~ Gwen ~
"Tea, Your Highness," Gwen offered to King Arthur.
"You know, Doctor Weneth, I feel so much better," Arthur said, accepting the tea. "My muscles are not aching anymore, and I find it better to breathe today. And it's only been five days since my treatment! You truly are a miracle doctor! What are in those supplements you gave me?"
"You also drank your medication, Your Highness. It's not just the supplements," Gwen reminded the king while she sat on her chair. Arthur had muscle pains and low blood pressure, so she also gave the king medication to address the symptoms. Aside from his oral drugs, she had imposed doable exercises the king could accomplish in bed.
Gwen had also requested some laboratories for the king. Initial findings had shown that his organs were failing, but the reasons were strangely unknown. It was unfortunate, but Gwen could still cure him. The only problem was that King Arthur required more than one week of medical intervention, which meant she would need to see him again.
The good news was that the treatment was working. When Gwen came to the castle, the king was almost bedridden, but after three days, he started to walk around. On the fourth day, Arthur roamed his room and the hallways. Today, they were going to attempt to go into the garden.
"How is -" King Arthur paused, hesitating. "How is Alexander?"
Gwen had noticed this from day one. It was clear to her that King Arthur wanted to know more about his brother, but why didn't he just call King Alexander if he wanted to ask?
It was no secret that their relationship had been broken, but Gwen never knew why. She was curious, though, but they were royals. It wasn't in her business to pry.
"King Alexander is doing great, Your Highness. Although I had only met him twice, the people of Southern Alfar love him," Gwen replied with a smile.
"Has he found a mate yet?" Arthur asked.
"No, I believe not, Your Highness, but he had initiated several mating balls in Cada City. I'm afraid our king is not yet destined to meet his mate," Gwen answered.
She noticed Arthur frowning. He mumbled, "It would have been easier if he had found a mate."
'Oh, boy. Now, I am truly curious,' Gwen said in her head. 'I wonder what had happened between them?'
Just as the king voiced his mind. Gwen remembered something. She looked at the king and inquired, "Your Highness, why haven't I seen your queen?"
"Oh." Arthur had finished his tea. He gave the cup to Jacob before replying, "My Dearest wife, Hazel, is taking over my role. She is traveling from one pack to another to check on their needs."
"I did not tell her that a doctor from Southern Alfar would be coming to see me because -" Arthur quietly said, "My wife and Alexander are not on good terms. She does not want me to get involved with my brother."
"But I was desperate," Arthur revealed. "I did not want to die yet. I may be over eighty years old, but my heart is still young, and of course, I am still good-looking. Haha."
Gwen laughed with the king. She could tell that he was a good person inside. Whatever caused the misunderstanding between him and Alexander many years ago, she certainly hoped they could resolve it.
Yes, King Arthur may be older, but werewolves generally age slowly after turning twenty-five. Many have lived for over a hundred years. The king still looked like he was in his late thirties. If not for his illness, he would have looked much younger.
Addressing Arthur's earlier remark, Gwen asked, "But what happens if your wife finds out that King Alexander sent me?"
Arthur tapped on Gwen's shoulder, saying, "My dear child. When she finds out, I'll be all better, right? Then, she would forgive me for my choices."
Gwen smiled. She nodded and said, "I suppose you are right, Your Highness."
She got up and proposed, "It's time to give your heart some exercise. Let's walk around, shall we?"
"Oh, dear," the king sighed.
Gwen laughed, but nonetheless, she forced him out of the bed. Jacob aided the king in his walk around the castle while Gwen conversed with him. Baron followed with two of the royal guards.
Around three in the afternoon, they had made it to the garden behind the castle. Beta Ivor came to find them, saying, "My King, your requested guests have arrived. I have sent them to their quarters to settle their belongings. I have told them about your dinner request."
"Thank you, Ivor," the king said. Turning to Gwen, Arthur apologized, "I'm sorry, Dr. Weneth. I won't be inviting you for this dinner. It's a matter of security."
"Of course, I understand." Gwen put a hand on her chest and revealed, "I also have an online date with my son."
"Oh, lovely, yours and Jacob?" the king asked. "I—um. I figured you have a special thing going on."
Gwen was shocked!
She snapped at Jacob, and the latter paled. Jacob coughed profoundly and answered, "No, Your Highness. Gwen and I are like brothers and sisters."
"Ah." The king made a face and said to Gwen, "I could have sworn Jacob looks at you with adoration."
Gwen gasped. Yet again, she eyed Jacob in shock. On the other hand, he shook his head, mindlinking her, 'I don't know what he is talking about, Gwen.'
'What the fuck is that, Jacob?' Behind Gwen, Baron mindlinked with both of them. 'Gwen?'
'There is nothing, okay! There is nothing!' Gwen linked back to her brother.
While the three of them were arguing through mindlink, the king said, Anyway, let's have that talk later, Doctor Weneth. I need to prepare to see my guests. Thank you again, Doctor, and I'll see you again tomorrow."
Ivor escorted the king back to his quarters, leaving the three: Gwen, her brother, and Jacob in the garden.
"You have a thing for my sister, Jacob?" Baron huffed and raised his chest to Jacob."
"You know that's not true, Baron. I would not lie to you," Jacob replied.
Tension was building between them, and Gwen had no choice but to intervene. She yelled, "Stop! There is nothing, okay? Jacob and I are like siblings!"
"There better not be," Baron warned as he stepped back.
Jacob smirked. His big frame also retreated, but he suggested, "Eventually, Gwen will find someone to be with, and you'll have to back off, Big Brother."
Gwen bit her lip. She raised a brow and wondered, 'Will I ever?'
~ Theo ~
Meanwhile, on the sixth floor of Dradhold Castle, Theo had just settled in his quarters. He had come to the capital upon King Arthur's request. As Theo stepped out of his room, he suddenly caught a whiff of a scent that he had not smelled in many years.
"Lilac," Theo muttered, and his heart raced as he began to walk, following the direction of where the scent came from. The first thing that came into his head was, "Gwen."
