~ Gwen ~
Baron showed her for a little while, just enough to feed her curiosity, but the revelation made Gwen want to know more! Sadly, Baron insisted on returning his magical weapon.
Gwen was still shocked by what she had seen. She had heard stories about gifted werewolves and how some are more closely connected to the Moon Goddess. However, seeing it with her own eyes overwhelmed her—especially since she was part of it!
"There is a lot that you should know about us, our abilities, and our family, but right now, my priority is to get you out of here," Baron revealed. "Once we are on safe grounds, I will train you to hone your skills. Unfortunately, Northern Alfar is not a safe place for our kind, Gwen."
"Our family," she echoed. Gwen's lips quivered as she asked, "Aside from you, I have a family."
Baron gave a light nod. He said, "Mother and father survived the attack that happened twenty-three years ago. Together, we have been searching for you, Gwen. Our parents are in our new home, waiting for your return."
Gwen's mouth remained open for seconds. Her emotions were all over the place again. Belatedly, she clarified, "I have a mother and father?"
"The alpha and luna of the Purple-Eye Pack," Baron confirmed.
"So, I truly am of an alpha blood," Gwen muttered.
"That and a lot more, Gwen," Baron revealed.
"Home? You said home. Where is home exactly?" Gwen inquired.
"From the last attack, we have relocated to a more hidden location, Gwen," Baron revealed. "But in the same country. We still live in Southern Alfar."
Gwen was left stunned again. Southern Alfar was a whole different nation, led by another werewolf king. Northern and Southern Alfar used to be one, but the sons of the prior king were in conflict, resulting in the separation of Alfar. That was how the North and South had become two independent werewolf nations.
It took a moment to grasp what Baron reported. Then, she asked, "No wonder it took me so long to be found then. I was here in another country."
"Yes, but having searched for you in Southern Alfar with no results landed me here," Baron narrated. He returned to sitting before Gwen and shared, "A few months ago, I heard stories of a rogue group targeting Port Leon. They happen to mention that Port Leon's luna had purple eyes."
"That caught my attention. So, I joined the Shadowcloaks. I easily climbed up to the ranks and purposely did so I could find a way to get you out of this place safely," Baron revealed. "I have asked around and scouted Port Leon in secret."
Baron held Gwen's arms, and said, "I have learned of your sufferings. Despite calling you the luna, I have heard of Port Leon's hatred towards you."
"Weeks ago, when I came to Port Leon to plan out the Shadowcloaks' invasion, I wanted to take you home with me, but it wasn't the time yet," Baron said. "There were too many rogues lurking around me, and taking you out in broad daylight was too risky."
"The escape from the ship was the best solution. It was best that people believe you were already gone," Baron expressed. "With the moonstone blade back inside you, you have been automatically disconnected from Port Leon and linked back to our pack."
"Baron, I caught a fish. We can have this for dinner," suddenly, a brawny man appeared from the cave's entrance. He was tall, with tan skin and dark hair. When Gwen locked eyes with him, she was shocked to see he also had purple eyes.
Gwen's brother looked up to the man and said, "Jacob, Gwen is awake."
"Gwen," Baron got up and introduced, "This is Jacob. He is like us, as you can see. Jacob is one of our gammas. He helped me plan our escape. He was the one who was waiting for you at the sea, by the port."
Jacob seemed like the type that did not speak much. He only nodded in Gwen's way, saying, "I'm glad you are finally awake."
He began cleaning the fish they had caught through a small opening in the cave ahead. Water dripped from the limestone, and Jacob rinsed the fish with it.
Jacob set fire from within the cave. As he began to cook the fish, Gwen and Baron resumed their chat.
"You have been asleep for two days. I guess with your blade being away from you for so long, your body fell into a state of shock. We are not really sure. This was the first time in history that one of us parted with our weapon for so long," Baron revealed.
As Baron shared, Gwen kept staring at the mark on her wrist. She knitted her brows and asked, "How do I get this weapon out of me?"
