                    ~ Gwen ~
On Gwen's second night awake, Theron came to her quarters to assist her with her dinner. After Gwen sipped on her soup, Theron wiped the corners of her mouth. He said, "Careful, it's still hot. You are still so weak. Your hands are shaking."
He took the cup of soup and said, "Here, let me help you."
Theron fed Gwen in the next few seconds, and while that was happening, Gwen raised many silent questions in her mind, 'Did I really fall in love with him? How?' She frowned and added, 'He isn't really my type.'
Then, all of a sudden, the image of Theo, the mate who had rejected her, surfaced in her head. She muttered silently, 'Indeed, this Theo is more likely the kind of man I would like, but he is also the same person who deserted me.'
In the middle of filling her stomach, Gwen tried to recount any other memory of Theo, her ex-mate. Out of nowhere, images of her and Theo fighting, him calling her a 'slut' rang in her head, and immediately, she cried.
It hurt. It hurt so much.
"Gwen? What's wrong?" Theron asked while putting the bowl of soup aside.
"I'm sorry." Gwen looked up to Theron and said, "I - I remember bits and pieces of how my ex-mate and I fought. It - is -"
Clenching against her chest, Gwen added, "It feels so heartbreaking. I'm sorry. I don't mean to hurt you. It's just that I don't remember you -"
"It's alright. You sought my comfort because of how badly hurt you were with Theo. Our friendship turned into something else, and that was how we fell in love," Theron suggested.
His words touched her, but no matter how much she tried to force herself to believe, she couldn't. It was strange how Gwen… felt nothing for this handsome man.
"I'm sorry, I can't remember," Gwen softly responded.
"It's okay. Victoria said Theo had poisoned you, and that was how you lost your memories," Theron revealed. "Aside from being one of my advisors, Victoria is also a shaman in my nation. She knows how to treat you."
"Poisoned?" Gwen reacted.
"Yes, a kind of poison that, when taken too long, makes you forget," Theron added. "But don't worry, we know the cure."
"The cure?" Gwen held Theron's arm and asked. "What is the cure? Tell me. I want to remember."
"Aside from eating healthy, we simply need to cleanse your blood regularly," Theron said. "By drawing blood from you and allowing your body to reproduce healthy blood. Extracting a hundred or two hundred milliliters of blood weekly should do the trick. We could take less, depending on your progress."
"Every week?" Gwen echoed. For some reason, she knew that a hundred milliliters was the maximum amount of blood a werewolf could extract from oneself, so why would Victoria extract more?
"I know it sounds scary, but we can try just taking a hundred milliliters weekly, but if you still don't regain your memory, we may need to take more than usual," Theron explained. He held her hand and assured her, "Don't worry, Gwen. I won't harm you. I will make sure you recover quickly."
She stared into Theron's eyes, hopeful. A tear fell down her cheek as she responded, "I hope so. It's hard not to know one's self."
Gwen showed Theron the blade mark on her arm and asked, "Like this tattoo? I don't know if I like tattoos, but I have one -"
"It's because I have tattoos, and one day, you decided to get one," Theron explained.
Gwen then rested her hand on the slope between her neck and shoulder, asking, "It hurts here sometimes, like a throbbing pain. I don't understand it, but I see nothing, no itch, no inflammation -"
"I will ask Victoria to recheck you when she gets back. For now, she had prescribed a medication to alleviate any pain or discomfort," Theron said. He studied her intently, and Gwen noticed a hint of yearning in his eyes. He said, "I really missed you, Gwen."
Gwen gulped because Theron leaned forward. She could tell he wanted to kiss her, but she turned away. "I'm sorry."
From the corner of her eyes, she noticed Theron's hand formed into fists, his knuckles turning white. The energy around him intensified, and she could tell he was angered. But after a few seconds, they let out a sigh. Instead, Theron embraced her tightly, saying, "Forgive me. It's just that you were gone for two months. I longed for you every day - to kiss you and make love with you. I will try to be patient, but I don't know for how long."
Theron was silent momentarily before adding, "As an alpha werewolf, I also have needs."
He pulled away and then let Gwen resume her dinner. He stayed until she finished everything in the bowl. When Gwen was done, Theron stood up and ordered the maids to dish out the bowls and cutleries. He smiled at Gwen and said, "You'll feel better tomorrow. We can go around the estate. It will help you feel better."
Gwen forced a smile and said, "Thank you."
~ Theo ~
Theo thought they would leave immediately after Aurora stepped down from the mountain ridge, but no. Instead, they spent a few more hours collecting potions and herbs at the old brick house.
His men had already sprayed scents that were distinct to New Arcadia. In that way, no one would identify them as werewolves from Northern or Southern Alfar.
"That's it, Theo! I'm going!" Baron grumbled, taking a bag of food and drinks with him.
"Do you know the way?" Jacob asked him. "We have no choice but to wait for Aurora."
"It will take us two days to reach the capital, at least!" Baron complained.
The golden snakes suddenly swarmed around them. They all gave Baron dirty looks. It was as if the serpents were ready to attack. However, Aurora soon stepped out of the brick house with Arthur. She had a commanding aura as she said, "I'm sorry to keep everyone waiting. Let's go."
"And don't worry, it won't take us two days. Now that I have regained my strength, we can travel through this." Aurora stretched out her right hand, and suddenly, blue and white light began to swirl around her wrist.
"Is that what I think it is?" Caroline asked.
"Yes," Aurora replied. "It's a portal."
It wasn't the first time that Theo had seen a portal. Victoria had taken his wife in that manner, so it no longer surprised him that Aurora could do the same. However, he acknowledged that the portal Aurora had created had more energy.
"Quickly, all those coming with me to the capital, hold on to me!" Aurora instructed. Arthur was the first to hold her arm, and the rest followed. Malrick and Selera came with them. Many snakes also ran to them, wrapping their bodies around their limbs.
It did not take long before the swirling light grew, blinding them. Then, for a split second, Theo felt like they were lost in a void of white light. Everything was so confusing that he feared losing his grip on King Arthur.
'Fuck, I want to get this over with!' Theo screamed in his head. As he was getting dizzy, feeling lost in that white void, everything suddenly turned dark. Their feet seemed to have landed on a paved road, and a tall stone wall stood before them.
"We are here," Aurora said. "We are at Cedarwall."
She looked at the stone walls and said, "These are the walls protecting the capital."
They are about to find an entry to the capital, when Aurora unexpectedly reported, "We have company! Theo, hide your men! Now!"
Theo sensed it, too. He and his warriors hid behind the wall's foundations, some in the nearby trees. He watched closely as another group suddenly appeared before Aurora.
"Aurora, so it's you!" Theo saw it was Victoria. She suddenly appeared by the stone walls with over twenty werewolves with her.
"Yes, it's me. I came to collect," Aurora said through gritted teeth.
