~ Baron ~
Months passed.
The night glowed over The Lilac Pack. The warriors were gathered before a bonfire as Baron instructed, “The Alpha, Luna, and I will be away for at least a week. So, remember your duties and responsibilities.” He smiled and announced, “My sister is giving birth anytime soon, and we don’t know if it’s another demanding pup like Ian or a spoiled princess.”
The warriors laughed. They recounted, “Well, Ian was a handful.”
“We’d be relieved if the next pup was a princess,” one female warrior remarked.
“I certainly hope Gwen’s next pup will inherit our eyes,” another one chimed in.
Just as they spoke, clouds hovered above their pack. Chills ran down Baron’s spine as he noticed the skies become angry.
“Is this the Moon Goddess?” one warrior asked.
From a distance, Baron’s parents came out of the warrior’s base to look at the sky. White lightning lit up the clouds with a faint touch of purple. Seeing this, Juliet said, “It’s a message from the Moon Goddess.”
It had been five years since the Moon Goddess sent a message. The last time was during the birth of another purple-eyed werewolf.
Suddenly, a bolt of white and purple lightning struck their bonfire!
The warriors around it sprawled to the ground, including Baron. Looking back, they saw a double-edged moonstone sword standing amidst the extinguished bonfire.
“It’s a moonstone weapon!”
“That means another one of us is born.”
“Isn’t that Janice’s weapon?”
“Well, when one dies, the moonstone weapon is returned to the pack for another to inherit.”
Baron watched as his parents approached the weapon. George said, “This means only one thing.”
In unison, George, Juliet, and Baron muttered, “Gwen has given birth.”
They left at dawn for Northern Alfar and went straight to Port Leon Hospital.
~ Gwen ~
Gwen had undergone labor for six hours. She was naturally exhausted, so she dozed off right after giving birth. When she woke up the next day, she saw her husband cradling their pup. Theo had a big smile, and Ian was right before them.
“Hey,” Gwen softly called. “Ian is not supposed to be allowed in the hospital.”
Theo chuckled and replied, “My hospital, my town, my rules. I say Ian gets to see his sibling.”
“Mommy, I’m a proud brother.” Ian kissed the newborn pup and said to his sibling, “I will love you and protect you with my life -”
“They are here,” Jacob walked in unannounced. He panted as he clarified, “Your parents are here, Gwen.”
“We are here to see our grandchild,” George declared when he and Juliet entered the room.
Gwen was supposed to give birth the next day—at least, that was the prediction—but she gave birth a day early. Hence, her parents arrived late.
Theo was sitting in a recliner chair. He stood up and gave the baby to Juliet. He said, “Here you go, our daughter and your granddaughter, Lilac Erhart.”
They all gasped. Juliet immediately wept. Her hands quivered as she accepted the pup. She caressed Lilac’s cute face and repeated, “Lilac. What a beautiful name.”
“Reminds me of Gwen as a baby,” George described. “Cute face with golden hair.”
Everyone crowded around Lilac. They watched as the little new pup yawned and momentarily opened her eyes. Another gasp escaped Juliet and George’s lips. George remarked, “She has purple eyes!”
Gwen’s parents looked at each other. Juliet announced, “Then, it only means one thing. The weapon is for her.”
“Weapon?” Gwen asked. After a second, she had an awakening, “Oh, weapon!”
Just in time, Baron walked in. He carried the double-edged sword that used to belong to Hazel.
“That’s the former queen’s moonstone sword,” Theo immediately noticed.
Juliet nodded and explained, “Yes. When one of us dies, the weapon returns to us to be inherited by another.”
“It’s not automatic?” Theo inquired.
While Ian took the other side of the bed to listen to the adults, George answered, “It’s paired to the next newly born purple-eyed werewolf, but we don’t risk giving infants their weapon. Normally, we train them to use it before it becomes fully part of them. Or at least, until they are old enough to handle a weapon.”
George entrusted the double-edged sword to Theo, saying, “Now, it’s your turn to protect this weapon, Alpha Theo, and teach your daughter how to use it.” He glanced at Gwen, adding, “You and Gwen.”
“Why don’t I have a weapon?” Ian asked, pouting his lips.
