~ Theo ~
Missing his wife so much, Theo opted to rest beside her. Aurora let them sleep in one of the brick house’s guest rooms. He cuddled up to Gwen, wrapping her in his arms, and breathed in her lilac scent.
Compared to the recent days, Theo had a good night’s sleep. Finally, he had his wife back. His happiness was short-lived, however, because when morning came, Gwen awoke, and the first thing she did was attack Theo!
The sound of a shattered glass startled Theo. When he sat up, Gwen was already holding a piece of broken glass against his neck. She screamed, “Why did you take me again? You rejected me, but you kidnap me? Why can’t you just leave me alone!”
Gwen’s reaction felt like a knife into his heart. How could his beloved not recognize him?
Raising his hands up, Theo gasped and answered, “Gwen, I don’t know what Theron told you, but believe me, I’m not the bad guy here. We are married.”
Theo showed Gwen his ring and said, “We have two children, and our kids are waiting for your return.”
“Liar!” Gwen yelled. “Theron did not have to tell me anything. I recalled how you rejected me! You even called me a slut!” She paused and while frowning, she noted, “But you looked a little younger in my memory.”
Theo swallowed air down his throat. His brows furrowed, and he realized she had retained memories of the time they were first married. He shook his head and said, “Gwen, that was your memory from years ago - when I had not seen the truth yet.”
“I - I admit I had attempted to reject you, but things were complicated back then. It’s a long story, I thought you cheated on me, but everything had been cleared up between us. We reconciled, not only for the sake of our son but also because we are true mates. We love each other,” Theo cautiously explained.
“Are you - are you saying we are together?” Gwen raised.
“Yes, we have been married for almost a year,” Theo explained. “We have a son named Ian, and we have a baby girl who is waiting for your return. Her name is Lilac.”
Finally, Gwen retreated her hand that held the broken glass. Her lips quivered as she asked, “But why don’t I have a mark? And why can’t - why can’t I remember?”
“Mark?” Theo pulled down his shirt and showed her their mark as mates. He said, “You have one too. Look at your neck.”
Gwen looked down and was shocked to see the mark. She said, “This wasn’t here before.” She glared at Theo, asking, “What did you do to me? Are you trying to trick me? Did you put a mark on me just to make me believe?”
“Gwen, no! We are fated mates. I would not lie to you!” Theo rushed over to Gwen. His movements were swift, not allowing Gwen to refute. He immediately held the hand that had the broken glass, and, with his grip, Theo forced her to release it.
“Ouch!” Gwen yelped.
“I’m sorry.” Theo forced Gwen’s hand on his chest and said, “Feel my heart beating. I’m not lying to you, and if you look into my eyes, you can sense I am telling you the truth. I love you, Gwen. I lost you once due to our troubled past; I will never lose you again.”
Gwen’s eyes brimmed with tears. She looked so confused. She tried to push Theo away, but she could not.
“I - I don’t know what to believe!” She cried.
“Listen to me. If you don’t believe me for now, you’ll surely believe your brother,” Theo suggested. He linked with Dunken and Rollin, asking them to bring Baron into the brick house.
The rest of their group had camped outside, so it would take Baron a few minutes to reach them.
“Brother?” Gwen echoed.
“Yes, your brother. His name is Baron,” Theo replied.
“How do I know you are not tricking me?” Gwen questioned.
“Oh, you’ll know he is your brother, and it isn’t just the familial bond,” Theo said, further baffling Gwen.
It did not take long for Baron to arrive at the guest room. He walked through the door, and the moment he saw Gwen, he said, “Gwen, it’s me, your brother, Baron.”
Gwen snapped her head in Baron’s direction. She looked like she wanted to object, but when Gwen stared into Baron’s eyes, she gasped and asked, “You - you are my brother?”
Baron nodded. He looked emotional as he offered his arms to Gwen. Without giving Gwen a chance to oppose, Baron embraced her. Theo saw how Baron’s hold made Gwen gasp. Theo could tell she sensed their familial bond.
~ Gwen ~
Theo tried to explain that they were married. The scary part was that she felt so strongly attracted to him. However, she recalled that they were once mates. Thus, the pull was understandable. All she needed to do was to resist it.
There were a few things that Gwen could not explain, but she sensed the truth in Theo’s words and felt the calmness of his heart. She wondered if it was indeed Theron who had kidnapped her and not the other way around.
Holding Baron, however, was a different story. Not only did this man have the same eye color as her, she could feel he was her family.
Gwen’s chest felt congested, and she wound up bursting into heavy tears. She could not fathom it. Gwen felt so at home with Baron, so safe. Could this man really be her brother?
She felt Baron’s comfort as he rubbed his back. He said, “It’s okay now. We found you, and we are going back to Ian and Lilac. I don’t know how you lost your memory, but you still have a family. Trust me. Trust your husband, Theo. Listen to your heart. We are your family.”
It wasn’t just Baron who walked into the room. There was another brawny man who called out her name. “Gwen.”
The same man had purple eyes like her. He looked at Theo and Baron, asking, “She really doesn’t remember?”
“It’s me, Gwen, Jacob,” the man said.
Gwen was still sobbing in Baron’s arms. She studied Jacob intently and then looked up to Baron, asking, “Is he… my brother too?”
“No, this is Jacob. He is my best friend, and I guess your best friend too.” Baron was teary-eyed as he explained, “We come from a clan of purple-eyed werewolves. We have a unique ability to heal. You can heal others. Victoria probably took you for your blood because your blood is a miracle cure.”
“Blood? My blood can heal others?” Chills ran down Gwen’s spine, recalling how Theron had suggested that she have regular blood extraction to remove the poison in her body. It all made sense to her now.
“Look,” Baron said while holding up her arm. You have the moonstone blade mark on your arm.
Baron turned around and pulled up his shirt. He showed his bow and arrow tattoos and said, “I have this for my weapon -”
“And this is mine.” Jacob showed his hand-held blade marks on his arms and suddenly thrust one blade into his hand!
Gwen gasped, shocked by what she had seen.
When he turned to Baron, the bow and arrow were now also in his hand. Baron said, “You are like us. You can also will your moonstone blade in your hand and use it as a weapon.”
Gwen’s lips trembled. She struggled to speak because she simply could not believe it.
“Try it, Gwen. It’s another way for you to trust us: knowing that you are like us,” Baron suggested.
“How - how do I even do that?” Gwen asked.
“Imagine you are in danger, and you need to defend yourself. Just thrust your arm backward and claim it! You are holding your weapon!” Baron suggested.
Gwen hesitated, but everything they had said seemed aligned so far. So, she tried what they had suggested, but nothing came out.
“Gwen, you are second-guessing,” Jacob said. “Believe it! Believe in your heritage.”
Following Jacob’s words, she dug desperately into her memories. Suddenly, a vivid image surfaced—she was strapped to a bed, her blood being extracted. Rage surged through her veins. She threw her hand back, her blood boiling with fury. Gwen screamed, “Ahh!”
The second she did that, a blade appeared in her hand. Gwen was stupified. She took many deep breaths as she said, “I - I am like you?”
“Yes,” Baron and Jacob said at the same time.
An hour later, Gwen sat in front of a woman named Aurora. Jacob, Baron, Theo, and other people she did not know were with them too.
“Aurora, Victoria is already gone. Why doesn’t my wife remember?” Theo asked the woman.
Aurora glanced at Gwen and smiled. She said, “Let me have a closer look at her and see where the problem lies.”
