                    ~ Theo ~
The spiraling light was blinding. Theo tried to chase after Gwen, but everything happened so quickly. In the blink of an eye, Gwen was gone.
“No, how could this be? Gwen!” Theo called. He ran around like a madman, and Jacob did the same. King Orion’s men also helped in the search, spending the rest of the day looking around, but they found no traces of Gwen.
It would seem as though the witch had taken a portal in leaving the borders of Dunswick.
When Theo returned to find Ian, he saw his son sobbing in Caroline’s arms. His pup turned to him with weeping eyes, saying, “Daddy, where is Mommy? It’s my fault.”
After Ian ran into his arms, Theo hugged him tightly. He sucked in a deep breath and answered, “It’s not your fault, Ian. It’s ours. We failed to deal with the pending threat.”
‘It’s the witch Hazel was referring to.’ Theo mused. He shut his eyes and recounted their attempts to search for Victoria Ashford, the same witch Hazel named as her aid.
As far as Theo knew, the Hazma kings thought that Victoria Ashford had died. This same person had presented herself as Hazel’s mother in the past, but King Arthur personally witnessed Victoria Ashford’s burial, so it was baffling altogether.
Everyone believed that Victoria Ashford was a she-wolf and Hazel’s mother. However, given the countless lies Hazel had told them, it was easier to believe that Victoria was actually the witch the former queen had mentioned.
For whatever reason, it now became clear to Theo that Hazel had faked Victoria Ashford’s death. Victoria was probably the witch working in the shadows, ensuring that Hazel’s crimes were covered up.
While holding his pup, Theo recounted Hazel’s words months ago, ‘Victoria Ashford is not my mother. She is a witch who has been helping me all these years. She gains profit from all my monetary gains.’
“Let’s all retreat to The Lilac Pack,” Theo commanded those part of the medical mission. “Jacob, Inform the kings of what had happened today!”
Sadly, the medical mission ended too soon.
Hours later.
“It’s not like anything I had ever seen,” Juliet said while feeling Ian’s arm. She cried as she asked the pup, “Does it hurt?”
“Not anymore,” Ian said. “But earlier, when that nasty woman would hurt herself, I would get hurt so badly, and when Mommy and Daddy tried to take the thing out, it hurt so much. It feels like it was feeding off me too deep.”
“I can’t see any lump, but I could feel some movement in your arm,” Juliet admitted, pressing her hand firmly on the pup’s arm. “Why did this happen to Ian?”
They were at the Lilac Pack, particularly in Juliet’s clinic, trying to figure out how to help Ian. George and Baron were with Theo, Caroline, and Jacob, helplessly thinking of various ways to get past such a strange predicament.
“What if we try to remove it? Would the witch even know?” George asked.
Everyone looked at each other. Ian was terrified, but he said, “Let’s try.”
They gave Ian some pain reliever before getting started. Juliet grabbed a scalpel and began an incision, but the second she cut part of Ian’s skin, the pup screamed, “Ouch! It’s eating my flesh again!”
Ian was in tears as he was holding its arm. He said, “It’s moving up to my upper arm!”
They were all devastated, helpless! They did not know what else to do!
Just when their hearts were aching for the young pup, Ian suddenly fell off the bed, and after Theo helped him up, a bruise formed on his face. Ian cried, “I felt it, Daddy. The witch did this to me! She hurt herself, and so, I was hurt too!”
It was all too painful to watch. Theo’s body tensed as he embraced Ian back. He said, “I’m sorry, Ian. I’m sorry. We will figure this out. We will.”
They slept on it in the meantime. Theo distracted his son at night by calling Catherine to check on Lilac. The video call, at least, warmed Ian’s heart. Despite what he was going through, he faked a smile for his baby sibling.
“I’ll take care of Lilac, don’t worry,” Catherine said. “Quickly figure out what is going on so you can find Gwen, Theo.”
Through the phone, Catherine stared at the young baby and said, “Lilac needs her mother.”
