~ Gwen ~
Gwen's mouth fell open, and she stared at the man with purple eyes. Everything around her seemed to have blurred, and her attention was focused on this stranger.
The man looked familiar. She mused, 'Where have I seen him before?'
Not only do they share the same eye color, but he is also blond. He was tall and had a well-built body, which meant he was a trained warrior. Based on his facial features, this man appeared to be in his late twenties.
The man smirked and suddenly gave her the shock of her life. He said, "Long time no see, Sister."
'Sister.' The word rang in her head like a hundred times. 'Sister.'
Gwen unknowingly pulled her knees closer to her chest and clenched on the blanket that covered her legs. She asked, "Sister?"
From an amused expression, the man's face bore a hint of sadness. Yet, he masked his sentiments quickly, sniffing whatever tears were threatening to fall from the corners of his eyes. He gulped and squatted before Gwen, saying, "Yes, sister. My name is Baron. Our family has been searching for you for twenty-four years. Finally, now I have found you."
Gwen stilled. She tried to process the information but still found it hard to believe. She asked, "Our family? Lucius?"
Suddenly, the man's face darkened. His jaws clenched, and his hands balled into fists! He said, "He is not your father! How dare he claim you as his daughter? If he were alive today, I'd kill him with my bare hands!"
Yet again, Gwen gasped. Her mouth fell open from the shock, and tears immediately trickled down her face.
"Lucius is not my father?" Gwen echoed. She did not know this man before her. He claimed to be her brother, but the news he shared truly made sense!
It was no wonder that Lucius never loved her. He tormented her, hurt her, and punished her time and time again!
She was not Lucius Darwin's daughter!
"Oh, Goddess! No wonder! No wonder!" Gwen screamed, and her voice echoed loudly in the cave. Only then did Gwen look around and realize they were in a small, dark cavern.
A lamp lit up the makeshift camp, and she rested on a sleeping bag with leaves beneath it to serve as her cushion.
"There is a lot of that you should know, but trust me, he is not your father. I am your brother, Baron. We belong to a group of werewolves with purple eyes. We have a unique ability, but because of this, we have hidden ourselves from the world." Baron explained.
"Twenty-four years ago, our pack was nearly eliminated by an unknown enemy, and it was on that day that you were taken. Whoever attacked our pack thought we were all dead, and then they took you," Baron explained. "We have been searching for you ever since."
Gwen gulped. She looked into the man's eyes and saw no signs of suspicion. He was probably sensing her hesitation that he took out a knife and cut his palm. He offered his wounded hand to Gwen, including the knife. He said, "Feel our bond."
She took a deep breath. She accepted the knife and cut her hand. She clasped her hand to his and sensed the kinship between them!
Gwen gasped, and more tears rolled down her face. She felt a sense of familiarity and belongingness she had never felt in Lucius' and Theo's packs.
The wolf in her was howling. She concluded how Baron and her were truly flesh and blood!
"You are my sister, Gwen! We are family!" Baron declared, and ultimately, he cried. Then, he suddenly embraced Gwen. "After so many years, I blamed myself for failing to protect you, my baby sister, but now I have found you, and I will take you away from this wretched place that had hurt you for so many years."
When Gwen embraced Baron, she felt his longing and attachment. She could not help but cry with him. She recognized how unfortunate her past was. She had been taken from her real family, deprived of the love that she had deserved for so many years!
Gwen did not know how long she cried in Baron's arms, but she let it all out. She was overwhelmed with a mix of emotions. She was angry, but at the same time, she was hopeful that she could finally find happiness with the discovery of the truth.
After what felt like forever, Gwen pulled away. She carelessly wiped the tears on her face and said, "I thought my life was over - I thought I was dead -"
Gwen frowned. She remembered that she was stabbed with a blade!
She felt her chest, and she frantically looked for the stabbed wound, but like always, it was gone. The same could be said with the cut on her hand. She was fully healed.
"Baron, didn't I die? I was captured by rogues and thrown into the water. Did you swim after me? How am I still alive?" Gwen asked.
Baron paused for a moment. He said, "About that."
He stood up and searched around the cave. He found a cloak and put it over his head. As Gwen gasped, Baron admitted, "It was me the whole time. I was the one who stabbed you, but don't worry, the blade did not kill you, and it won't, ever."
"It was a moonstone blade, given to you by the Moon Goddess above. It is meant to be part of you, like all purple-eyed werewolves," Baron added. "Back at the ship, I stabbed you because I had to make it look like you had died so no one else would come after you or come looking for you, for that matter."
"Moonstone blade? Part of me?" Gwen asked, utterly bemused. "I'm sorry, that still did not answer why I am still alive."
"Each of us, purple-eyed werewolves, are gifted with a weapon to defend ourselves," Baron explained. "We have weapons because many have thought to exploit our special ability."
"Special ability?" Gwen asked, her brow raising.
"We will get to that part. For now, let me finish." Baron raised his hand, saying, "As I was saying, we are gifted with a moonstone weapon to protect us, some better than others, depending on how great one's ability is."
"When you were born, you were pared with a moonstone blade." Baron held Gwen's right arm, and then he flipped it. He ordered, "Look at your wrist."
Gwen looked down, and yet again, she gasped. On her wrist was a gray tattoo of a blade, and it looked the same as the one that she was stabbed with.
'I have a tattoo?' She mused. 'Between being kidnapped and dying, when did I have time to get one?'
"What the? How did I get that?" Gwen exclaimed.
Baron laughed. He sucked in a deep breath and said, "Okay. It's hard to explain, but I suppose I can show you."
"Show me?" Gwen looked so confused. The next thing she knew, her newfound brother was taking off his shirt. "What's going on?"
When Baron was half naked, he gave Gwen his back.
It was dark in the cavern, but the lamp was enough to highlight the beautiful artwork of a bow and arrow on his back. Baron pointed to his lower back and described, "The tip of this arrow is made of a moonstone. My weapon is in the form of a bow and arrow, while yours is a long blade, almost like a shortsword."
"So when I say that the weapon is part of us, I meant to say... it lives in us," Baron said before his back suddenly glowed.
What Gwen witnessed next left her in another astonishment. "Oh, my... Goddess."
