Shock kept me motionless and speechless for a moment.
What?
“Xavier is in pain currently. That's why he's not meeting with you, but he sent me to tell you that the Moon-like pack can leave any time they want. But then you should inform me when you plan to leave so I can let him know,” he explained.
So, this was Augustine's plan?
“Did you tell him that I would like to see him?”
Rick sighed and looked away. “He's not willing to see anyone at this moment. You can tell me everything, and I will pass it across to him.”
I released a sigh. “You don't understand, Rick. I have to tell the King what I know, and it has to be privately,” I explained.
None of the details must be missed, and to do this, I need to meet with Xavier directly.
Rick shook his head briefly and looked away. “It can't be helped then.”
I scoffed. Xavier did tell me he was going to give me his head whenever he found Gwen. Now that Gwen was back, he wants to go back on his words. It's why he's unwilling to meet me in private places.
Maybe I have that in mind too, but then, I just wanted to let him know who his enemy was.
If I kill Xavier now, Augustine will definitely rule the Ocean Howl Pack. He would kill Rick and all of Xavier's allies. Then, maybe he would come at us now.
The walk back to the palace was done in silence; each was thinking about one thing or the other. I was suddenly too preoccupied to even suggest something.
But at this point, I have to decide fast when my people are leaving the Ocean Howl Pack.
We entered the palace and started towards the physician's room. We got there in no time, thanks to Rick’s swiftness.
“Place her here,” the physician said.
Rick responded, and the physician got into work.
Rick then walked back to me. Something tells me he has something to say.
“When do you plan on leaving?”
I thought about it quickly. The earlier we leave, actually, the better. It's not like this war will end anytime soon.
“In two days,” I told him eventually.
Rick nodded once. “I will inform the Alpha then.”
I might need to talk to the elders tonight. We will plan the rest.
“She's stabilised now,” the physician was saying as he moved closer to me. Then, his eyes widened with shock. “My queen?”
Rick hit his head slightly, as if to punish himself. I didn't understand at first until later. The physician must have attended to Gwen. Now that he's seeing me, he's confused.
“I thought_”
“She's not the queen, Albert,” Rick said quickly. “She just looks like her.”
Albert was, however, still shocked. He continued to look at me as if trying to compare me with Gwen in his mind.
“Albert, just forget it. You will get to know about it later.”
Albert nodded quickly, as if forcing himself to believe reality.
“So, tell me. How is the girl?”
Albert released a sigh. “She was poisoned.”
I nodded quickly. “That's right, actually. But is she going to be alright?”
Albert nodded once. “She already seemed to be healing, which was weird. I saw some healing substance in her blood. So, it kept her alive till now. It would aid the effectiveness of the antidote. If not, she wasn't supposed to make it,” he explained.
I released a sigh of relief. I was so happy about the news. I moved towards Beatrice to see how she was doing.
“But she hasn't moved at all.”
“She will, soon,” Albert assured. “When the antidote spread to the other part of her body.”
I was so happy that I could at least save Beatrice. I might not forgive myself if she actually died. I mean, if it weren't me, she wouldn't even be in the forest at that time.
Augustine intentionally created a space for the pregnant women so he could get to me.
And she wouldn't be in danger.
“Can her blood be used for the queen?” Rick asked softly, but I heard.
When I turned to look at them, I saw that they had walked farther from us. But then, they had no idea.
My hearing is also sharp as well.
“I'm sorry, but it can't be used. It doesn't seem like her blood carries such a healing material. It looked like she ate or had contact with little of it. If she had it in whole, she wouldn't even need the antidote. If only we knew what she ate or how she had contact with it. I can confidently say that it is the only thing that can save the Queen,” Albert explained.
I released a sigh. Does it mean Gwen might never survive it?
For no reason, I couldn't stop seeing her face or how her expression shifted when she looked up at me.
I looked down at Beatrice. Perhaps when she wakes up, she will be able to tell them how she got the healing substance in her blood. Maybe it could save Gwen.
I slapped myself mentally. Why am I thinking about Gwen when I should be concerned about getting rid of Xavier? I was supposed to hate Gwen too. I mean, it was because of her that all these things had to happen to me.
I stood up suddenly and started out of the room. Rick and Albert suddenly stopped talking, but I didn't give a damn about them and walked out of the room instead.
I stopped slightly in front of the room as if to hear what they were going to say next.
But then, I had no idea why I was the one worrying. I don't care what becomes of the Luna. It's none of my business.
Besides, I've done my best so far.
I sighted Mercury from afar as I stepped out of the hallway. I waved at her, and she started towards me.
“Have you seen Elixir?”
Mercury shook her head briefly. “She's nowhere to be found. It was as if she disappeared from the surface of the earth. But Dylan is still looking for her,” she explained.
I nodded once.
“But that's not the current update, Autumn. Alpha Rowan is on his way here. I heard some soldiers discussing it.”
What?
“When are we leaving here? If Alpha Rowan is on his way here, then doesn't that mean something bad has happened to Gwen? And that means war.”
I nodded once. “You are right. It is not certain that Gwen will wake up, and then the Alpha has given us the permission to leave.”
Mercury watched me for a moment. “What have you decided?”
“We will leave in two days. We will move in the afternoon. Gather the elders and let them know we have something important to discuss tonight.”
Mercury bowed slightly, turned, and walked away.
I watched her for a moment until she was out of sight. The war was here already.
This was all Augustine wanted. And it was unavoidable.
