“The bath has been made, my queen,” one of the maids announced suddenly, jerking me out of my thoughts.
I've been thinking of a lot of things, and I must say I'm also anxious. Xavier is yet to get back to me, which is very strange.
And now, I have no idea how Gwen is doing. For no reason, I found myself drawn to Gwen. Maybe it's because I finally got to meet her in person, and then I discovered she looked so much like me.
I really can't wait to hear how she's doing.
I stood up and dropped the towel before I walked inside the bath cubicle. I felt the water cool my body, then I remembered something.
“Get me Mercury immediately!”
The maid bowed slightly and stepped out.
How could I forget Beatrice in this situation? I should have remembered her earlier; maybe she would have been alive.
I can't believe I'm doing this. I hurried out of the bath cubicle and got dressed in a dress my hand could reach.
I've already sent Mercury and Dylan out to look for Elixir. I don't think the maid can find Mercury quickly. I will have to think of another way to get Beatrice.
The door opened suddenly, and one of the maids stepped inside. “Ma'am, the beta is here to see you.”
Oh, great! Better timing.
I hurried out of the room with my hair still damp. I didn't even care at this point. I just hoped I wasn't too late for Beatrice.
“Rick!” I called.
He turned to look at me. “Your majesty, I—”
I gripped him by his hand and started to lead him through the hallway.
“What are you doing, Au_?” He stopped almost immediately, and his gaze searched around us.
The maids must be looking at us now, but I didn't even care.
“Please, follow me,” I beseeched softly and started to drag him with me.
He followed me after some seconds.
We walked out of the hallway and stopped at the entrance of the forest that I remember Xavier led me out of.
“Tell me what we are doing here.”
“Actually, I was too occupied to tell you sooner that there's someone here you have to save. She is Beatrice. We were hunting together before we were attacked,” I explained.
Rick laughed. “What?” He looked at me. “You brought me out here to save someone?”
I nodded quickly. “Why else will I bring you out? Besides, she's supposed to be a member of your pack. Aren't you supposed to make sure they are all fine?”
He scoffed. “I'm supposed to trouble myself over someone that might be dead already?”
Seriously? I wasn't even expecting that. Rick and Xavier seem to think in the same way.
“How are you even sure about that?” I protested angrily. “You wouldn't know until you get there. Besides, she's supposed to be pregnant. If she's dead, doesn't she at least deserve to be buried by her loved ones?” I let out. “Besides, she died saving me,” I whispered, already feeling irritated. “You know what? I will get her out myself!” I concluded and started inside the forest without even waiting for Rick to reply.
I don't even need his help. I don't believe Rick is any different from Xavier. They don't even seem to care about their people. They will always do as they like.
But then, I know Rick hates me so much. Perhaps he would wish I enter the forest and not be able to come out.
“Do you even know where you are going?” A familiar voice asked from behind me suddenly, shocking me for a moment.
I turned back to look at Rick. I must say I was shocked because I didn't expect him to follow me.
“I thought you didn't want to risk yourself over someone whose life is uncertain.”
He smiled, unbelievably. This was actually the first time I would be seeing him smile.
“There's no harm in strolling, even in distress. Besides, I have something to tell you.”
My smile widened at this, and we started inside the forest.
“How is Gwen?” I was the first to ask, to break the silence that had ensued.
He stiffened at the question, and I sensed he might not want to talk about it. Besides, this will change a lot now. With Gwen, Xavier would be able to find out who had kidnapped Gwen.
So, I didn't need to see him. But then, I still want to see him. Besides, I haven't shifted. Can I seriously leave Xavier at this moment?
But then it wouldn't mean anything. Augustine will stop attacking me now that Gwen has returned.
But then, what if he intentionally released Gwen? What if there was more somewhere that I don't know about?
Now, I'm more worried.
I sighted a figure far from where we were. I still remember the colour of Beatrice's clothes. It was the same. Even in the darkness, my vision was exceptionally good.
“Over there!” I called, even as I saw that Rick didn't want to talk about Gwen. It would be weird to continue walking in silence.
We both rushed to the spot. Even as we neared it, I saw that it was truly Beatrice.
My heart skipped a beat when I realised she was still in the exact position that I left her. Was she dead?
I bent beside her and checked her breathing. Funnily enough, she was still breathing. Though it was faintly.
Happiness surged through me.
I looked up at Rick. “Please, help me. She's still breathing!”
Rick hurried closer and took Beatrice up in one scoop. He was strong as well but not as strong as Xavier.
Xavier doesn't have rivals, but then, that would change soon, wouldn't it? When my Riley finally emerges.
Rick didn't move. Instead, he looked at me. His expression was suddenly gloomy. Is something wrong?
“Gwen might not wake up,” he announced.
My eyes widened with shock. What!
