm concerned, more people could in fact be involved in this. This is why they all have to bring their children to the hunt festival,” Xavier explained.
Rick released a sigh. “So, are you going to search Augustine?”
Xavier nodded once. When the search ends and he's innocent, I will talk to him about the whole thing,” he revealed.
Rick nodded now.
Xavier looked at me. “The hunt festival is tomorrow. Everything that will happen must happen today.”
I nodded once. “I will do that today, and well, send her on an errand so she would be able to go report it.”
Xavier nodded several times at my plan. “Nice then.”
At this point, he slowly let me go. Though I missed him immediately. My hand felt cold in the area where he had been holding all this while.
I bowed slightly nonetheless and stepped out. Rick walked out as well.
“Thank you,” he said suddenly.
If it wasn't for Rick, I wouldn't be in the Alpha’s room that morning. He came to me and told me he needed me to see the Alpha.
Though I had no idea why I had to do what I did. But I can see that the Alpha looked a bit better now. He must have been frustrated when the maid died.
“No problem then,” I muttered, and I started out of the environment, knowing fully well that waiting any more minutes would only affect Mercury.
We didn't talk to each other until we were back inside the room.
“When Elixir comes, there are some things I need to discuss with her. When I'm done, I will send her on an errand so we can discuss it fully about it.”
Mercury didn't argue. She merely nodded. “I understand.”
I know Elixir will be here anytime soon. And the hunt festival is tomorrow.
“You know what? I would like to change the colour of my hair.”
Mercury laughed. “Why? This fits you so well.”
“I want to be blonde.”
Mercury laughed again just as a soft knock sounded on the door. The door opened, and Elixir walked inside.
“My queen, I have brought some flowers for you. It's in the garden, and the maids are already creating a new space for them.”
I smiled. “Thank you, Elixir.”
“Oh, the Alpha took you away the other time,” Mercury started suddenly, sticking to plan. “What did he discuss with you?”
“Well,” I admired myself in the mirror in front of me. “The Alpha has some plans tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow is the hunt festival, right, Elixir?”
Elixir nodded quickly. “It is. Have you forgotten?”
Mercury smiled. “I have a lot I'm thinking about.”
“Like what?” I asked to keep the conversation going.
“Like my mate, for instance. Elixir doesn't even have a mate yet.”
“That's right, or do you?” I turned around to look at Elixir.
Elixir smiled. “Me?”
Mercury and I nodded once. “Have you found your mate?”
She shook her head briefly. “I don't think my mate is in this palace at all. Perhaps he's dead.”
We all burst out laughing.
“So, what is the Alpha planning?” Elixir asked.
Good. She's deeply invested now.
“He plans to search all the Alpha on the left wing except Philip and Augustine, of course.”
“Well, everyone knows that Augustine is his friend,” Mercury came in.
“And Philip?”
“He chooses to trust him. But then, why will he want to search the Alphas? Is something going on?” Elixir asked.
I regarded myself for another moment. “Do you think I can make my hair blonde? Or maybe green with envy?”
Mercury laughed. “There are lots of colours. Elixir will be able to get some for you.”
Elixir looked at Mercury with a shocked expression. “Me?”
“Who else? You are the youngest here.”
Elixir looked at Mercury for a moment, then back at me. “I will get some for you now.”
I smiled. “Thank you, Elixir! Get me three colours. I will decide on one after I see them.”
Elixir bowed slightly and stepped out.
Mission accomplished.
