Autumn
I walked back to my room, as different thoughts went through my mind in some sort of crazy confusion.
Did Augustine release Gwen because he was certain that I was going to die? No, that can't be right though unless he was sure that Gwen was going to die as well.
Why would he put us into so much trouble only to release her now? It doesn't even look like he was trying to punish Xavier. This was why he had to come up with something so stupid and to also stop Xavier from carrying out his plan of searching him and Philip.
He was lucky all this while that Xavier doesn't even suspect him. Well, he was supposed to be Xavier's friend.
No wonder we were unable to reach anywhere. It was because we were backing up the wrong tree. That also means Elixir works for him.
All this makes sense now. Augustine must have heard about the prophecy, but he wouldn't have known I was Xavier's mate.
No, he had an idea. The prophecy was straightforward. Xavier's mate, a witch, would kill him. It was easier to guess it would definitely be from the moon-like pack. Even if it wasn't me, getting the moon-like pack angry at Xavier was going to do the whole job.
The door opened suddenly, jerking me out of my thoughts.
“Autumn!” Mercury called, relieved. “I thought you were dead! When I heard the news, I felt sick to my stomach.”
I smiled. “I'm fine,” I assured.
“But then why is the announcement insisting you are dead?”
I sighed. “There's more pressing matter, Mercury,” I said, ignoring her question.
“What is it? Is it about Elixir?” Mercury asked, raised a brow, and waited.
“Not really,” I shook my head briefly. “Gwen is back.”
“What?” Mercury exclaimed. Her eyes widened with shock. “When? How?”
“I saw her in the hallway on my way to my room. Xavier took her away,” I explained.
Mercury looked away. "Then we are going to leave very soon, right? But you are yet to shift.”
Then, I remember what Riley told me about my powers. The silver wolf came with a power? That was unbelievable.
No wonder the silver wolf was always very powerful.
“Well, I have good news about that,” I revealed with a smile.
Mercury looked at me for a moment. Her eyes suddenly widened with shock. “Can you shift now?”
I shook my head briefly. “Not that, but_” I reached for her hand and waited, but nothing happened.
Mercury regarded me for a moment. “Are you alright?”
I released an exasperated sigh. “I wonder why this isn't working though,” I complained.
“Concentrate, Autumn,” Riley told me.
I cleared my throat meaningfully and tried again.
Suddenly, several images flashed across my eyes.
It felt like I was suddenly in the forest, and I was looking at Mercury. She took a step forward and stopped.
“I need to enter her hunting ground. I have a bad feeling about this. What if something bad happens to her?” she debated, worriedly.
Suddenly, the vision was gone, and I was back in the room again, standing in front of Mercury, still holding her hand.
I adjusted backward slowly, as my breathing came very fast. It felt like I had run a marathon.
But then, I couldn't help the wide smile on my face.
I can't believe I did it.
Mercury still had this confused look on her face. “Autumn, is everything alright?”
I nodded once, then twice.
“Mercury, I have."
“Your Majesty!” a voice yelled from outside suddenly, interrupting me of the words I was about to say. “I'm from the King. He wants me to escort you,” the voice explained.
Mercury and I stepped out. Escort me where?
Brown bowed slightly. “The King is meeting with the elders. He wants me to escort you,” he explained further.
I nodded once. “No problem then.”
We set out.
“Have you seen Elixir?”
Mercury shook her head briefly. “Nowhere.”
Maybe Elixir thought I'm dead too.
We walked for a moment until we came out to the festival grounds. Everywhere was crowded, and the Alphas were standing at one side.
I easily spotted Xavier because of his physique. He was the tallest and almost looked like a god.
He looked over at me. Our gaze held and locked for a moment, only for the frown on his face to deepen.
“My queen,” he announced and gestured towards me.
Every gaze turned towards me as I advanced towards Xavier.
Murmurs ensued.
“Why then did they say she was dead?”
“The queen looks so fine.”
“False alarm! Obviously, someone was trying to ruin the Hunt Festival.”
I looked at Augustine as I moved closer. His expression was unreadable. I must warn Xavier very fast, or Gwen might disappear on him again.
I stopped to stand beside Xavier.
“The Hunt festival will continue then!” Augustine announced. “Prepare for the feast!”
Everyone jubilated.
I turned to look at Xavier, but he was already walking away. There was this deep frown on his face.
I looked up at Augustine and caught him staring. I really need to tell Xavier what I know. So, I hurried after him.
He was fast though, and he was walking in fast strides. He was already inside his room when I got there.
I made an attempt to open the door, but it opened instead, and Rick stepped out.
“Autumn?”
“I need to talk to Xavier.”
He glanced back. “I'm sorry, but he's very busy now. Is something wrong?”
I nodded once. “It's about Augustine. Tell him it's very important. He should reach me as soon as possible.”
Rick nodded once.
I turned away without another word, especially because of Mercury.
A man was standing in front of my room when I reached. His stance suddenly looked familiar. When he turned to look at me, my eyes widened with shock.
“Dylan!”
He smiled. “I heard the news.”
My gaze searched around me quickly. “Come, let's go inside.”
We all walked inside. Mercury locked the door behind her.
“I thought something bad had happened to you. The whole pack were worried.”
I nodded once. “But I'm fine now. You can leave.”
Dylan shook his head briefly, a silly smile playing on his face. “That's not going to happen. You've been pushing it away for a while now, but not anymore.”
I released a sigh. “You do know that you are stubborn?”
Dylan chuckled. “Well, just accept it and let's move forward.”
I nodded once. “Well, Gwen is back.”
Dylan's eyes widened with shock. “What?” He looked at Mercury, a doubtful look taking over his face. “Is that true?”
Mercury nodded once. “Yes.”
Dylan swallowed hard on the information. “Have you shifted now?”
I shook my head briefly. “Not yet, but my wolf has the power to see the past.”
Mercury and Dylan looked at me at the same time.
“What?”
I smiled softly while nodding my head. “I still can't fully control it, but Riley is teaching me.”
“Who's Riley?” Mercury asked.
“Her wolf,” Dylan responded.
He still remembers.
I nodded once. “But well, I tried it on you the other time, Mercury.”
“What?”
“Yes. And I seriously want to see Elixir now. I need to try it on her.”
