The night was still young, and the sun had just set, leaving a soft orange light over Port Leon's skies. The community grounds suddenly became silent as Theo Erhart officially proposed marriage.
Gwen's heart fluttered as a swirl of emotions took over her. Memories of their past suddenly flashed in her head.
Her first marriage to Theo was forced. She did not even know how to feel about him back then. They were enemies, and his people used to abhor her. However, being married to Theo for a year, she fell helplessly in love with him.
Gwen had never been proposed to or experienced a genuine marriage or wedding. So, seeing Theo down on one knee brought tears to her eyes, especially when he held out an heirloom engagement ring.
"Say yes, Gwen!" Caroline said with a smile.
"Alpha Theo is going to punish us if you don't," Rollin said from afar, granting a laugh from his colleagues.
Ian looked at her with gleaming eyes. He encouraged, "Say yes, Mommy!"
Gwen chuckled and carelessly wiped the tears in her eyes. She said, "Yes, Theo. Of course, I'll marry you again."
Theo quickly put the ring on Gwen's finger. After that, he embraced her tightly and spun her around. Soon, Theo rested her feet on the ground and kissed her passionately!
"Looks like a lot of howling will happen again tonight!" Brody, Theo's beta, teased, and laughter erupted around them.
Gwen thought it was the end of the gathering, but before she knew it, Theo carried Ian in his arms and grabbed her hand. He announced, "Since most of us have gathered today, it is the best time to welcome Gwen back to our pack and, of course, my son."
"Yes!"
"I agree!"
Voices of support rang out before Gwen finalized what was about to happen. Brody gave Theo a small knife. Theo cut his palm first before Gwen did the same to herself.
Thereafter, Gwen said the words she had once promised Theo, "I, Gweneth Allard, stand before you, Theo, my mate and my alpha. I offer you my blood, my strength, and my undying loyalty. From this moment forward, I pledge myself to you, to Port Leon, and to the sacred bond we shall share."
Theo and Gwen clasped their hands together. Soon after, Theo gave his vow, "I, Alpha Theo Erhart, by blood and by bond, welcome you into our fold. You are one of us from this day forth, in strength, spirit, and heart."
"Welcome to the pack, Gwen. Welcome to your new home," Theo declared with a smile before hugging Gwen tightly and, yet again, claiming her lips.
Like Gwen, Ian also had his initiation. He was happy to be part of Theo's pack. Naturally, the initiation ceremony would not be complete without Jacob.
Jacob swore his loyalty, and soon after, Theo smirked and declared, "I'm glad that you are now under my command, Jacob. I'm also glad that you, of all people, became Caroline's second-chance mate. Finally, I don't have to worry about you or my sister."
"You do realize this makes us brothers, right?" Jacob said while shaking Theo's hand. This time, it was Jacob's turn to smirk.
"Fuck," Theo cussed, his face unrecognizable as he formed varied expressions.
Over the next few days, Gwen and Theo went about their routines. Theo frequently traveled to the Ironwood Pack while Gwen focused on preparing to open a clinic at Port Leon Hospital.
On several occasions, Gwen had to visit Borealis to help with the aftermath of the poisons and viruses Hazel had circulated. Fortunately, they had an ample supply of the miracle cure, thanks to the blood extracted from Hazel before her death.
Caroline refused to let Gwen participate in the wedding preparations, allowing her only to help with the gown fitting and the wedding bands. Thus, she nurtured her growing belly and homeschooled Ian for the rest of Gwen's daily hours.
One evening, Theo returned home exhausted. Gwen helped him into his bath, and they cuddled to bed soon after. Theo kissed her cheek and belly, asking, "When will we know if the baby is a girl or a boy?"
"Hopefully, next week," Gwen said with a smile.
That evening, Gwen had prepared herself for some love-making. However, Theo was strangely not initiating to have sex. She asked, "Something wrong, Theo?"
Theo sucked in a deep breath and revealed, "We discovered that the Lunar Vitae Pharmaceuticals, Hazel and Madlock's company, were distributing products internationally, particularly in New Arcadia. It's an international company called ProVita Sciences."
"We have contacted ProVita Sciences, and they claim no knowledge of Hazel's crimes. They insisted on still selling the potions and other products that were sold to them by Lunar Vitae Pharmaceuticals because they had already been paid for. Technically, there is nothing wrong with the potions and drugs sold." Theo sighed in dismay and said, "Sadly, the king of New Arcadia is not interested in getting involved."
Gwen nodded. She had heard about the king of New Arcadia. He was selfish and known to have many mistresses. He made laws within his nation according to how they benefitted him, not necessarily his people.
"Do you think this international company is involved in Hazel's crimes of Bioterrorism?" Gwen asked Theo.
"We don't know, and sadly, we don't have the jurisdiction to investigate them, either," Theo muttered.
"But, you know, Theo, the same kinds of poisons and viruses have been spread across the nearby nations, not just Alfar. I've had three patients from New Arcadia too. Some from Lupine Falls and Dunswick," Gwen pointed out. "And Beta Ivor had, in fact, confirmed that some of Hazel's employees had traveled to these neighboring nations. Something has to be done. I feel sorry for those who were infected on purpose."
"And you, being the miracle doctor that you are, feel obligated to cure the entire world," Theo teased before sitting up and cupping her face.
"That's not a joke," Gwen groaned.
"Gwen, Sweetheart, I'm just telling you that not everything is within our control. We also deserve to live our lives, and we have our own family to protect," Theo reminded her. "But if it makes you feel better, we warned all the nations affected. Hopefully, they will look into it, and if they need help, both King Arthur and King Alexander will be willing to extend help."
"Don't think much about it, Gwen," Theo encouraged. He rolled on top of her, forcing her to lie flat on the sheets. He smirked and said, "For now, just focus on being mine, being Port Leon's luna, taking care of our baby, and getting ready to be Mrs. Erhart again."
Gwen chuckled as she wrapped her arms around Theo's neck. Her man quickly explored her body and discovered she was not wearing any underwear!
"Fuck. My mate is ready for me." A low growl left Theo's lips, and lust shone in his eyes. He plunged his finger into her core, and Gwen's arousal permeated the air. Theo teased, "If we do it often, what are the chances we will have twins?"
Gwen laughed her heart out. She asked, "No, it doesn't work that way. You know that?"
"Then, I guess we need to work harder after you give birth," Theo teased before sealing her lips with a kiss. He claimed Gwen twice that night, leading to a satisfying evening.
Before Gwen closed their eyes, though, Theo reminded her, "Tomorrow is Madison's hearing. Her parents will also be tried for being accomplices to Agatha's death. You don't have to come if you don't want to hear it -"
"I want to," Gwen answered before clenching her jaws. "I want to learn everything."
