~ Theo ~
After announcing an attack, Theo helped take down the rogues that had entered the community grounds. He was about to hop on a car toward the east border when he saw Gwen running away with Doctor Marcus Hanson.
"Gwen." A growl left his lips. Theo could not fathom the anger that was boiling from within him. His hands clenched, and his fangs elongated. A big part of him wanted to bite off the doctor's head.
"Theo? What's keeping you?" Madison asked. She was about to enter the car with him.
Madison followed Theo's gaze. After seeing Gwen and the doctor, she suggested, "Didn't I say they have something special, Theo? I'm pretty sure that Marcus is the father of her baby. He should be punished too."
"We don't know that!" Theo barked, frightening Madison. He unwittingly growled as if about ready to shift but held back, declaring, "I'll deal with them later! The pack is more important! Let's go!"
Theo and his warriors drove as quickly as possible, asking the townspeople to clear the road due to the rogue raid. They had already made it half a kilometer away when his warriors from the eastern borders reported, 'Alpha, the rogues are retreating from the fight and are running in another direction.'
'Retreating?' Theo mindlinked back. "How? Where?"
'They appear to be going to the ports, Alpha,' a warrior responded.
His beta had taken the northern border, so Theo checked with him too, linking, 'Brody, what's your status? Have you reached the perimeter?'
"Yes, Alpha. When we arrived, the rogues were about to retreat, but we caught them and took them down. One is still on the loose, heading towards the port areas," Brody linked back.
Theo added it up, assuming, 'They must have a boat there.'
Referring to the other cars in the convoy with him, he commanded, "I need twenty warriors to follow me to the port! I think these rogues have a ship docked within our harbor!"
Theo and twenty of his warriors changed the direction of their pursuit. Instead of the east, they were headed west.
Port Leon was a small town, yet it was one of the most prosperous cities in the nation. The city and pack were named as such because they had the biggest port in Northern Alfar.
Due to the flourishing trade in Port Leon, Theo's Pack was often the subject of envy amongst other packs and rogues. So, invasions were not new to them.
This is why Port Leon boasted the strongest warriors in the country. After Lucius Darwin's year-long takeover of their pack, Theo intensified the training of his men and heightened security, particularly around the port. Thus, this aggression by mere rogues caught him off guard.
'Brody, there is an inside job involved here,' Theo mindlinked with his beta. 'It's impossible for rogues to get past our security this easy.'
'Agree, I will look deeper into it, Alpha,' Brody said. 'Northern border is secured. I'm coming to your location, Alpha.'
Suddenly, Theo sensed danger. His heart raced, and his stomach churned with anxiety. As he drove, he scanned the road but saw no enemies in sight.
Frowning, Theo reached out to his family, 'Mom? Where are you? Caroline? Are you safe?'
'I'm good, Theo,' his sister responded. 'I had assisted Brody. I'm staying behind to maintain the northern border.'
'What's going on with me?' Theo wondered. If his family was safe, why was he feeling that way? It couldn't be Madison either, as she was sitting right beside him in the passenger seat!
'Help! Can anyone help me? This is me, Gwen! I'm being kidnapped by rogues. I'm at the ports! Anyone!' A voice suddenly connected with the entire pack through mindlink, and finally, he understood where the uneasiness came from.
Of course! Because his bond with Gwen was not yet broken. In a way, they were connected; that was how he felt Gwen was in danger!
Even if their bond was not formalized by marking, he realized Gwen's heightened emotions reached out to his wolf!
Theo was about to respond to Gwen when he saw a rogue attacking a child in the middle of the road! He stepped on the brakes and immediately shifted the second he exited the car.
"How dare you attack an innocent child!" Theo growled. Standing on his fours was his tall and midnight black wolf. He flashed his fangs and declared, "I'll kill you!"
With his powerful jaws and swift movements, Theo quickly eliminated the rogue. At the same time, Madison guided the child to his parents.
They were about to return to the car and rush to the port again when more opponents appeared between the houses on the side of the road. However, knowing Gwen needed help, Theo told Madison, "I'll leave these rogues to you!"
"Wait!" Madison called, her eyes filled with irritation as she asked, "You are not going to help Gwen, are you?"
Theo stilled. He thought carefully and replied, "She needs to accept my rejection, Madison! Remember, we are still technically married!"
Of course, he left out the fact that he and Gwen were fated mates. No one knew except for his beta. Besides, how could Theo reveal that he was destined to be with Lucius' daughter? He could barely accept it himself, let alone his family!
Theo did not wait for any objection from Madison. Instead, Theo ran in his wolf form, ordering some of his men to follow his lead. Like him, his warriors were on foot to the port from that point onwards.
The moment Theo reached the port, he heard Gwen mindlinking him, 'Theo, please help me. I'm being taken by rogues.'
After getting Gwen's exact location, he rushed to the containers and found her quickly, his men running behind him.
When he spotted Gwen with a cloaked man on one of the ships' deck, he barked, "Stop! Let her go if you want to live!"
Unfortunately for Theo, the rogue group had other plans. Several rogues had turned up at the port; some stayed behind to fight while some boarded the vessel.
Instead of giving up Gwen, the rogues fought to keep her on the ship! Worse, the boat was about to embark. Thus, he and the warriors became gripped in the fight!
Howls and growls resonated in the docks as Theo and his warriors took down one rogue to another. The rogues were ruthless, but Theo and his people were more determined never to be captives again!
While his men were left with only scratches, the rogues were thrown into the water or killed on the spot.
When more of Theo's men arrived, he chased the moving gangway, the ship's access point. He managed to climb on top of the deck in his human form, hoping to save Gwen and still get his freedom from their bond, but what happened next was something he never expected.
The cloaked man suddenly stabbed Gwen!
Theo saw it with his own eyes, how the blade entered her chest. When it happened, he felt like he had also been impaled!
He stumbled in his steps, his hand clenching against his chest. It hurt! It fucking hurt so much that Theo forgot to breathe!
'Gwen,' he said in his head, his mouth rounding, still processing what had just happened.
"Gwen! No!" He screamed. "You fucking bastard!"
Shifting into his wolf form, Theo charged, seething. His heart sprinted at an incredible speed. His muscles tensed, and his body expanded.
Gwen was at the ship's bow. Theo was about twenty meters away when she linked with him. She said, 'Theo, I'm sorry for everything my father has done. I hope my death will be the end of all the hate living in your heart. Live, Theo, and be happy. I, Gwenneth Darwin, accept -'
Splash!
Sadly for Theo, he didn't reach her on time. He failed to save Gwen.
