Autumn
My heart was racing suddenly as I ran through the forest. Actually, it was Elixir that was running.
"Master Lucas, it's all done," she told a tall man who was wearing a golden bracelet.
I've seen that bracelet before. And I've seriously heard that name before.
"She must die tonight," that thick, yet familiar voice muttered.
But then, I couldn't see his face. It was as if I was limited to some visions.
Suddenly, I found myself in that familiar dark room. Then, I was on the bed as well, only to realise I was on both sides.
It felt like I was the one tied to the bed, and I was also the one watching myself.
And that reminds me, I've seen this place before as well.
"Elixir! You betrayed me!" I cried.
Then
The images ran so fast that my body started to shudder.
"You will never be my mate. Xavier is and will be, always," I was telling that same tall man with a bracelet, or was it Gwen?
It's all so confusing now, even though I don't remember living in this place. If it's not me, then it's definitely Gwen, but why does it feel like me?
"Gwen!" A loud voice called out suddenly, and my body shuddered the more. I was shaking now, so violently now that I think I might be having a convulsion.
Suddenly, I was back. I looked up at Elixir, then Dylan and Mercury. Elixir was standing with Dylan now, away from me.
I guess that was what broke the connection.
Mercury's eyes widened with shock as she regarded me for a moment. "Are you alright?"
I nodded quickly, even though I couldn't get past the majority of the visions I saw. It felt like me, but I knew better than that.
It wasn't me. That was Gwen! The visions I saw were all about Gwen and not me.
"I'm just not feeling well. I feel weak!" I lied.
Elixir started to sob afresh. "Luna, I'm so sorry."
This girl is a hypocrite. I felt like squeezing the life out of her at this moment.
"Elixir, don't cry; I will be fine," I assured. "But you and the rest of the maids are dismissed. I would like to sleep. Mercury should get me some drugs too."
Mercury nodded once and hurried away.
Dylan took a step closer, then remembered something and stepped back almost immediately.
Elixir regarded me for a moment. "Will you seriously be alright? Or should I stay with you?"
I shook my head briefly. "I will be fine," I reassured her.
Elixir nodded once and turned to the rest of the maids. "You are all dismissed!" She announced.
The maids bowed and stepped back. Then, Elixir bowed too and followed them.
I watched them for a moment before I walked inside the house.
I still couldn't stop the fast beating of my heart. The images I saw when I touched Elixir were not only scary but sad.
I couldn't fathom it. Did Gwen really go through such an ordeal?
The images were still confusing, though, and I couldn't really say this was exactly what had happened. But the images felt so real as if I was living those times.
And they were so scary. I can't believe Gwen went through that torture.
And Elixir was right. She used to be very close to Gwen. Gwen seemed shocked to see that Elixir was actually the one that betrayed her.
But then, I didn't see Augustine in any of the images.
Could Augustine be Lucas?
Not so. The man's stance was defined. He looked younger. So, it was definitely someone else.
But then, that was even more confusing. Augustine is the betrayal. Elixir is supposed to be working for him. Why am I seeing someone else?
Something was definitely wrong somewhere.
And unknowingly, I seemed invested.
I darted at the wall clock. It was just a few minutes after ten. I still have two hours before Xavier would die.
There was no harm in following something of interest to me.
The door opened suddenly, and Mercury and Dylan walked inside.
I stood up quickly.
Mercury was carrying a tray of medicine.
"Are you truly alright?" Dylan asked.
The both of them looked so worried.
I smiled faintly. "I'm fine. I just had to lie the other time," I confessed.
Mercury released a sigh of relief. "You made me worried," she whined.
"But did it work?" Dylan asked.
I nodded once. "I saw some things, and I'm interested in knowing more."
"What did you see?"
"Elixir has someone she works for, and that person isn't Augustine."
"What!" Mercury exclaimed softly.
I nodded once. "Elixir is here to check how I'm doing, and now that she has seen me. She would want to report to her master now. We are going to follow her," I decided.
