“Your wife?” Doctor Winona repeated Theo’s words. “Alpha Theo? Oh, I’m sorry for -” Winona stuttered. Her face flushed, and she pushed a strand of her hair behind her ear, obviously trying to charm Theo. “I - I did not know you have re-married.”
Before Theo could reply, one of the resident doctors on training sniffed the hell out of him. She murmured, “Why does Alpha Theo smell like Doctor Weneth?”
“What?” Doctor Winona asked, bemused.
“Doctor Weneth, you do smell like alpha Theo,” this time the sonographer said.
“But why?” another resident asked.
“Why wouldn’t my wife smell like me? We are fated mates and have marked each other,” Theo highlighted. His expression darkened as he frowned.
Following his words, everyone’s mouth fell on the floor, their eyes landing on the mark on Theo’s neck. Doctor Winona, for one, glared at Gwen. She gulped, repeating, “You are Alpha Theo’s wife? How can that be?”
Winona’s disdain was evident in her tone, which forced Theo to react, “I just said that, didn’t I? Gwen is my wife. Do you have a problem with that, Doctor?”
Eventually, Winona returned to her senses. She cleared her throat and replied, “Um. Gwen? I’m sorry, Alpha Theo. It’s just that Weneth and I are colleagues in this hospital. She has never mentioned having a husband.”
Theo glanced at Gwen and Juliet. He must have felt Gwen’s anger that he reacted to the doctor, saying, “It’s not my wife’s business to tell you everything about her personal life.”
Then, he moved closer to Gwen and held her hand. He smiled at her and asked, “Did I miss the ultrasound, Sweetheart?”
“You arrived just in time,” Gwen answered, smiling back.
“Good,” Theo breathed in happily. He turned to Doctor Winona and expressed, “This is our second child, another alpha heir. So, I would like to make sure this pregnancy is healthy.”
“S-sure, Alpha Theo. Let’s begin.” Jealously flickered in Winona’s eyes. Gwen could tell she had a lot of questions in her mind as she began the procedure. Later on, Winona failed to hold back. She inquired, “I honestly thought Weneth’s son had no father - haha. Weneth, why were you keeping Alpha Theo a secret?”
A low growl rumbled in Theo’s chest. He curtly replied, “If you are that interested, then I’ll tell you. Gwen or Weneth, and I were married more than six years ago. It was a rough time for me because I had just freed my pack from Lucius Darwin. I made mistakes. Gwen was captured by rogues, but she survived. She chose to leave me because I failed her as a husband. We met again during her mission to treat King Arthur of Northern Alfar. She forgave me, and now we are back together. Does that answer your question?”
Murmurs behind Winona echoed in that small space. This time, they no longer toned down their voices.
“As it turns out, Doctor Weneth had really treated King Arthur.”
“Did that mean King Alexander sent her to Northern Alfar?”
“So Doctor Weneth is the same wife they spoke about?”
“Her son is Alpha Theo’s son? Which means Doctor Weneth is a luna?”
“What is the fuss about? So, my wife told you about King Alexander’s orders, and you didn’t believe her?” Theo asked.
“Oh, it’s not that, Alpha Theo,” Winona reasoned. “We were simply confused about why King Alexander wanted to send Doctor Weneth. It was to our understanding that the brothers have a disagreement.”
“Because blood is thicker than water,” Theo said curtly. “Of course, King Alexander would send the best doctor to treat his brother.”
“And why does it sound like you are looking down at my wife and son? From the beginning, Gwen is an alpha’s daughter. Being of high ranks is something she is accustomed to. Being my wife, she is the luna of Port Leon. Do you know the punishment for mocking an alpha and luna? Or do you want me to show you?” Theo threatened, his green eyes glowed in anger.
“Oh.” Doctor Winona frowned. She said, “We are sorry. Of course, we weren’t looking down at Doctor Weneth and Ian. How could we? She is our miracle doctor! We all look up to her. We were just surprised to learn how she is married to you, Alpha Theo. Gwen never said anything.”
“Everyone has the right to keep their lives private. Gwen, my wife, is not one to brag. Were you expecting Gwen to rub her lineage and every achievement in your face?” Theo growled.
“No, no.” Winona chuckled, but her laugh was combined with fear and bitterness. “Of course not. I’m quite impressed by how humble Doctor Weneth is.”
Gwen held the urge to roll her eyes. It surprised her how Theo’s words were much more convincing to Winona and her trollies. Perhaps it was never their intention to believe her.
“Well, if you are done questioning my wife, shall we begin? Or shall I bill you per second for accommodating this interview? Our time is precious, you see,” Theo said in a commanding tone. His voice resonated, and even Gwen felt chills down her spine.
The room fell silent. Blood clearly drained out of Winona’s face. She hurriedly said, “R-right away, Alpha Theo.”
Gwen noticed her mother’s self-satisfied expression as Doctor Winona continued the ultrasound. Through the mindlink, Juliet remarked, ‘Theo sure knows how to silence the jealous ones.’
Very soon, Gwen’s wombed flashed in the ultrasound screen, and immediately, tears trickled down her face. She said, “Oh, my goddess. The body is already starting to form.”
“Yes,” Doctor Winona acknowledged. “It looks like the baby is already a little over three weeks. Since the baby is of alpha blood, the pup’s development is twice faster than humans.”
“The pregnancy is very healthy, and Doctor Weneth is expected to deliver in less than six months!” Winona faked a smile and added, “Congratulations! Doctor Weneth, Alpha Theo. The Moon Goddess has blessed you with a second child!”
Theo’s stern face had immediately changed to that of a doting husband and father. He leaned over and kissed Gwen’s knuckles. He cupped her cheek, saying, “I’m so happy. I missed out on being Ian’s father. I’m glad I could do this all over again with me actively playing a father’s role.”
Gwen completely forgot the jealous eyes around her. Her attention was on Theo. Her eyes brimmed with tears as she caressed her mate’s face. She replied, “Well, My Love.” She purposely said that. “I’m going to take advantage of you. After all, you were not around when I cared for Ian as a baby.”
Thankfully, Theo was quick to understand her. He chuckled, unknowingly flaunting the gorgeous laugh lines on his face. He replied, “Take advantage of me as you wish, my luna. Shall we call the entire family to make this formal announcement?”
“We should!” Juliet announced.
Minutes later, Gwen was back in the room, having a conference call with the entire family. Ian and Jacob were at Gwen’s apartment from within Cada City. Their son wanted to be closer to Gwen, so Jacob and Caroline watched over the pup while at the nearby apartment.
Baron and George were still at the Lilac Pack, implementing the changes agreed upon with the kings. Despite being occupied, they also participated in the call.
The only one not present in the call was Catherine, and that was because Theo had yet to reveal to his mother about Gwen’s miracle cure.
“Well, tell us, what happened to Gwen?” George echoed.
“Mommy, are you okay? I miss you,” Ian sadly asked.
“Oh, don’t be sad, Honey,” Gwen said in front of her phone.
Theo sat beside Gwen and announced, “It’s actually good news, Ian.”
“Good news?” Jacob said behind Ian. “What is it?”
“Fuck, I think I know,” Baron muttered behind George.
Gwen and Theo looked at each other with a smile. After which, Theo announced, “Ian, you are going to be a brother!”
“Oh, my Goddess!” Caroline screamed.
On the screen, Ian gasped. The pup then shrieked for joy and was practically jumping around. They all became amused, but as everyone enjoyed the moment, George said, “I guess this means you are leaving us to be with Theo.”
Gwen’s happiness quickly gave way to a heavy ache in her chest. Her parents had already lost her for twenty-five years, and now, she was leaving them once more.
