"What's the matter? I'll pay anything, any amount," King Alexander said.
"My King, it's just that... I have a son, and I can't leave him," Gwen reasoned, but at the back of her head, she was screaming, 'What if I see Theo? I can't go back to Northern Alfar!'
"I can have my people watch your son. He can live in the palace if that's what it takes to make you go," the king answered. "Please, Doctor Weneth."
"It is no secret how the North and Southern Alfar had separated. The misunderstanding between us brothers had gone too far, affecting the nation that used to be one," the king described. "This may be my only chance at reuniting our lands, if not, at least connecting with my brother."
"He is family, and I desire to be his brother again," King Alexander said. "Don't you have a family, Doctor? To be separated from your family is probably the greatest pain one has to bear."
Gwen was lost for words. The king's words touched her. If anyone, she would know better about the pains of being away from family. Besides, was she even allowed to say no to the King of Southern Alfar?
"I'll give you all the security and escort you need. You will fly into Northern Alfar in the royal jet and will not have to go through the hassle of border screening, etc. You will go straight to the capital and to the castle, where you will meet my brother," the king explained. "Please, tell me, what would it take for you to see Arthur?"
Because Gwen was speechless, the king suddenly attempted to kneel, saying, "Do I have to kneel before -"
"No, no. No, Your Highness. Please, don't," Gwen said, helping the king up again.
She stepped back and thought deeply.
Port Leon was two hours away from the capital by car. Maybe she wouldn't see Theo, not unless he would see the king, but what are the chances of that?
Gwen took a deep breath and answered, "Okay, Your Highness, I agree, but I have conditions."
"Name it," the king said happily.
"I will bring my own guards, too," Gwen said. "And, ah -"
Well, since she was naming her conditions, she might as well be bold, right? Gwen gulped and revealed, "The remote areas of Southern Alfar, namely, Powel and Freyville, they need medical help, My King -"
Gwen's words were interrupted by the king's laugh. He said, "I also heard that the miracle doctor had a soft heart. Do you wish to send medical supplies to these towns?"
With a smile, Gwen nodded. She said, "Yes, Your Highness."
"That can be arranged. In any case, it is supposed to be my duty, and I thank you for making me aware - making me see where I had lacked in supporting my country," King Alexander said. "And about the trip, my brother needs immediate medical attention. Will you be able to fly to Northern Alfar in two days? Please."
Gwen gasped. Two days was such short notice, and any medical treatment required at least one week for her special ability to work, but with the king pleading before her, she felt compelled to agree. She reluctantly said, "Okay, two days."
King Alexander suddenly bowed before her. He said, "Your country owes you, and I owe you. Thank you, Doctor Weneth."
Later that evening, they all returned to the Purple-Eye Pack instead of going home to Gwen's apartment in Cada City.
After resting Ian in bed, the Allard family gathered in the living room, scolding Gwen for her decision.
"How could you accept it, Gwen? What would the king do if you rejected his request? I doubt he would put you in prison," Baron growled while walking back and forth.
"No, King Alexander would not put Gwen to prison. He is a good king," Gwen's father, George, said. "I respect him for his wishes of peace and good leadership."
"While I agree with you, Baron, I love our king!" George looked at everyone in the family and said, "I think it would be such a disrespect to disobey the king when his wishes have good intentions."
"That's also true," Juliet remarked.
"Besides, Gwen's refusal might alert the people around her. People would start asking why Gwen would refuse such an honorable request," George pointed out.
"I also considered that, since I will be going straight to the capital, I won't see Theo. It will be fine," Gwen concluded. "But I will have to leave Ian behind. The treatment plan is always at a minimum of one week."
"What about your other patients?" Juliet asked with concern.
"They will have to wait, Mother," Gwen concluded.
"No, don't do that. I'll help. We can have a video call during your clinic hours. To control the number of people coming in, we can limit patients and only entertain those critically ill," Juliet suggested. "George and I can stay with Ian for a while. The beta can watch over the pack for a week."
"And I guess this means that Jacob and I are coming with you for a week," Baron concluded, his arms crossed against his chest.
"Yes," Gwen confirmed. "And we are leaving in two days."
"What? Two days!" Baron shook his head and said, "We will need a lot of contact lenses."

"It wasn't her! It wasn't her, Brody!" Theo angrily barked the second he entered his office at the packhouse.
Theo had made the long journey to the human territories. He had to go through strict scrutiny by the leaders of the human lands just so he could enter and search for Gwen, but when he met the woman his men thought was Gwen, it was a major letdown.
The woman was not Gwen. The worst part was that she was a human! They had the same hair and body build, but the human only wore contact lenses to look like she had purple eyes!
"I'm sorry, Alpha Theo. My contacts confirmed it was her," Brody said, bowing his head.
Theo punched his table and cleared the contents of his desk, growling. After that, he stared out the window of his room. He took deep breaths, his body tensed, and said, "Maybe my mother is right. Maybe I had gone mad."
He gulped and added, "Maybe I should just accept the fact that she is gone."
Silence stretched between Brody and Theo for minutes. Eventually, Theo turned to his beta and said, "I should stop this madness and focus on my alpha duties."
When Brody said nothing, Theo asked, "Is there anything urgent for me?"
"Yes, Alpha," Brody answered. "King Arthur Hazma wishes to see you. As you know, he has been sick for some time. He is worried that he might pass away, and since he has no heir, he is deciding who to give the crown to."
"I have no desire to be king. I can't bear children. I will also have no heir to offer the nation," Theo said.
"All the same, Alpha. The king wants to see you," Brody answered.
Theo sucked in a deep breath and replied, "Very well. I will see him next week."