Everyone in the room laughed. George turned his attention to Ian and assured him, “You have your father’s strength, and you might even be stronger than Theo.”
“I think he will be,” Theo suggested.
“Well, you are right!” Ian raised his chin and proudly stated, “When I grow up, I will be the strongest alpha in Northern Alfar. I won’t need a weapon, just my fists, claws, fangs, and speed!”
Just then, the door to Gwen’s birthing suite opened. Caroline and Catherine arrived with Dunken, bringing baskets of food.
“Oh, George, Juliet! Perfect timing!” Catherine exclaimed. “let us have a family lunch here in Gwen’s room.”
Catherine and Gwen’s parents exchanged pleasantries before they all had a lovely meal together in that intimate room. As they ate, they chatted about what the future would hold.
Gwen could not help but beam, seeing her family discussing cordially with Theo’s mother and sister. Who would have thought that from being an unloved luna, it would come to this? Their families are united, and Theo’s mother and sister love their children.
“What are you thinking about?” Theo asked, sitting next to her in the hospital bed.
With a smile, Gwen answered, “I’m glad I came back here, regardless if it was by force. I’m so happy I gave us a second chance.”
Theo caressed her cheek. He leaned in and kissed her before hugging her tightly. He said, “I love you and our family. I will always cherish the chance you gave me.”
Dradhold Castle - Two months passed.
“Welcome, Lilac Erhart. May the Moon Goddess bless this child with health, wisdom, and courage.” King Arthur raised Lilac in front of the crowd. He said, “Today, I call upon the strength of our ancestors to guide this child. May the wolves of old watch over them and grant them the instincts of a true protector.”
Arthur lowered Lilac and turned his gaze to Theo and Gwen. “To the parents, I entrust the sacred duty of raising this child with love and pride, teaching them the ways of the pack, and nurturing their unique gifts.”
He raised Lilac once more and smiled as he stared at the cute pup. He said with gleaming eyes, “And to you, little one, may your howl someday echo in the night, strong and free, as a testament to the legacy you inherit today. Welcome to this life, to this family, and to the light of the Moon Goddess.”
A round of applause echoed in Dradhold Castle’s royal hall.
That day was Lilac’s New Moon Rite blessing. While Gwen and Theo had preferred to hold the ceremony in Port Leon, Arthur insisted on having it in Drad City. As a result, Gwen, Theo, and their families made their way to Dradhold Castle. Simultaneously, King Arthur used the occasion to convene a meeting with the leaders of the neighboring territories.
Following Lilac’s blessing, King Arthur handed Lilac to Catherine Erhart. He explained to Gwen and Theo, “I need to introduce you to the other werewolf kings. This gathering is not just about Lilac, but potentially, establishing an alliance with the nearby nations.”
Gwen and Theo understood. While reports of poisoning incidents have significantly reduced in Northern and Southern Alfar, they could not say the same for the other nations. Bioterrorism remained a threat internationally.
Before they knew it, Gwen and Theo stood before four rulers of other nations.
King Alexander was at the same table as the rulers of Lupine Falls and Dunswick. He said, “Alpha Theo, Luna Gwen, let me introduce the kings from our neighboring nations to you.”
Motioning to a bearded man with chocolate skin, King Alexander said, “This is King Orion Starf. He is the werewolf king of the country of Dunswick.”
Referring to an overweight white man with red hair, King Alexander introduced, “And this is King Valen Dusk. He leads both the humans and werewolves of Lupine Falls.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, King Orion and King Valen,” Gwen and Theo greeted politely.
“And of course, we have King Theron Night of New Arcadia,” King Alexander named.
Before greeting the king of New Arcadia, Gwen had a chance to study him carefully. To her surprise, the king of New Arcadia was young. He seemed to be in his late thirties. He had fair skin, and his neck and arms were covered in tattoos.
Gwen and Theo gave their regard to King Theron. Afterward, King Arthur called for his beta and said, “Well, now that everyone is here, shall we talk about the security matters of all our nations -”
“Alpha Theo, you have a beautiful wife,” King Theron suddenly said. A hint of malice shone in his eyes as he studied Gwen from head to toe. “How much for your wife?”
Gwen’s brows met, and Theo did the same. He held Gwen’s waist and clarified through gritted teeth, “Excuse me, Your Highness?”
