                    ~ Gwen ~
Gwen kissed her son after tucking him into bed that night. She smiled as she ran her fingers through Ian's hair. Softly she said, "You are so handsome, Baby."
She reached for his hand and pecked his knuckles, saying, "Mommy loves you."
A light knock on the door made Gwen turn. It was Baron, her brother. He asked, "Are you considering introducing him to his father?"
Gwen paused. She looked back at Ian and answered, "How can I? Theo doesn't even want to recognize him."
"Good," Baron said. "He is not going anywhere near Northern Alfar."
Gwen pulled the blanket over her son. She got up and faced her brother, saying, "School will start next week, so we will stay in Cada City every weekday from now on."
"Of course," Baron agreed. "Jacob is going to watch over the two of you. I heard that patients are growing?"
Gwen and her brother continued their talk in the second-floor hallway of the packhouse. She replied, "It has been increasing."
"You need to be careful," Baron reminded.
"Don't worry. I am being careful. No one will figure out how my patients are being cured," Gwen turned to her brother and proudly said, "This is what I want to do, Baron. This is what makes me happy - helping others. That's why I worked hard to be a doctor."
"I understand and support you, Gwen, but I just want to ensure you remain safe," Baron pointed out. "Especially since you and Ian are living alone in Cada City."
"Thank you, brother," Gwen answered.
Gwen recalled how, six months after giving birth to Ian, she decided to resume her medical internship. It was tough because Baron had to fake many of her documents. All her academic achievements were in Gweneth Darwin's name.
She had to take several achievement tests to pick up where she left off, but because Gwen excelled in all the exams, she secured a residency spot at Cada General Hospital. From then on, everything went fast. The doctors were so amazed at Gwen's ability to analyze medical problems that they eventually allowed her to treat patients after two years of residency.
When she miraculously treated patients, she was officially given the license to be a werewolf doctor in Southern Alfar. It took only four years for Gwen to become recognized as an official doctor. After another two years of practice, she has become widely known as the werewolf medical doctor of Cada City.
She had become so prominent that patients from all over the country had visited her. At first, her family was worried about the world discovering her secret ability, but Gwen had devised a method to ensure that the treatment was given in secret. This way, no one would truly know how patients were miraculously healing.
Of course, aside from her medical records, Gwen had to belong to a supposed pack not connected to the purple-eyed werewolves. The good thing was, this was already in place. Her father, George, had long registered a bogus pack name, which they called the Lilac Pack. Everyone from the Purple-Eye Pack who wanted to work in the city was registered in Lilac Pack.
Thankfully, in Southern Alfar, packs did not necessarily stay within their territories anymore. The South was more civilized and open-minded than the North. They even have a few humans working in the nation. Gwen had many co-workers from different packs at Cada City, only to work at the capital.
"Promise you'll come to see me," Gwen pleaded.
"Of course, Mom and I will take turns seeing you at least twice a week," Baron said before offering Gwen an embrace.
"Thank you, Baron. You are the best brother ever," Gwen teased.
A growl escaped Baron's lips. He said, "I am the only brother you have!"
Monday came fast.
Baron and Jacob accompanied Gwen to Cada City. Because Gwen was rushing for work, her brother brought Ian to school while Jacob drove her to the hospital. When Gwen arrived at her clinic, there was already a long queue of patients.
"Good morning, Doctor!"
"Good to see you, Doctor."
"Good morning, everyone. Sorry to keep you waiting," Gwen greeted. Jacob followed behind her. Sometimes, he acted as her assistant, more than just a bodyguard.
Whenever Jacob was around, the nurses blushed at the sight of him. Who could blame them? Jacob looked amazing with all those muscles. Plus, he was fairly good-looking, only that he was rather serious. Gwen, on the other hand, was used to seeing Jacob around. Being Baron's best friend, she treated Jacob like a second brother.
"Let me help you out today, Weneth," Jacob offered.
So, Jacob prepared coffee or tea for the patients instead of Gwen's assistant.
When the first patient entered Gwen's office, she offered coffee or tea, and depending on their medical condition, she provided sweeteners.
Gwen placed two bottles before her table and said, "We have brown sugar and monk fruit cubes. If you have diabetes, please choose monk fruit."
"Doctor, you are so kind. I think you are the only physician around here that offers coffee and tea," the patient said with a smile.
Gwen smiled back and greeted, "You are Fria, right? What can I do for you?"
Fria, the patient, was mixing monk fruit cubes into her tea when she explained her condition. She said, "Doctor, I have a cyst in my right breast. I'm scheduled for an operation, but I have heard such great things about you. I considered seeing you first."
Gwen and the patient had a long talk about cysts and cancer. She gave Fria tips on improving her health, a list of foods she should avoid, and prescribed medication and supplements. After that, Gwen said, "It's essential that you see me daily this week. After this week, we can have a weekly visit instead."
She watched the patient finish her tea, and then Fria said, "Thank you, Doctor. I hope you are the miracle doctor who can cure me."
Gwen smiled and said, "I pray to the Moon Goddess above, but we must work together, and you must follow my every instruction. You must see me every day."
After bidding goodbye to the patient, Gwen's assistant entered. She was nervous when she said, "Doctor, you have a very important visitor."
"Who?" Gwen asked with a frown. "A patient?"
"No, Doctor Weneth, someone powerful!" The assistant repeated. "He is so powerful, I am lost for words!"
Gwen frowned. She inquired, "Did this powerful person get past security?"
By security, she meant Jacob.
"Yes, but he is more powerful than Jacob, and he is here to see you," the assistant said.
Somehow, Gwen felt edgy already, thanks to how her assistant described her visitor. However, since Jacob did not enter to give her any warning, she assumed it was safe. She nodded and ordered, "Let the powerful visitor in."
Soon, the special guest entered her office. At the sight of him, Gwen's eyes widened in disbelief. After the astonishment, she found herself standing and bowing to the man. She had goosebumps all over as she greeted him, "Your Highness. What an honor to meet you in person!"
Standing before Gwen was Alexander Hazma, the werewolf king of Southern Alfar. He questioned, "Doctor Weneth Allard, are you the miracle doctor they talk about?"
Gwen's lips trembled as she replied, "Y - yes, My King. I am Doctor Weneth Allard."
The king stared into her eyes and revealed, "As your king, I have a favor to ask, one that you must obey, and of course, I will repay you handsomely for your help."
"My brother has fallen ill of an unknown disease, and I want you to treat him," the king revealed.
Yet again, Gwen's skin crawled. Her heart almost leaped out of her chest when she clarified, "Your Highness, you wouldn't be referring to your brother in Northern Alfar, wouldn't you?"
"In fact, he is the only brother I have, Doctor," the king said. "I need you to see my brother in Northern Alfar. He is King Arthur Hazma."
'Oh, no,' Gwen said. How can she tell the king that she had no desire to return to the country that gave her so much pain?
