                    ~ Theo ~
From where Theo stood, he could smell the group of werewolves from one side of the stone walls. They were tailing behind the witch, Victoria. Theo could tell they were warriors of New Arcadia. They smelled different from the rogues that attacked them at Blackpelt Ridge.
The werewolves with Victoria had a more overbearing energy. They were clad in camouflage fighting gear and were mostly brawny men.
‘Alpha, should we help out the Grand Witch?’ Dunken linked with him. He and Rollin had concealed themselves behind the trees from afar.
Theo squinted as he analyzed the situation. Before the adversaries were Aurora, her two witches who had barely practiced over the years, and the golden snakes.
The odds certainly did not look even.
‘Remember, you cannot reveal yourself yet, Theo. This was Aurora’s instructions,’ King Arthur also linked with them. ‘We cannot risk Victoria to discover you. Otherwise, Ian will be in danger.’
Theo was skeptical, but he knew the Grand Witch was correct. So, he waited.
Minutes later, a battle between witches unfolded before them. Beams of white and blue light emitted from their hands. Victoria formed balls of magic, while Aurora, with her wizardry, seemed to have also called upon the earth as branches suddenly sprung up, creating a shield.
The air around Aurora also created another layer of protection, dispelling every weapon the New Arcadia werewolves threw at her!
Looking at it from afar, Theo thought it was mystical. He held his breath many times, simply amazed.
Later, Theo realized that Aurora held back during the fight. In fact, there were moments when Theo thought Aurora was bored since she yawned a few times. Victoria did not scream or appear affected! Still, Aurora kept her busy, engaged enough not to aid her colleagues.
Surprisingly, the snakes came in handy. The golden serpents had wrapped themselves around the rival’s faces, blinding and biting them. The warriors from New Arcadia had not expected this kind of enemy and did not know how to handle the situation. Many of them went into a frenzy, expressing their repulsion towards the serpents.
“Snakes!”
“Fucking snakes!”
“Get them off me! Help!”
“I hate snakes!”
On the other hand, Malrick and Selera cautiously approached, utilizing a poison powder they had crafted by crushing herbs near the brick house. The powder was designed to disorient their enemies, leaving them confused and dizzy, and it allowed Baron and Jacob to attack from a distance, using their weapons.
“Fuck! I’ve been hit!”
“What’s that?” One adversary said. “Where is the arrow coming from.”
Thankfully, Theo’s group arrived at night. They could not see clearly how Baron’s arrow and Jacob’s handheld blades had disappeared after disabling an opponent!
Theo and the others also helped. In the dark, whenever an opponent found themselves in their position, they secretly attacked from behind!
It did not take long for Victoria to take a break. She saw how the warriors with her were either dead or immobilized. Left with no one to help her, she screamed, “Who is fighting with you, Aurora? I can tell their scents are concealed?”
Victoria was panting as she stared around, eyeing every corner of the area. “Get out! Show yourselves!”
“It doesn’t matter if I have help,” Aurora said. “You have help as well, so why can’t I?”
“Val! Kain! Zena!” Victoria called a few names, clearly asking for backup. However, Aurora began her final move next. She appeared to have skipped space and time. In a split second, she was right in front of Victoria!
Malrick and Selera came up from behind the evil witch and held her arms. Aurora raised Victoria’s chin and said, “Look into my eyes!”
Victoria stilled. She seemed to be in a trance. She was not resistant, merely gawking at Aurora, her mouth wide open.
Afterward, the assistant witches released Victoria’s arms. Aurora took Victoria’s right hand and called, “My dear Vorax Ari, come to me, your master.”
Aurora chanted unknown words, and a light swirled around them, giving her a clear view of the task at hand. From where Theo hid, he saw the golden little creature come out of Victoria’s arm.
With her hand, Aurora held the Vorax Ari. She cried and said, “I’m sorry, old friend, but maybe it’s time to go. Your twin had hurt an innocent child. The power that you hold is too dangerous for the innocent.”
From the corner of Theo’s eyes, he noticed King Arthur stepping out of his hiding. He approached Aurora and offered comfort.
Theo realized it was safe to come out. Victoria was still in reverie, lost in her thoughts. She stood there like a statue, looking in no particular direction. The closer Theo got to Aurora, the more he realized the Vorax Ari was dead.
Aurora turned to him and revealed, “Twin Vorax Aris have to be together when removed from their hosts. Because he was alone, and being the older Vorax Ari, he died. Your people can safely remove the Vorax Ari from your son’s arm. Its twin should already be dead, too. They are like two mated werewolves, unable to live without each other.”
“Arggh!” Just as Aurora said that, Victoria grunted. She had freed herself from whatever magic or spell Aurora had put her through.
When Victoria looked around, she recognized Theo’s presence. She said, “You! Do you want your son to die!”
“His son is not going to die!” Aurora said. “You, on the other hand, are going to die!”
Victoria looked closely at Aurora, and only then did she realize that the Vorax Ari was already in her hand.
Seeing the Vorax Ari, Victoria’s face paled. She panicked and attempted to escape using a portal, but Theo grabbed her hair and yanked her backward. He screamed, “You are not getting away! Where is my wife!”
Clearly, Victoria had lost energy from her fight with Aurora. Theo saw how suddenly she had aged.
“Let her go, Theo. She can absorb a human’s essence. Let me deal with her,” Aurora warned. “Back away, everyone!”
Without giving Vitoria a chance to report, Aurora thrust a powerful beam of light in her direction, leaving the evil witch to scream in agony. This time, Theo could tell Aurora was using her full powers!
The energy around them rose to a higher level. To Theo, the magic was scorching, and he moved as far back as he could. His companions followed behind him.
“Ahhh!”
“You will never know where your wife is!”
“She is dead! Gwen is dead!”
“Ahhh!”
Theo did not know how long Victoria was in Aurora’s mercy, but by the time she was finished, the evil witch had dramatically aged!
Victoria was lying on the ground. Her skin had weathered, marked with deep wrinkles. She could barely breathe and open her eyes. Chasing her breath, Victoria said, “This -this can’t be - my end.”
“Tell us where Gwen is,” Aurora asked through gritted teeth. “I will let you die swiftly.”
Victoria chased her breath. She laughed weakly and said, “I’ll - I’ll never tell - Urggh!”
Blood gushed out of Victoria’s mouth, preventing her from speaking further. Before they knew it, life drained out of her.
“No!” Theo barked. He knelt before Victoria and ordered, “Where is my wife!”
“Victoria is gone. We will just have to look for your wife, Theo. Right now, more werewolves are coming for us! Let us all prepare to fight!” Aurora said, looking beyond the walls of Cedarwall.
