                    Autumn
I was confused for a moment. What? Xavier's death?
I looked up at him for a moment. As usual, his expression was unreadable. But then, I wanted to see if there was anything that could give him any information, something I could rely on.
“I don't understand.”
He released an exasperated sigh. “I promised you something, Autumn. I promised to give you my head on a platter.”
My eyes widened with shock. What!
“And I'm giving it to you. I'm surrendering to you, Autumn. Rowan is coming to the palace soon, and I have to address the Alphas in less than a few minutes. But by midnight, I will have nothing I'm doing; come and let's settle our scores.”
I was still gobsmacked. I stared at him for a moment. I couldn't believe what I was hearing from him.
In fact, I couldn't imagine it. Why would Xavier want me to kill him? I mean, I had always trusted he would do it. But now that it's coming from his mouth, it feels strange.
Was he trying to set a trap for me?
No, that doesn't even make sense. If he wanted to set a trap, he would have just arrested me, even at this moment.
“I don't understand,” I confessed.
His brows gathered amazingly. “What are you still confused about, Autumn? Were you not angry at me for neglecting you after promising to suffer for my sins?”
I swallowed harder on a dry throat. He got that right, actually. It just felt weird hearing it from his mouth now.
“Come by midnight, Autumn.”
“And the war?”
I slapped myself mentally the moment the words were out of my mouth. I had no idea why I was worried about the Ocean Howl Pack.
They've caused me so much pain, I shouldn't even pity them.
Xavier regarded me for a moment. “Rowan will stop the war after my death,” he said instead when I thought he was going to question me about the reason why I was even worrying for him.
And I was grateful for that because I had no idea what I was supposed to say if he asked me about it.
“Rowan and I have deep resentment. He will be angry at me for days, but seeing that I was gone, he would have no other choice,” he explained.
“And the culprit that kidnapped Gwen?”
He shrugged briefly. “Maybe the next Alpha won't be so weak like I am,” he said with a soft smile.
No, Xavier wasn't weak. Was this some kind of joke? It wasn't even in Xavier's nature to surrender like this. Why would he want me to kill him?
But then, wasn't that what I wanted?
“Come midnight and leave before Rick announces my death,” he muttered in a voice that showed he was done with the conversation. He turned around and walked out immediately.
I stared at nothing in particular. I was actually caught unaware.
Was it really over?
I mean, Gwen might never wake up. Alpha Rowan was on his way. There was no trick he could pull again.
Besides, he deserves everything that will happen to him. I shouldn't even worry about it.
A soft knock sounded on the door. The door opened, and Mercury walked inside.
“Autumn, I've arranged the meeting. All the elders are waiting for you already.”
I made a nod of the head. I could have told Xavier all I knew, but then, it doesn't look like he was interested any longer.
Besides, it's not in my position anymore. The moon-like pack is finally going to stand on its own. And we won't just be a pack; we will be a powerful one.
I don't need Xavier anymore. My wolf is getting stronger day by day. I'm sure it won't take long before I shift. Besides, the moment Xavier dies, Augustine won't come after me.
That will give me the time I needed to shift.
I entered the room, and all the elders stood up in respect. I took my seat, and they did as well.
“Mercury said you would like to speak with us,” Jude was the first to speak.
“Yes, we heard news that something bad had happened to you, which was why we sent Dylan over,” Ben explained.
I nodded once. “I'm fine, but the wait is over now,” I said and looked at their faces to read their expressions. “The moon-like pack will leave tomorrow morning,” I announced.
What!
“Really?”
“Have you shifted?”
I shook my head briefly. “Not yet?”
“What! That's dangerous!” Ben muttered.
“The last time we tried this, we nearly got killed!”
“Right, but the Alpha wouldn't decide without thinking it through,” Frederick said suddenly and looked at me. “What's it about?”
I released a sigh. “My wolf is stronger now. Even though I'm yet to shift, I can assure you that I will shift very soon.”
“Oh, are we supposed to rely on that?” Ben attacked. “We shouldn't make a risky move, or the moon-like pack might be wiped off from the surface of the earth!”
I rolled my eyes at their complaints. “Well, Xavier dies tonight,” I muttered, shocking everyone for a moment. “And we will leave tomorrow morning. Whoever isn't satisfied with this can stay behind!”
The elders went mute.
“I, Alpha Autumn, promise to take consequences for my action,” I assured.
Everyone finally nodded in agreement.
“Do you need help, or can you do it on your own?” June asked suddenly.
I looked at her. “I will do it. I promised already.”
June nodded once. “We will get everyone ready then. We will leave when we receive information.”
“Good, Mercury will communicate with you,” I assured and stood. “This meeting will continue when we finally get back to our pack house.”
The elders turned to each other, a satisfied grin on their faces.
Everyone is happy. It has been a while, and the Moon-like Pack was almost over. But then, we are coming back soon.
I turned to leave, but Dylan was suddenly standing by the door.
“Alpha, I've found her,” he announced.
Gladness filled my heart. “Where is she?”
The elders are yet to know that my wolf has power. And they wouldn't know until I've finally shifted. It would be a check on their powers. I won't be like Xavier, who kept a traitor as a friend.
I will check my elders and eliminate anyone that will come as a threat to me.
“In front of your room, with the rest of the maids.”
I hurried out of the house and headed towards my room.
Truthfully, there were a lot of maids standing in front of my room.
“Luna!” A tiny familiar voice yelled out, and Elixir hurried to kneel in front of me.
The plan was simple.
“I'm so sorry, Luna.” She looked up at me, and her face was not only red but swollen up. It looked like she had been crying for a while now.
I reached for her in order to help her up.
I concentrated, as Riley has taught me.
Suddenly, I zoomed off, and my eyes widened at the images I was looking at.
