“Yes, Elder Gallagher,” one of Port Leon’s former lab technicians, Jeff, confirmed. “Madison had threatened me and my family’s life. That was why I fled Port Leon. In that way, Alpha Theo and his men won’t be able to question me. I only returned after learning that Madison had been imprisoned.”
Jeff lowered his head, looking regretful as he shared, “It was Madison’s parents who wired me the payment to alter the paternity test more than six years ago. Madison was the one who gave me the instructions. Thus, the reason why Alpha Theo thought the child Luna Gwen was carrying was not his. I removed all traces of evidence.”
“Liar! Liar!” Madison screamed. “I don’t even know you!”
“May I remind you, Madison, that Jeff was compelled by Theo to tell the truth. How could Jeff be strong enough to fight my son’s alpha command?” Catherine interrupted. She sat amongst the elders who questioned the witnesses.
Gwen felt her chest tighten as more revelations came to light. Theo, who was seated beside her, felt her emotions. He grabbed her hand and mindlinked, ‘I’m sorry, Gwen. I don’t know how many times I will apologize, but I will do so until the pains of the past are erased. I love you.’
He hugged and pecked her forehead, quickly easing the pang in her heart. Gwen gulped and linked back, ‘Thank you, Theo. I love you too. Thank you for giving me justice this time.’
It had been an hour since the hearing began. Many had gathered within the pack’s judicial center, especially Madison’s friends. Caroline told Gwen that their group wanted validation for turning their backs on Madison.
As of yet, the pieces of evidence were overwhelming.
The first set of witnesses were Caroline, Raul, and the doctor who had inseminated Madison. The three confirmed that Madison planned to pin her potential pregnancy to Theo. Thankfully, though, the truth came to light, and she never fell pregnant.
It was also possible that she had, but she miscarried. After all, Madison had lost a significant amount of blood during her battle with Caroline and Gwen in the last attack on Port Leon.
“And now, Elders, Alpha Theo, we bring in more pieces of evidence to support Caroline’s testimony that it was also Madison and her family who had orchestrated Elder Agatha’s death,” Brody said.
Dunken later distributed copies of documents to the elders, and the same content was flashed onto a white screen before the crowd. Brody pointed to the same screen and identified, “The first evidence is the communication between Madison and her parents.”
Gwen remembered how Theo’s men had completely taken over Madison’s home. They confiscated all of their phones, including those of her parents and her aunt, Melissa Emry.
Madison’s laptop contained email communications. Everyone could read how her parents funded her plans in the same trail.
Madison’s father: [It’s time you become the luna, Madison. Take care of Agatha! She is the thorn in our rise to ranks!]
Madison’s mother: [The elders and the Erharts are foolish to listen to Agatha! Do what you must, Madison, and we will take over Port Leon soon.]
Madison’s father: [This is my contact information for Lunar Vitae Pharmaceuticals. He promised me a poison that cannot be detected. It is the best way to kill Agatha.]
The Emres had coincidentally purchased the poison from the same company as Hazel and Madlock’s.
“We tried to link Madison’s family to Hazel, but there was nothing,” Theo whispered beside Gwen. “It was simply a coincidence. However, it did not mean they were free from doing business with criminals.”
“In the next slide, you can see the proof of money transfer to Lunar Vitae Pharmaceuticals, coming from Mr. Emre, Madison’s parents,” Brody described. “Everyone knows the crimes of Lunar Vitae Pharmaceuticals, and therefore, doing business with them is also a felony!”
Next, two witnesses came forward. They were old friends of Madison and Caroline: Henry and Philip.
While under oath, Theo commanded them to speak of the truth. After which, they admitted their crimes.
Philip said, “I had always been in love with Madison. So when she asked me to help her kill the elder, I agreed.”
“How did you kill Agatha Sanger?” Brody asked through gritted teeth.
With guilt painted all over his face, Philip narrated, “Madison went to see Elder Agatha in the middle of the night, telling her it was an emergency. Madison said she had slipped the poison in Agatha’s drink as they both had tea.”
“Half an hour later, Agatha died. We felt her connection to the pack break, so we acted quickly and brought her to the woods,” Philip added. “We knew it was only a matter of time when the rest of the warriors search for her.”
Henry gave the same testimony. It made Gwen cry because she genuinely cared and loved Agatha.
Of course, to add to the pieces of evidence, eventually, Madison was forced to speak the truth. With Theo using his alpha command, she admitted her crimes. Her nose bled as Madison tried to defy Theo’s orders.
Madison fell to the ground and cried, “I did not mean to. I love you, Theo. I did it for you. Gwen doesn’t deserve you! Everyone said I would be a better luna!” She glared at the people around them, adding, “Did you all forget how you rejoiced at Agatha’s death? You are all equally guilty as me! You all should carry the burden of my punishment!”
“And we all regretted it. We will forever bear the pain of losing Agatha and not valuing her contribution to our pack,” Catherine spoke angrily. “But killing her is a different story. Madison, you gave us no chance to make it up to Agatha!”
Catherine turned to Gwen and said, “At the very least, we’re grateful we had the chance to make amends with Gwen and that my son was given his second chance.”
“We all regret it! We hate that we had sided with Madison in the past!” One of Madison’s friends said, and many others echoed.
“We all paid the price, and we saw it through the changes in our alpha. Thankfully, Theo is happy again and a better alpha with our luna back!” Dunken voiced his inner thoughts.
Next, Farkas told the pack members, “Agatha was important to our pack. She was a seer who could foresee the future! Her death means we will forever miss many opportunities to prevent future disasters.”
“We are thankful that Agatha brought Gwen to our pack. Luna Gwen’s importance was Agatha’s last wisdom. We may not have cherished her foresight in the past, but now that she had proven how her words were true, we must treasure her last insight, and that is our Luna Gwen and the future of our alpha heirs,” Elder Farkas added.
Gwen frowned. She had utterly forgotten Agatha’s prevision about her children. She frowned, recalling Agatha’s exact words: ‘A woman with purple eyes will unite our lands and give birth to powerful heirs who will lead the nation.’
Chills ran down Gwen’s spine as she thought about it. ‘What does it mean?’
In a way, Gwen agreed; she had helped unite their lands. Northern and Southern Alfar were already one, thanks to the reconciliation of the Hazma brothers, but how can her children lead the nation?
Unfortunately, Agatha was gone, and she could no longer add wisdom to her vision.
“Because of the crimes committed by Madison Emry, she is therefore sentenced to death. Her repeated offenses prove that she is beyond saving, and no amount of incarceration will erase her wrongs or change her character,” Theo declared at the end of the trial. “As for her parents, they will serve a lifetime of imprisonment while Melissa Emry will be locked up within Drad City’s penitentiary. As for Madison’s accomplices, they will all serve their time in prison.”
Theo released his alpha aura and cautioned, “Let Madison’s punishment serve as a warning. There is no forgiveness for taking the life of our own people and for scheming against your alpha and luna!”
“From this day forth, we should all work together as one pack! Loyalty to one another strengthens our bond, ensuring that no challenge can divide us, and every victory is shared as a testament to our unity,” Theo added.
Everything happened quickly. Madison was executed within the week, and all those involved were detained in either Port Leon’s prison or the capital. Theo gave the pack another week to move past Madison and her crimes before convening another meeting.
At the community grounds, Theo fully announced one afternoon, “It is with great pleasure that I inform everyone, that your luna and I will be getting married again next week! It will be the biggest celebration in Northern Alfar yet! Let us all prepare!”
“Hooray!”
“Congratulations!”
Cheers!”
