                    ~ Gwen ~
“Ian!” Gwen cried. When she and Theo stood before their pup, whatever insect Ian had encountered had settled beneath his skin.
“Mommy, I couldn’t get it out! It was too fast, and no matter how I shook it off, it kept biting me,” Ian said while crying.
Gwen was terrified as Ian extended his hand to her. The insect was moving under his hand!
“Mommy, Daddy, it hurts,” Ian said. He gritted his teeth, clearly trying to bear the pain.
“Let’s try to push it out,” Theo suggested, and Gwen nodded.
They tried to force the insect out of Ian’s skin, but they could not get it out, no matter how they pushed it. While they were doing this, Ian grunted again, trying to hold back his tears.
“It’s moving, Mommy!” Ian wailed. “It’s so painful!”
They were hoping that the creature would be forced to move closer to the open wound which served as its entrance to Ian’s skin, but to their dismay, it only buried itself deeper into Ian’s flesh, so much that their son had pointed to his arm, saying, “It’s already here, Mommy, Daddy.”
“What the hell is that thing?” Jacob muttered.
Caroline called the doctors and other locals nearby and asked for their help. They were in Dunswick and unfamiliar with the creatures within the area. They earnestly hoped they could get answers from the locals. Unfortunately, they could not identify the same insect Ian had described.
“It’s gold. It’s smaller than a ladybug, but it looks like one,” Ian conveyed.
“We don’t have golden-colored insects here,” said one of the doctors. “Are you mistaken, young man?”
“Our insects are generally safe,” one local said. “It must be a stray.”
At that point, over twenty people had crowded around them, trying to figure out how to help Ian. Finally, Gwen suggested, “Ian, Honey, we don’t have a choice. We have to cut your arm open -”
“It’s no use!” A female voice rang behind them. “The more you pursue the golden critter, the deeper it will go into his flesh. If you try to take it out, soon it will eat your son’s heart!”
Everyone turned to the source of the voice. They quickly found a woman wearing a black cloak. She had white hair, and the same could be said with her eyes.
This woman was walking steadily in their direction, carefree.
“She is a witch!” The locals spoke. Witches are not allowed here!”
“Oh?” The woman reacted with a brow raised. “But you can’t stop me. Haha!”
“Are you responsible for this?” Theo asked angrily. “I should kill you!”
“You should be careful, Alpha Theo. What is inside your son is a twin Vorax Ari. Its older twin lives inside me,” she raised her hand and flaunted the moving insect beneath it. “Whatever you do unto me, your son will experience it twice as much.”
They all gasped at her claims, but Theo said, “Nonsense! I’m going to teach you a lesson!”
Before Theo could charge at the witch, the woman pulled out a knife and stabbed it against her right arm!
They were all shocked but more horrified because Ian suddenly screamed! When they turned to Ian, he had a more significant wound on his arm. Even without a blade on him, Ian was bleeding profoundly.
“Ian, no!” Gwen quickly put pressure on Ian’s arm. Jacob also acted fast. He searched for a bandage and a bottle of healing potion.
While they treated Ian, the witch said, “So, go ahead, try to take me, and I will hurt myself even more. I could easily kill myself and, in return, kill your son. Again, whatever harm happens to me, your son will experience double the pain!”
“Seize that witch!” One of King Orion’s guards ran after the unknown woman. The warrior dislocated the witch’s arm after a fight commenced, and just as that happened, Ian also broke his arm, but much worse.
“Ouch! Mommy! Daddy! Make it stop!” Ian cried.
No matter what they do, they could not help Ian. They wrapped up his arm and put it back in place, but from then on, it was clear that the woman’s words were valid.
“Haha!” Another ominous laugh escaped the witch’s lips. She said, “Can’t you see? Your son’s life is in my hands. I could starve myself to death, bite my tongue, and you wouldn’t be able to stop me!”
Just then, the witch screamed, and a white glow surrounded her! The warriors who were trying to hold her down suddenly screeched with her. They let go of her instantly; their earlier vigor seemed to have vanished.
The royal guards muttered as they fell to the ground:
“I feel weak.”
“I can’t breathe.”
Unexpectedly, the witch’s dislocated arm returned in place. She smiled and said, “I had to do that to get myself better.”
Gwen noticed that while the witch’s shoulder had healed, her face had sagged. Sadly, she did not have time to scrutinize the witch. With her pup in her arms, she yelled, “What do you want? And who the fuck are you?”
“What do I want?” The woman smiled sinisterly. “Simple, I want you, Gwen. You took Hazel from me; you must take her place! Come with me peacefully, and I will never hurt your child.”
They were all momentarily stunned by the witch’s revelation. It took almost a second before any of them reacted.
“No!” Theo shouted, but the witch, yet again, attempted to hurt herself. She grabbed a rock and raised it over her head.
“Go ahead! Defy me, and your son’s skull will break!” The witch declared.
They already knew the effects of this mysterious bug inside the witch and Ian, so there was no point in arguing. Gwen released Ian and said, “Stop! Stop! I’ll come with you!”
“No, Mommy, don’t!” Ian begged while holding Gwen’s hand.
Teary-eyed, Gwen turned to Ian, saying, “I have to, Honey. She will hurt you, and I can’t let that happen.”
“Everyone, except for Gwen, stay away from me! You have already seen me drain the energy out of Orion’s royal guards; I can do the same to all of you!” The witch remained to hold the rock above her head and added, “Now! Stay away from me!”
“Theo, please, back away,” Gwen pleaded.
“But Gwen.” Theo held his breath. His body was expanding in anger. “I can’t lose you again.”
Linking, Gwen responded to her mate, ‘Find me, Theo. You’ll figure it out. Find out about this creature first so that Ian will be safe.’
Gwen stepped back in the direction of the witch. She continued, ‘Be safe. Keep Ian safe. There are more than enough healing potions and monk fruit sweeteners left. You know what to do.’
“Faster!” The witch demanded. She pressed the rock against her head. It seemed like a mild force, but the effect on Ian was much worse.
“Ouch! Stop it!” Ian cried with his hand over his head. When Gwen and Theo turned to their pup, they saw Ian’s head had bled.
“Stop it now!” Theo demanded.
“Stop, please! I’m coming with you! I’m already here!” Gwen yelled. She closed the gap between her and the witch, trying to remove the rock on her head.
Gwen managed to grab the rock, but as a result, the witch wrapped her arms around her. She muttered words that were foreign to them, and before they knew it, the witch said, “Goodbye, Alpha Theo!”
The next thing Gwen knew, a white, spiraling light surrounded her and the witch. It was as though she was being sucked into something void.
Gwen wound up shrieking in fear! She seemed to be floating in the air for minutes with the unknown woman still holding her. Gwen was looping within the white void, making her feel nauseous. She tried to stay awake, but no matter what she did, her consciousness was slowly slipping away.
‘Theo,’ she thought. ‘Find me.’