Her brother did not even fully explain how it worked with his bow and arrow. How did he expect her to know?
"Again, I will teach you when we are on safer grounds," Baron said. He turned to Jacob, and when he saw that the fish was nearly ready, he declared, "For now, it's time to eat. After that, we get ready and leave this place for good."
'Leave this place for good,' Gwen said in her head. She automatically caressed her stomach, her brows knitting at the thought of Theo.
"Your pregnancy should be safe. Your body and your wolf should have protected your child," Baron said, seemingly having read her mind. "Of course, to be sure, we will get a doctor to evaluate you when we arrive in Southern Alfar."
"How - how soon are we going to leave?" Gwen asked.
"Tomorrow morning," Baron answered.
~ Theo ~
Back at Port Leon, Theo and his men had already packed their things and were about to leave the port when suddenly, warriors on watch from the Blue Valley Pack turned up with an elderly woman.
The Blue Valley Pack, the same pack Lucius Darwin used to rule, was now in Theo's command. He had warriors from Port Leon manning the pack and maintaining peace and order.
"Alpha Theo, we are very sorry, but this old woman is very insistent. She wanted to see you badly," the warrior named Caleb said.
"Who is she?" Theo asked, looking past Caleb.
"This is Helen Bardin, Alpha Theo. She used to be Luna Gwen's maid when Lucius was alive," Caleb revealed.
Out of nowhere, Helen Bardin ran towards Theo. She asked, "Alpha Theo, please tell me my dear Gwen is still alive! I had heard of the news that she had fallen into the water and was stabbed by a rogue!"
Helen was in tears. She was heaving and looking like she was utterly heartbroken by the news. "Alpha Theo, I heard that you have stopped the search for Gwen's body. Please, don't. She may still be alive. I beg you, Alpha Theo."
Again and again, the old woman kept repeating her plea. She looked so devastated that Theo struggled to interrupt her. Eventually, he said, "I'm sorry, Helen, but the search is over."
"No! No, Alpha Theo," Helen cried louder. "Please try harder -"
"She is gone! We searched for two days, and it has ended now." Madison turned up, revealing, "Gwen is dead! We all felt her connection to the pack snap."
"No!" Helen resisted. She turned to Theo and kneeled before him, imploring, "Please, Alpha Theo. Gwen had already suffered enough. Please do not stop looking for her. My heart feels that she is still alive. I raised her. I know she is not a quitter."
Theo felt the woman's pain. He realized that Helen was an important figure in Gwen's life, only that she had been ordered to remain at the Blue Valley Pack. In contrast, Gwen played the role of Theo's Luna.
He was about to ask the old woman to get up, but his mother suddenly appeared in the crowd.
"How could you ask this of us!" Catherine barked at Helen. Apparently, Theo's mother had remained in the port. "Why should we waste our resources for Lucius' daughter?"
Caroline, Theo's sister, came up behind Catherine. She added, "Gwen is dead, old woman, and perhaps, it is better that way. Gwen reminded all of us of her father every day! With her gone, we can finally move on from the past."
After Caroline spoke, many other pack members at the port echoed her sentiments. Theo attempted to calm his people's harsh words, saying, "Enough, everyone! The search has already been conducted and concluded. There's no need to cause this woman any more strain. She is old and -"
"How can you all say that?" Suddenly, the old woman barked. "Yes, she is Lucius' daughter, but it was not her fault! She never had a choice but to be Lucius' daughter!"
"Lucius was cruel, but Gwen was kind!" Helen screamed. Tears continued to fall down her face when she suddenly revealed, "If it were not for Gwen, many of you would have died today! Don't you know?"
Helen's eyes were red from anger as she revealed, "Don't you know that Gwen secretly gave you all food and water while you were in the dungeons? Don't you know her father tortured her many times for what she did, but she kept doing it anyway! Just so many of you would survive!"
"If anything, she saved you!" Helen cried, rendering everyone speechless.