Dylan nodded once. "Let's do that. Besides, we currently don't have anything to do."
I smiled at him. This was one of the things I loved about Dylan. He always supports me and does not always try to change my mind.
We spent almost thirty minutes standing at a secured place, away from the maid's quarters, but certain that we were going to see Elixir if at all she walked out.
Mercury sighed, I think for the umpteenth time that night. "Are you sure Elixir will go somewhere tonight?"
She should.
"She will. I saw her making appointments with a guy named Lucas, I revealed.
Mercury looked at me. "What does he look at?"
I shook my head briefly. "I was unable to see his face, or maybe it was because I was skimming through the images. If you hadn't stopped me, it wouldn't have stopped."
I guess it's all because I haven't fully learnt how to control it.
"Hey!" Dylan called suddenly. "She just walked out!"
We looked ahead and saw Elixir look around her to be certain there was no one around before she started to walk away.
We followed her quickly.
We soon walked out of the palace through the garden, and we found ourselves walking deeper into the forest.
Suddenly, Elixir stopped walking and looked back. We hid quickly.
It was as if she was already getting suspicious.
Then she continued.
Where was she going anyway?
"This is the way to Alpha Augustine territory," Mercury observed.
Then that means there's another master besides Augustine. That could be Lucas.
Suddenly, my nose twitched.
I stopped walking almost immediately.
Dylan and Mercury turned to me.
"Is something wrong?" It was Dylan that asked.
I felt a sense of déjà vu almost instantly. I needed no one to tell me before I knew we weren't alone anymore in this forest.
"Are you alright?" Mercury asked as well.
"We are surrounded," I muttered, with fear.
Just then, several wolves jumped out from behind the trees.
There were many; there should be almost thirty by mere looking.
"Oh shit!" Dylan cursed as he stood in front of me in a defensive position.
Mercury took her position as well.
My heart skipped a beat as I looked at the scene in front of me. We were too small. The wolves would easily take over us.
But how can this be? We were very careful. Elixir wouldn't have noticed us. And who are these?
A deep voice laughed suddenly, pulling me out of my thoughts.
The wolves suddenly paced away, and a man walked out. He was tall, and he looked very familiar.
Suddenly, realization struck so hard.
My eyes widened with shock as I finally realized it. Lucas!
The man that saved me in the forest. The one that saved me twice? The one that saved me the day I went on a hunt for the antidote.
Don't tell me! No! He can't be the Lucas? No way!
My heart was beating very fast now, and I could feel beads of perspiration rush down my face.
"Autumn," he called softly, as he moved even nearer to me, a silly smirk on his face.
Elixir stepped in beside him.
But I was still sceptical about a lot of things.
"You are Lucas?"
Mercury glanced back at me. "It's the man that rescued us the other time."
I nodded once. "He was. I've met him before that day.
So, he has been tailing me. He has been around me all this while, and I didn't even know.
"Elixir, you bastard!" Mercury cursed angrily.
Elixir laughed. "You thought I didn't know? That you guys were tailing me? It was an opportunity anyway. It was a nice way to eliminate you once and for once."
Lucas nodded once and patted Elixir slightly at the back before he turned towards me again.
"Good job, Elixir. Autumn is always closer to the truth, yet so far," Lucas laughed again as he moved even nearer, making me see the bracelet on his hand.
Everything clicked instantly. Lucas was Gwen's fated mate, but she chose Xavier over him. This got him so angry, and he decided to either have her or prevent Xavier from having her. The first dream I had was about him; it was about how Lucas was raping Gwen. He wanted to own her.
I can't believe this! It doesn't even make sense. Then, what about Augustine's involvement?
"But then, the search is over. It's time to clear the mess," Lucas muttered suddenly, and I looked at him again.
My heart beat accelerated. I can't believe I walked into Lucas' trap, and I didn't even enter alone; I dragged my friends with me.
"Who are you?" I asked, even though I was still scared. "Do you know Augustine?"
Lucas hesitated briefly, a wry smile on his face. "Augustine is my father!"
Were you expecting that?
