Xavier's wolf was stronger and faster.
Mind me, his name used to be on everyone's mouth. Some people used to say he was a reincarnation of past heroes. His father used to be very strong too, but not as strong as Xavier.
If Xavier and his father fight, Xavier would obviously win.
It was like the creator took an extra day specifically to make him.
The irony of life, though. She gave him a strong wolf but then made a silver wolf that would only be able to kill him.
Within a twinkle of an eye, corpses were lying on the floor. Some of the wolves couldn't shift back before death, or Xavier took his course.
He jumped on one of the black wolves, and cries of pain erupted.
Two werewolves regarded the scene for a moment. I had no idea if they knew who Xavier was. But then, that was the easiest thing.
Xavier was easy to know!
Xavier slammed the wolf hard against the trees and looked at me again. His black eyes rummed around me for a moment, then he jumped up so high.
I thought he was coming to my side, but he simply was going after the werewolves that were running away.
Yes! They must not escape.
In the meantime, I should check if there are any survivors.
Then I remember the girl who hadn't shifted the other time. She should be around here somewhere, if she has not made a run for it.
No werewolves have ever survived Xavier's attack, actually. Who will?
A laugh erupted in my throat. They thought they could kill me. They didn't expect to see Xavier at this moment. I didn't expect it to. I just wonder why he was always showing up whenever I was in danger.
A soft grunt suddenly reached my ears. I sobbed up and listened. It was coming from somewhere around me.
I traced the sound until I could see the lady from afar, trying to stand. I hurried closer.
She looked up at me. “How?” Her voice shook with tremor.
“How what? How did you know me?”
She winced and started to laugh. “You must be kidding me. Why won't we?”
“How!” I yelled at her, desperate to know the truth.
She sobbed up. “So, you are a witch? But how could you do that?” I could hear the surprise in her voice.
She must be referring to my power. They knew I'm one of the moon-like packs and that I'm Autumn, but they didn't know I'm the next powerful witch ever known.
But if they know I'm Autumn. Then that means they have the real Gwen.
“Where's Gwen?”
“Yes! Where's Gwen?” A rich voice chimed in from behind me.
I didn't need to turn before I knew it was Xavier.
The lady looked at Xavier and suddenly started to laugh.
This simply angered Xavier, and he reached to grab her by the throat. “You talk now or I will make life miserable for you!” He threatened.
She sobbed up. "You_," she stopped and coughed out blood.
My eyes widened with shock.
“The witch poison,” Xavier muttered.
The lady smiled. “You will always be a step behind,” she forced out while coughing out blood.
Xavier had to step back. And then we both watch the lady give up the ghost.
This fight seemed to be getting harder.
I looked at Xavier.
“How did you find me?”
Xavier turned to me. “Are you hurt anywhere?” His eyes widened slightly as he asked the question, but he didn't wait for an answer and simply went ahead, checking every obvious place on my body.
Heat took over me immediately at the contact with his skin.
“I'm fine,” I responded, shocked at how caring he suddenly was.
He was in a shirt now and a short pant.
“How did you find me? How did you even know I was in danger?” I was amused.
He sighed and looked away. “Instead of hurting, I had to turn in this direction, hoping I would see you before anything bad happened. I would have been damned if I had come a minute late,” he confessed.
“You didn't hunt?” I was shocked. “It's almost time,” I said with urgency in my voice.
He made a side smile. “You think I don't have a plan? Rick has prepared some for me.”
Unexpectedly, I smiled.
“Besides, this was more important. But then, what does this lady mean by being a step behind?”
I released a ragged sigh. “She knows I'm not Gwen.”
Xavier turned towards me, shocked. “What?”
I nodded once. “She called me Autumn. She even knew I had no wolf. So, she knew I wasn't pregnant,” I explained.
Xavier released an exasperated sigh. “Come, let's get out of here,” he said, and stretched out his hand.
I knew it was a bad idea to take it, but then, what else can we do?
I took it and felt electric shock course through me.
Xavier smiled, and then he was leading me through the woods.
I cleared my throat momentarily when I felt the air around us tighten. I might need to involve us in a conversation to keep my mind from straying.
“And the plan? The one we had for this hunt?”
“It will start soon. Rick will accompany you to the field before he leaves. I won't be able to follow you, as I should still be on the Alpha hunting ground at this moment,” he chuckled.
“You could add it to your skill. No one will know you are lying, though.”
“What?”
“Well, that you can be in two places at the same time.”
He laughed, showing a dimple by his right side. Something I had never noticed, or maybe it was because he hasn't always been laughing around me. I can in fact count the times he has smiled.
“It won't be bad, though. But you will have to back it up.”
“Wait, what? Me? Why?”
He shrugged slightly. “I'm supposed to be hunting now, but I'm here, holding your hand. It must mean you also know about it.”
I laughed now. “Oh, now I get it.”
“And there will be a time where I will be having meetings with the Alpha's, and you will have to fake your release.”
I blushed. “My what?”
He looked at me, a silly smile suddenly on his face. “Well, it's easy. I want to have a meeting, but I still want to be with my mate.”
I blushed even harder. “Gosh! Why will you even paint such a scenario?”
Xavier laughed again. “You might have to moan out loud!”
My cheeks burnt with embarrassment as he said this. This was a bad idea. I shouldn't have started that conversation.
He sobbed up suddenly, and I realised we were standing so close to each other now, perhaps too close for comfort. I had no idea how we got into this position.
We were just a hairsbreadth away.
And when Xavier tilted his head in, I knew he was going to kiss me.
