                    ~ Theo ~
That very afternoon, following the news of Gwen’s pregnancy, King Alexander visited the hospital. He brought flowers and gifts in gold and a contract release to free Gwen from her employment at Cada General Hospital.
“I know that with another baby on the way, you will stay with Theo, so I asked the hospital to release you,” King Alexander said. “But all I ask is that you schedule a weekly or bi-weekly visit to Southern Alfar. Then, maybe Luna Juliet can also maintain a clinic within the Lilac Pack.”
“Of course, My King.” Gwen bowed her head, tears brimming in her eyes. She promised, “I would never abandon my patients. In fact, tomorrow, I am opening the clinic for an entire week to help those who have missed many days of their treatment. Then, they can opt to continue treatment with my mother or visit me in Northern Alfar.”
Alexander turned his gaze to Theo. He said, “Theo, take care of our miracle doctor, and congratulations on having another baby.”
“I shall, Your Highness,” Theo confirmed with a smile.
After the king’s visit, Gwen was discharged. They all exited the hospital room together, royal guards tailing behind them. Yet again, Theo witnessed the jealous eyes of some doctors. Coincidentally, he came across Doctor Winona. Her mouth hung open, clearly in disbelief that they were being escorted along with the southern king in the most grandiose way.
From the corner of Theo’s eyes, he saw other nurses whispering to each other, and he did not miss the shock and envy amongst the medical staff. He wondered how much Gwen endured being criticized because she was a single mother.
It wasn’t until they arrived at Gwen’s apartment that Theo finally questioned his mate about her life in Cada.
“I love you, baby!” Ian pecked on Gwen’s stomach before giving her a warm hug. “Goodnight, Mommy.”
“Goodnight, Honey. I love you,” Gwen said, kissing Ian on the cheek. “Daddy will put you to sleep.”
“No need! I’m a big boy. Daddy will look after my sibling now,” Ian declared with a wide grin. He waved goodbye and dashed out of their room, closing the door.
The couple laughed, but while Ian claimed to be independent, Theo still walked out to watch his son enter his room. He smiled at the hallway as Ian said at his bedroom door, “Goodnight, Daddy.”
“Goodnight, Ian. I love you. Sweet dreams,” Theo said while leaning against the door frame.
Theo then turned to Gwen. He locked the door behind him and declared as he climbed up the bed, “This is the start of a beautiful change.”
“Uhuh,” Gwen acknowledged while lying flat on the sheets, facing him.
“Did you always face unfair treatment because you raised Ian alone?” Theo asked.
“A few, yes, I was unmated with a child, Theo, but it was nothing that I could not handle.” Gwen reminded him.
Theo moved closer. He pecked her cheeks and lips before softly saying, “I’m sorry. I wish I was there for you.”
“That’s okay. We are over that. Leaving Port Leon was also my decision,” Gwen said. “But you know what? Ian was probably the most affected at school.”
Gwen smiled and suggested, “You could give him honor.”
Theo paused, and with a bemused look, he asked, “What do you mean?”
“Other kids teased him about not having a father. During his fight classes, it was dad, Jacob or Baron, and me who came with him,” Gwen explained. “One time, he threw a tantrum about it.”
Gwen and Theo had planned to stay in Southern Alfar for another week. Gwen had to attend to patients. Theo needed to finalize the documents for his family’s permanent move to Northern Alfar. Since he had time, he replied, “I’ll make it happen.”
The next few days, the couple busied themselves.
Gwen had reopened her clinic for the last time. Jacob, Juliet, and Caroline were her aides during every procedure. On the other hand, Theo mostly had one-on-one training with Ian at one of the city’s sports complexes.
Theo had listed his pup for a match at the same school where Ian used to have this training. It was a perfect opportunity to showcase Ian’s skills and, at the same time, be there for his pup as a father.
When the weekend came, the sparring tournament happened. The school gymnasium was filled with young pups and parents supporting them. Aside from Theo and Gwen, Caroline and Jacob turned up to cheer him on. Naturally, Baron, George, and Juliet were also present.
Ian was against five contenders. He won all four rounds, but he stood face to face with a pup four years older than him in the last fight. Nonetheless, Ian did not cower. He showed his dominance the same way his father taught him. He barked, “I’m going to win this fight!”
“Hiya!”
"Hiya!”
The older pup was confident and attacked Ian first, throwing punches and kicks. Ian blocked most of his rival’s advances, but when the older pup began picking up the pace, Ian fell on the matted floor.
Everyone gasped. Gwen’s claws elongated as she grabbed Theo’s hand. She said, “You said you taught him everything.”
A chuckle escaped Theo’s lips. He took his mate’s hand and assured her, “Relax. He is going to be fine.”
Ian was lying on the floor in a shell position. He was holding his legs together with his arms. Then, in a split second, he delivered a spring kick. Ian hit the older pup’s knee, making him groan in pain. If that was not enough, Ian rolled to his side, lifted his body with one leg, and delivered two other side kicks to his opponent’s stomach and chest!
Their son rolled over his shoulder and got back on his feet in the blink of an eye. At that point, Ian was in control.
“Hiya!”
“Hiya!”
His punches and kicks were precise and powerful. After two minutes, the older pup was out of breath, down on the floor, and raising his hands in surrender.
“And the winner is Ian Allard Erhart!” The event’s host declared.
Theo and Gwen’s family quickly applauded!
Claps and proud praises echoed in the air. When Ian was awarded his trophy, the host asked him, “Who will you dedicate this win to, young man? You did such a great job.”
Ian happily stared at his parents and said, “This is for my family! I owe everything to my grandparents, uncles, mom, and, of course, my dad!” He looked around and proudly declared, “My dad is Alpha Theo Erhart. He is the strongest alpha of Northern Alfar!”
“You seemed to have gotten your natural skills from your father,” the host remarked before encouraging another round of applause from the audience.
Picture-taking followed next. Ian also had the chance to meet his old classmates. He eagerly dragged Theo to each one, introducing him in various ways.
“Remember I said that I had a dad. He is finally not so busy!”
“This is my Daddy. He is an alpha. He is the best!”
“What did I tell you? I got my good looks from my daddy!”
Ian went on and on, never missing to boast Theo to all the kids he knew. It was amusing to Theo, but mainly, it warmed his heart. At the end of everything, Theo ended up hugging Ian. His chest felt heavy, a mix of emotions overwhelming him. He pecked Ian’s cheek and said, “Thank you, Son, for proudly introducing me. I promise I will never let you down.”
The next day, they all went to the Lilac Pack. It was time for Theo and his family to say goodbye.
