~ Theo ~
Five months had passed.
"Gwen." Theo got up from the bed with a heavy heart. He dreamt of Gwen again. That scene on the ship kept replaying in his dreams. Often, he would wake up in the middle of the night.
His athletic face tensed as he threw his body back to the bed. He shut his eyes and thought of the days when Gwen was around. He recalled how she tried so hard to please him.
Gwen often cooked for him and prepared his clothes if he had important meetings. As a medical practitioner, she always excelled, hoping to make him proud as his wife. Even if she was hurting, she tried to smile before Theo, and when they were intimate, he recalled how Gwen's innocent face would blush.
Thinking of Gwen again typically made him return to sleep, but there was something strange about that night. Theo could not rest himself.
"Gwen, are you okay?" he muttered. This time, he walked towards the window of his room and stared at the skies above. He asked, "Moon Goddess, is Gwen still alive? Please, give me a sign, any sign at all."
Over the past few months, Theo has done everything to disprove what has already been proven. Gwen said the baby was his, so he returned to the hospital and asked them to rerun the paternity test. However, with Gwen gone, it was impossible. Instead, the hospital repeatedly assured that there was no mistake in the test.
Theo had also ordered the hospital to redo the test on his sperm. Since he could not have the paternity test redone, he had himself reexamined. Still the same, the hospital gave him the same results. Even in a womb-like environment, his sperm died before being able to fertilize an egg.
The hospital's feedback left Theo angry for two weeks. It affected his leadership, as he imposed stricter training and extended working hours on his warriors.
His actions had resulted in an argument between him, his mother, his sister, and Madison, but he no longer cared about their reactions. He gradually regretted everything, especially his decision to reject Gwen.
As the weeks turned into months, a big part of him no longer cared if Gwen had cheated on him. It was even worse that his rejection was never accepted. He was still tied to Gwen, heart and soul. Without her, Theo felt so incomplete.
"Brody, are you on watch?" He mindlinked while speaking the words.
'Yes, Alpha,' Brody answered.
'I need you here,' Theo said.
After confirming that his beta was on the way, Theo went down to the packhouse's driveway. When he met Brody, he said, "I know my mother had ordered everyone to stop looking for Gwen. My mother thinks I have gone mad, but I can't stop thinking about her, Brody."
"I don't know if this is just the mate bond, but I can't take her out of my head," Theo revealed. "Yes, I felt her connection to the pack break, but at the same time, I feel she is still very much alive!"
"And tonight, something is off because I kept worrying about her," Theo looked up at the skies again and said. "I don't know why, but I do."
"Continue to search, Brody. Continue the search for Gwen in secret," Theo ordered while maintaining his gaze on the moon.
"What about the child she carries, Alpha?" Brody asked.
"I don't know. I guess I'll cross the bridge when I get there," Theo answered. "If I even get there."
"Very well, Alpha," Brody answered. He looked down and said, "I'm sorry you are going through this, Theo. Even I was torn about your situation, but now I wish I had asked you to reconsider the rejection ceremony and give your marriage a chance."
"It wasn't your fault, Brody. It was all my decision," Theo softly said. "My choices, mine to regret."
Brody followed Theo's gaze. He remarked, "If the child she carries is yours, Alpha, and if Gwen were alive, then she should be giving birth around this time. Alpha heirs reach full term in six months."
Theo winked. His heart suddenly ached, and he rested his hand on his chest. He wondered, "Is Gwen giving birth?"
~ Gwen ~
Meanwhile, in another country, Gwen was taking deep breaths. Beads of sweat had formed on her forehead as she pushed her hardest.
"Urrgghh!" She screamed.
"The baby is coming out, Gwen. We are almost there. I can see the head. You can't stop now. You can do this," Juliet said. She and another local midwife were helping Gwen deliver her baby at home.
Gwen felt her contractions again, and she gave it a mighty push. "Aarrgghh! Ugghhh!"
"And the baby is out!" Juliet announced.
"Hwah! Hwah!" A baby's loud cry echoed in the room.
From where Gwen lay, she could hear her mother crying for joy. Her baby cried aloud until, finally, Juliet rested the little one on Gwen's chest.
"Congratulations, it's a baby boy!" Juliet said with a big smile. "He is so handsome. His father must be very handsome too -"
Her mother stopped. She said, "I'm sorry, Gwen. I did not mean to make any reference to Theo."
Gwen simply smiled. Tears stained her face, and she was happy to see this cute little pup on her chest. She caressed the boy's head and said, "It's okay, Mom. And yes, Theo is very handsome. They have the same hair. He will probably have the same features as his father."
The pup had now hushed his cries. Gwen kissed his head and said, "I'm sorry, Baby. I couldn't stay with your father, but I'll fill you with love and play the role of both a father and mother to you."
"He not only has you," Juliet implied. "He has us, your father and your brother, and an entire pack who love him."
The mother and daughter adored the little one for some time until Juliet asked, "What shall we name him, Gwen?"
"I have already thought about the name. I shall call him Ian," Gwen said proudly. "Ian Erh - I mean, Ian Allard."
"Ian," Juliet echoed. "It's a beautiful name."
"I love you, baby Ian. It's me, your mom," Gwen said while caressing her baby's back.
Suddenly, Ian yawned and, with it, he opened his eyes, revealing his green-colored orbs. When Gwen saw this, she gasped and remarked, "Mom, his eyes aren't purple like ours. He has the same eyes as Theo. What does it mean?"
Juliet stayed calm. She responded, "It happens too, especially when you are mated to another werewolf line. It means that his fate is not within our pack."
Gwen's brows met as she clarified, "His fate is not within our pack?"
"Yes, but that's alright. Our pack will still love Ian. His eyes doesn't change his lineage," Juliet described. "Don't worry. That's the way the Moon Goddess works. She plans for our lives, but it doesn't mean we can't change it."
Juliet caressed Ian's cheek and said with a smile, "We simply need to protect him and change his fate."
Gwen gulped. She wondered, 'Is it really that easy to defy fate?'
