~ Gwen ~
“Here, make yourself comfortable,” Theo said while handing her three woolen blankets. It would serve as her bed, blanket, and pillow.
They were somewhere on a hilltop and had been for three hours. Aurora had to regain her strength. A portal was the only way for them to leave New Arcadia faster and safely.
Theo had assembled a small tent made of durable plastic. Considering the town’s lack of resources, that was the best they could do. However, Theo had secured the base to the ground. He had created the roof by tying ropes in two trees.
“what - what about you?” Gwen asked, realizing there were only three tents in their makeshift camp.
“I don’t mind sleeping on the ground. I am a werewolf,” Theo reminded with a smirk.
“Well, so am I,” Gwen said. “But a comfortable bed would help.”
“It’s okay. You take the tent,” Theo said. “Dunken, Rollin, and I will go on patrol to ensure safety. I will be back after a few hours.”
He turned to the other tent where Caroline was with Jacob and said, “The rest will be here for you, including your brother.”
Gwen reluctantly agreed. She set up her tent and had dinner with the rest of the group. Jacob and Baron tried to strike up a conversation with her, bringing up memories she could not recall. She appreciated their efforts, but for now, nothing was coming back.
‘Maybe soon,’ she thought.
Gwen decided to rest early. During the first few hours, she managed to get a good sleep. However, some time later, Gwen shivered in the cold. She got up, blowing heat into her palms. “It’s so cold.”
“Gwen?” Theo called, and when she looked up at the tent’s opening, she was surprised that the man was shirtless! ‘Didn’t he feel the cold at all?’
When Theo caught her staring at his chest, he explained, “I was in my wolf form. We found a stream nearby and took an evening bath. I had only managed to put on my pants when you awoke. Everything okay?”
Gwen shook her head. She was a werewolf, but why was she feeling so cold? Was she in such a weak state that she could not even warm herself up.
“You feel cold,” Theo noticed because her lips trembled.
Theo unwittingly joined her in the tent. He sat behind her and wrapped her in his arms, his legs enveloping her.
His actions made Gwen nervous. Her heart drummed against her ribcage, and sweat began to form on her forehead. She took many deep breaths before saying, “Um - you - you don’t have to -”
“Of course, I have to. I am your husband. I should protect you,” Theo responded, his voice with a hint of longingness.
Theo helped tighten the blanket around her, and then he further strengthened his hold on her and leaned his head closer. He was so close that Gwen could feel his breath tickling her skin. It gave her warmth, but at the same time, it gave her indescribable goosebumps.
Gwen felt uncomfortable but in a different way. She could not contain her pounding heart or the excitement in her stomach. When she thought she was hiding her emotions well, Theo said, “It’s okay for you to feel that way. I’m your fated mate and your husband.”
‘Dammit! I forgot fated mates can feel each other’s emotions!’ Gwen snapped her head to face him, her eyes rounding. She reasoned, “I - I can’t help it.”
A chuckle left Theo’s lips. He unknowingly flaunted the laugh lines on his face, which made him extra handsome.
Gwen’s heart melted into a puddle of goo, and her face burned. She quickly looked away and muttered, ‘I’m just cold.
“Okay,” Theo said. “If you say so.”
Gwen averted his gaze from that moment on and simply focused on warming herself. Soon, she felt right at home in his arms. Her body no longer shivered, and she unconsciously leaned back against his chest.
Gwen cuddled closely to her firm yet comfortable pillow. She rested her cheeks on something warm. She smiled and embraced the source of the heat. Seconds later, she realized that her pillow returned the embrace!
Her eyes fluttered open, and she became aware that her cheek was resting on a man’s chest – a very well-defined chest!
Taking a deep breath, Gwen pulled away and stared at the man. She realized it was Theo.
She and Theo had slept in each other’s arms! The worst part was how she had rubbed her cheek against his broad chest!
Gwen went into panic mode. She tried to free herself from Theo’s hold, but the guy was pinning her too close! Later on, she surrendered. Gwen decided she was better off pretending to be asleep.
She closed her eyes but barely. This gave her a perfect view of Theo’s torso.
‘Wow,’ she thought. “He is so fine!’
Looking down, she saw his morning erection and Goddess, it was huge!
Gwen did not know what came over her, but after admiring his gorgeous body, she had dirty thoughts about Theo. Her hand unwittingly rested on his abs, and when Theo put his thick thigh around her, she imagined being intimate with him!
Suddenly, an image of her and Theo flashed in her head. The two of them were tangled in bed, naked, making love.
Gwen gasped, and her heart raced further. Something wet gushed out of her core, and it jerked Theo awake!
“Fuck,” Theo hissed. He wasn’t looking at her, but he said, “You sure pick a bad time to have an arousal, Gwen.”
“A - a - arousal? I wasn’t!” Gwen denied while pulling the blanket closer to her.
“Oh, really?” Theo turned to her and smirked. He sniffed her profusely and insisted, “You can’t hide it, sweetheart? What are we going to do about that? Your brother, Jacob, and my men will smell your arousal. Do you want them to notice it too?”
“A - no!” Gwen responded. Her face was already tomato red when she covered it. “I don’t know what to do with it. I can’t control it!”
“That’s because we are true mates, fated by the Moon Goddess. We are drawn together, like a moth to a flame,” Theo said in a husky tone. He looked down and back up to her eyes, asking, “Do you want me to take care of it?”
“What? No!” Gwen reacted. “I - I don’t - really know you -”
Theo paused. He sucked in a deep breath and said, “Then, stay here. I’ll get you breakfast and some tea. Hopefully, your lustful thoughts of me will die down soon.”
Sadly for Gwen, those naughty thoughts never left her. In fact, as she and Theo ate together, she saw everything sensually, like how his adam’s apple moved and how the muscles on his biceps moved.
Every bone in her body wanted to jump on Theo, but Gwen held back, controlling the itch. She could not explain what was happening to her! The worst part was her arousal was growing!
Gwen thought she could hold on to her sanity. However, before lunchtime came, Baron tried to approach her tent. He caught a whiff of her arousal, and Baron asked, “Gwen? Are you in heat?”
‘Oh, my Goddess! Am I in heat?’ She wasn’t sure. Gwen did not know when the last time she was in heat, or ever was!
A female werewolf only becomes in heat in the next lunar cycle after being marked. Then, in every full moon thereafter. However, they did not have a full moon last night!
Theo was still with her in the tent. He turned to her wide-eyed. He muttered, “Full moon is not coming around.”
“But -” Gwen paused then, her inner doctor murmured, “Stress-related or irregular heat can happen in she-wolves.”
“Oh, my Goddess, I am in heat!” Gwen declared, her eyes rounding in shock. “I am having an irregular heat!”
“Darn,” Baron muttered. He turned around and ordered, “No one comes closer to Gwen’s tent, especially the men!”
At that very moment, Theo growled. His fangs elongated as he turned to Gwen. He said, “I’m not going to let others smell you while in heat!”
“Um - um, but what can I do?” Gwen asked helplessly.
“The only way is to take care of it,” Theo said with narrowed eyes.
The next thing Gwen knew, Theo carried her across his shoulder and sped away! He commanded, “No one is allowed to follow us! No one!”