At the thought of his mate, Theo’s chest tightened. So far, though, he has not sensed anything wrong with Gwen. He could only hope that the witch’s plans for Gwen involved keeping her alive.
He placed his hand on his chest and said, “I’ll find Gwen, Mom. I promise. We’ll also figure out what this insect is inside Ian. We’ll be there soon, but first, we must discuss it with the kings.”
Theo’s group traveled to Cada City the following day, where King Alexander, King Arthur, and King Orion awaited their arrival. Theo recounted the events involving Ian and Gwen. Following his account, the kings deliberated with Theo and the Allards.
“The description of the witch does not match Victoria Ashford, but she could have been in disguise,” King Arthur muttered. “Regardless, whether she is or is not Victoria Ashford, she is a threat.”
“That was why I wanted to gain entry to New Arcadia,” King Alexander muttered. “Remember? Victoria Ashford came from New Arcadia. It could be her hiding place, and she would just come to Alfar whenever she pleases.”
“The insect you spoke of isn’t from Dunswick, but we think it came from New Arcadia,” King Orion shared. “One of my advisers actually came from New Arcadia. She told me that New Arcadia is truly majestic and has unique yet lethal insects and animals within the nation.”
“I have invited this same adviser who came from New Arcadia. Would you like to speak to her?” King Orion asked.
“Yes,” Theo and Gwen’s parents said simultaneously.
Moments later, the adviser arrived. She was Dunswick’s current shaman. She sat in front of the table before the kings and clarified, “A golden insect that the witch had called Twin Vorax Ari?”
Theo and Gwen’s parents nodded. The adviser quickly frowned and shared, “It’s not like any other creature. There is only one kind. They used to belong to the great Grand Witch of New Arcadia.”
“Victoria?” King Arthur asked. “She is the most powerful witch of New Arcadia?”
“Victoria?” The adviser shook her head. “I don’t know who Victoria is, but the greatest witch of New Arcadia was Aurora Windmere. She was a good witch.”
“The story goes like this. The Twin Vorax Ari was meant to protect Aurora Windmere. She loved animals. She had many other creatures with her that had unique abilities. One day, Aurora and the animal that watched over her suddenly vanished.”
With a frown, the adviser added, “There were many stories of her disappearance. Some say someone managed to defeat her. Many said all of her insects and animals were captured with her. So many things happened in New Arcadia years later, including the former king dying. It became chaotic, and… that’s exactly why I left.”
“Yes, I can confirm there were tales of how the Grand Witch of New Arcadia had used the Twin Vorax Ari - that if the main host is hurt, the other gets twice the pain.”
“Sadly, I don’t know how it can be removed,” the adviser regretfully added. “But, you can get the answers from Blackpelt Ridge, the oldest town in New Arcadia, where the previous Great Grand Witch used to live.”
Theo’s hands formed into fists. He muttered, “New Arcadia. How can we get into New Arcadia after angering King Theron?”
“You had angered King Theron?” The adviser asked.
“What a strange coincidence,” the adviser remarked with a frown. “But try because it’s best to enter New Arcadia with the king’s approval. Otherwise, you might end up making an enemy out of King Theron. However, if he disagrees, I know another way of reaching New Arcadia without being detected, but it involves much risk.”
“Let’s try seeking King Theron’s help first,” King Arthur suggested. “And since Victoria came from New Arcadia, chances are, she had also taken Gwen there.”
Theo nodded. He gasped and declared, “I will do whatever it takes to save my son and find my wife. If King Theron does not give me entry to his nation, I will take whatever path known.”
That same evening, King Arthur called King Theron and explained the situation. After a minute of speaking to King Theron on the phone, King Arthur glanced at Theo and said, “He wants to speak to you.”
Theo frowned as he accepted the phone. He requested, “King Theron, please help us.”
On the other line, Theo heard King Theron breathe in deeply. Theron chuckled and said, “I will help you if you give me your wife. When I’m done with her, I can give her back to you - that is, if I grow tired of fucking her.”
It could not be helped; Theo’s blood boiled!
