"Gwen!" Theo screamed.
His first instinct was to jump out of the ship to save Gwen, but to his dismay, the man with a black overcoat at the bow ordered the rogues to attack him. Because of this, Theo let out his wrath!
"You are all going to regret coming over to my pack! I'll kill you all!" Theo went on a rampage, taking down one rogue to another at the vessel's deck.
Combining the speed and resilience of his human form, he nearly took out every enemy on board the ship. With his warriors finding their way into the vessel, the fight was quickly over.
When Theo saw no more rogue coming, he ran to the boat's railing and jumped into the water without thinking.
The loud burst of water stung his ears upon impact, and his body ached, but he kept swimming, determined to find Gwen. Theo surfaced repeatedly for air, diving back each time to continue his quest.
"Gwen! Where are you? Gwen!" Theo screamed as he came back up the water's surface. He snapped at his warriors, who were merely looking down at him, "What are you all standing there for? You need to find Gwen!"
Following his command, his warriors began inspecting the port and diving into the water. Some utilized a speedboat to check the waters further from the docked vessel.
A formal search happened, and it lasted for two days! Theo and many of his warriors camped by the port, but to no avail. They found no Gwen, and strangely, some of the rogues, like the cloaked man, were unaccounted for.
On the third day, Theo's mother entered his made-shift tent by the port. Catherine said with irritation, "Son, what are you doing? Why are you wasting resources on a woman who is a cheater and a daughter of Lucius? How many more of our men have to search for her? She is dead! Gwen is dead -"
"Stop! Mother, I respect you, but I am still the alpha!" Theo took a deep breath. He said, "I am the alpha, and I know what I am doing!"
"But why?" His mother questioned.
"I just want to do the right thing!" Theo reasoned. He did not dare to tell his mother the truth, that he and Gwen were fated mates, and that deep down, his wolf was hurting. For the past three days, his human body had been trying to conceal the pain of his wolf.
"It ends now, Son. When she died, we felt that connection snapped. She is dead!" Catherine said. "Don't tell me you want to look for her body so you can bury her in our burial grounds? Never! She is in the right place where we had thrown Lucius' body!"
"She wasn't that bad, Mother!" Theo shot back, his jaws clenching. "Yes, she cheated on me, but Lucius was a heartless murderer. It's a big difference! Gwen, she - she at least performed her duties to our pack, and even if we hated her and the town disrespected her, she never retaliated!"
Theo's answer made Catherine still. Her body became tensed as she asked, "So what now? Have you grown a heart for her? Well, it's too late; she is dead. And what you are doing is confusing your pack members. We all hated her, remember? Let's focus on the more important things."
"There are damages to the town," Catherine said. "You and Brody need to check how our borders were breached. Enough searching for Gwen. You are only hurting Madison!"
"Remember it's Madison you love, and not Gwen!" Catherine reminded before turning on her heel and exiting the tent.
Catherine failed to close the tent correctly, and from the inside, Theo saw Madison standing there. Madison's eyes were brimming with tears, indicating that she had overheard their conversation.
Madison walked in, saying, "I don't understand your actions, Theo. You have gone mad over what happened to Gwen. Is it just the rejection? Why do I feel like you are acting like a real lover to her? It doesn't matter! She is dead. According to the laws of the council of alphas, when your luna dies, you can remarry!"
"Stop this, please!" Madison begged, and her face became awash with tears. "Stop this madness! Gwen is not worth our time and resources! If you want a luna, marry me. You promised me long ago that you would love me and make me your luna!"
Seeing Madison in this state, Theo became filled with guilt. His wolf was defying, but being the alpha, he knew exactly what to do now. Theo embraced Madison and comforted her. He said, "I'm sorry. You are right. It shouldn't matter now."
He pulled away and cupped Madison's face, declaring, "I'll call off the search."
"Theo, please tell me the truth." Madison looked up to Theo, asking, "Did you never love Gwen?"
Theo's body tightened. He gulped and answered, "Never. I never loved Gwen."
Madison let out a sigh of relief. She hugged Theo again and wept. She described, "It's just that when I saw you at the ship. You looked so heartbroken when Gwen got stabbed -"
"I - um." Theo winced. He sucked in a deep breath and reasoned, "I don't know why I reacted the way I did. I guess I was shocked. I don't think anybody, in general, should die that way. It somehow reminded me of how my father died."
"I see," Madison replied. She peeled off him and smiled. "I get it now. I have always seen how you felt sorry for her, even just a little. I understand."
"But I'm glad we are finally moving on. Right, Theo?" Madison asked.
Theo nodded, "Yes, that's right. Let's move on."
"I'll announce to the warriors," Madison smiled. "They will be happy to know this search fiasco is over."
Theo almost prevented Madison from making that announcement, but he couldn't take it back. Madison and his mother were right. There was no purpose in searching for Gwen.
She was obviously gone.
He perfectly recalled the position of the blade in Gwen's chest, how the blood seeped out of her flesh. Plus, the fall into the water made it impossible to survive it.
Theo remained in his tent for the next few minutes, walking around in circles. He kept convincing himself that he made the right choice. Finally, it was Brody who gave him a clearer perspective of things.
His beta entered his tent and asked, "How was the visit from your Mom and Madison? I see that you have finally agreed to end the search."
Theo sat on a chair in front of a small table, and Brody took the seat before him.
"I had to. I couldn't tell them why I wanted to continue searching for her," Theo revealed.
"Why don't you just tell them the truth? That you and Gwen were fated mates?" Brody asked.
"No," Theo said. "I could never tell them that. That will break my mother's heart."
"Do you feel that she is gone?" Theo asked Brody.
"Her bond to the pack is broken," Brody acknowledged. "Why? Do you feel Gwen is still alive?"
Theo ran his fingers through his hair. He described, "I don't know. It was painful, but it doesn't seem to be the same kind of pain my mother experienced when we lost Dad. Something in me believes she is still alive, but I admit, I felt that her connection to the pack is also gone."
"Your mom and dad are not only fated mates but also had marked each other, Alpha," Brody reminded. "So, the pain of your father's death was more excruciating for your mom."
"In your case, maybe you can tolerate the pain because you haven't marked each other," Brody suggested. "Also, you never wanted to be with her, so that must have built a wall around you."
'She is gone, Alpha, and you said it yourself; the blade was long," Brody reminded.
"Yes, it was long. I think over half a meter," Theo recounted.
"That is a freaking long knife, Alpha. It must have pierced through her back as well. And we haven't found her for days. Her body must have been carried deeper into the sea," Brody suggested. "I know that fated mates have this special bond the Moon Goddess has bestowed upon us, and the pain will continue to hurt you for days, maybe months, but she is gone, Alpha."
"Gwen is dead," Brody repeated.
"Okay. Okay," Theo sucked in a deep breath. He massaged his temples and cleared his throat, agreeing, "You are right. You are right, Brody."
He stood up and started collecting his things, saying, "Thank you for coming in to talk to me. Let's pack up and return home."

Meanwhile, in a cave outside the borders of Port Leon, a woman was sleeping. A blanket covered her frame as she lay on her back.
"No, please. I'm pregnant. Don't hurt me," she muttered under her breath. Her forehead formed beads of sweat, and she was crying. "No!"
Her body jerked awake from the awful nightmare, and her purple eyes opened. Tears trickled down her face as she chased her breath.
"Finally, you are awake."
The woman turned to the man who spoke and saw something she had never seen before.
Standing before her was another werewolf with purple-colored eyes. The man smirked at her and greeted, "Long time no see, Sister."
