I kicked my horse for it to go faster. My mind felt clouded, but I knew I had to see my parents very fast.
I just needed to talk to them. If things will go astray, they have to know. Thankfully, I'm not the only child they have.
They have to be prepared for whatever will happen. They have to be prepared for the worst. I have a bad feeling it's not going to be good.
I soon arrived at the family house.
One of my father's guards moved closer to me to secure the horse. I let the rein go and hurried inside the house.
“Rick!” A tiny voice called. It was Tina, my dear sister. She was just fifteen.
She hurried to embrace me.
“Where's father? And mother?”
Tina pulled back to look at me, with a cute pout on. “So, you aren't even happy to see me?”
I pushed a smile to my face. “Of course I am. I just need to speak with our parents. I came because of a very important issue. The King sends me.”
Tina nodded once and pointed at nowhere in particular. “They are in the garden. I will go and get them.”
I shook my head briefly. “Never mind. I will see them myself.”
I didn't want Tina to know all I wanted to tell them.
Tina nodded again and stepped aside, knowing it was a very important message. She doesn't joke with anything from Xavier.
I moved towards the backyard and then exited the house.
I truly saw them sitting on the bench in the garden.
It was my mother that saw me first. A wide smile spread across her face as she beheld me, but I had no time to reciprocate it; maybe I suddenly forgot how to smile.
“Father, mother,” I bowed slightly.
“Is something wrong?” Father asked.
I nodded once, released a ragged breath, and stared again, confused. I didn't know how to start. My parents have always been in support of Xavier.
Even when Xavier suddenly changed from who I used to know, my father was firmly behind him. He urged me never to leave his side. He told me those times were days he needed me most.
I knew he was right. Xavier did not sin. He was merely unlucky to have been fathered by such a callous man. In fact, it was only a miracle that Xavier didn't later become a copy of his father. That was his father's aim.
Xavier's father destroyed him.
“Is Xavier alright?” my mother asked, and her eyes widened with incoming shock.
“He was poisoned,” I confessed.
What!
“How did such a thing happen?”
When I was here the last time, I told them about the situations of things. My parents were the only outsiders that knew Gwen was missing. And when Autumn came, I let them know about it.
The first time we started looking for Gwen, Xavier came here and told them about it. So my father offered to release some of his secret men to look for her.
So, it wasn't as if I was going against Xavier's orders. Xavier respects and trusts my parents.
So, I told them about Autumn. I can still remember my father's distant look when I told them Xavier had to mark Autumn because of the Alphas.
“Father, I have no idea what I'm supposed to do,” I broke down. “Xavier is currently acting weird as well.”
Mother looked at father. “Paul, don't you think it's time to let them know? I believe they deserve to know the truth now.”
Father started to shake his head. “I don't think so. It's better left unsaid.”
I regarded them for a moment, with raised brows. “Father, what's happening?”
Father kept quiet.
I released a sigh. “Xavier is 30 years old. I'm 29. Is there really something about our lives that we shouldn't know? Besides, I just told you that he was poisoned. Tell us everything we need to do.”
“Perhaps you, Rick, but not Xavier.”
I stood up, a bit angry. “Are you saying I should keep things from Xavier?”
Even though I had something I'm keeping away from him, I have no thought of doing it again.
Father stood up as well. “It's just complicated.”
I reasoned it for a moment. Father rarely keeps things from me.
“Well, we deserve to know now. It can't get harder than this, can it?” I asked.
“Well, it can.” Mother muttered. “No, it will,” she corrected. She looked up at her father again. “We need to tell them all they have to know.”
Father sighed and looked away, a distant look on his face. “Stephen, Xavier's father received a prophecy one day,” he started.
I nodded once to show him I was listening.
“Someone would destroy the Oceans Howl Pack,” he revealed.
What!
I have never heard such a prophecy. But I didn't ask any questions because I didn't want to interrupt my father.
“So, Stephen thought if he made Xavier strong, he would be able to avoid it. It was also the reason why he massacred the witches.”
At that stage, I couldn't hold it in.
“Not at all. The witches were massacred for committing treason.”
Mother scoffed. “You have no idea how much we tried to keep all this in so that the other Alphas wouldn't hear about it? Stephen killed everyone that knew about this, except us, of course, and that was because of Xavier. He made a promise to him not to touch a hair on our head if he could sit up,” she explained.
This is all strange.
“So, what happened?” I was eager to know the rest.
My father released another sigh, as if the next words were heavy. Maybe it was. He looked worried.
“Stephen thought he had successfully avoided it, but he received another prophecy, one that was very clear to us. A witch, a lady, will be the one to kill Xavier, and well,” he looked at me. “Destroy Oceans Howl Pack.”
What!
I was shocked. For a moment, I was speechless and motionless. When I eventually got myself, I felt pain tug at my heart.
“Why? Why does Xavier deserve such a fate? Why should there be a lady to kill him?”
My heart skipped a bit at a corner, as I remember that the moon-like pack were the descendants of the witches, at least from their Luna's side.
My father frowned, and I saw a flicker of fear. “That's not all, Rick.”
My fist hardened as I anticipated the bad news.
“This witch is his mate.”
For no reason, I didn't find that shocking. Maybe because I had always thought Autumn was up to something.
But then, I didn't know she was the one the moon goddess had prepared to kill Xavier.
I frowned. “Autumn will not be able to kill Xavier. Xavier has the strength of thousands of Alphas. He's very powerful. He's in fact stronger than his father. His father had 7 Alphas under him, but Xavier currently has eleven. It only shows how much strength the moon goddess has given him,” I explained to them.
Even at that, it looked like they were still scared. Or was there more that I didn't know?
I regarded my father for a moment. “Is something wrong?”
My father nodded once. “This witch is also the Silver wolf that the world has been waiting for.”
What?
