~ Gwen ~
Gwen and the king’s head snapped in the direction of the voice.
A tall woman stood two meters away, exuding an air of authority and grace. At first glance, Gwen was in awe of the woman’s strikingly beautiful face.
This woman had high cheekbones and a smooth, alabaster complexion radiating a gentle, ethereal glow. Her ash blonde hair was tied behind her head, and her eyes, a piercing shade of emerald green, were framed by long lashes.
She wore a well-fitted blazer and matching trousers. A shawl draped around her shoulders, adding to her elegance.
“Ah, Hazel, my love.” The king raised his arms and said, “Surprise! I am feeling all better, thanks to Doctor Weneth here.”
“Doctor Weneth?” the woman asked, raising her eyebrow. She walked hastily toward the king and said, “I’m worried for you, my love.”
‘So, this was the queen,’ Gwen mused. ‘And rightfully so. She looks very refined.’
Hazel eyed Gwen before whispering to the king, “We don’t know her. We have been to many doctors and found no cure -”
“She isn’t a nobody,” the king reasoned.
Yes, the queen was whispering, but Gwen could hear her clearly. Hazel didn’t actually make much effort to lower her voice.
“Alexander sent her,” Arthur revealed, shocking Hazel.
Hazel turned to Gwen, wide-eyed. Then she glanced back at the king, saying, “How do we know that Alexander has good intentions? You know what happened in the past!”
Oh, boy. Gwen was curious again now. But even with her interest, she stayed still, waiting for them to finish talking. Baron and Jacob had already returned. They both had puzzled expressions, so she linked them, ‘It’s the queen. They are arguing.’
“Look at me, Hazel! This is a testament that we can trust Alexander now. Maybe he has changed. Maybe he truly means well now. He would not make this effort if that were not the case,” the king said to his wife. He took a full turn, adding, “A few days ago, I was stuck in bed and weak, but now, I have regained some strength.”
“See clearly, my wife. Would you rather that I die soon? This is great progress, and we should be thankful to the Moon Goddess above for bringing the miracle doctor of Southern Alfar to me,” Arthur added. “Be happy for me -”
“Of course, I am happy to see you standing and walking.” Hazel embraced Arthur, saying, “It’s a miracle that I have been praying to the Moon Goddess. I just want to make sure nothing goes wrong. And learning you let a stranger enter our home without me knowing alarmed me, Arthur. You should have told me!”
“You would not have agreed if you had known the help was coming from Alexander,” the king said.
Next, the king and queen were talking with their eyes. Gwen concluded that they were mindliking with each other. Hazel cried, and so did the king.
Gwen had probably stood there for five minutes before the royal couple finally turned to her. Hazel was the first to approach Gwen. She said, “The truth is, I have heard about your name, Dr. Weneth Allard, but I was reluctant to reach out. I guess I am also angry with myself for never going to the South to find you.”
“But I hope you understand. We have seen so many doctors, and some caused more harm than good to Arthur, so I would like to inspect the medications that you gave my husband,” the queen said.
Gwen remained calm. Hazel wasn’t the first to question her treatment methods—many had before—but she was self-assured. Gwen adhered strictly to the medical texts for werewolves. The workings of her ability stayed a secret, as she and Jacob controlled the treatment process.
A few minutes later, they were inside the king’s quarters, and Hazel was inspecting the medications individually.
“The drugs are the same as other previous doctors,” Hazel remarked as she held two bottles. Then she reached for the supplements and read, “Starroot Extract. Sourced from the roots of the Starroot plant, which enhances cellular regeneration and supports liver and kidney health.”
She reached for another supplement and read, “Silverfern Fronds. Harvested from ferns that thrive in the forests of Elaris. These fronds contain healing properties that boost the body’s natural ability to repair cardiac and respiratory tissues.”
Hazel gazed at Gwen and asked, “How did you get these? I tried to send men to Elaris to acquire this healing supplement, but I was never given a priority.”
“I had built my contacts, Your Highness. I have a supplier from Elaris who prioritizes my orders,” Gwen revealed.
“Even then, I don’t think this is the ultimate miracle cure for Arthur’s condition,” Hazel remarked.
“Oh, you are mistaken, Your Highness.” Gwen smiled and explained, “The miracle cure comes from the combination of treatments: the medication, the supplements, following a strict diet, exercising, getting enough sunlight and moonlight, having the will to live, and having the right doctor.”
“Cutting one out will reduce the efficacy of the treatment,” Gwen added.
Hazel remained still in her stance. She looked at the bottles in her hand and then at the king.
“Love, I am the living proof! I feel better!” Arthur declared.
All of a sudden, the queen cried. Hazel dropped the bottles on the bed and covered her face. Her shoulders shook with her sobs. She revealed, “I’m sorry. It’s just that we have been to so many healers. We even tried human doctors, but nothing worked! So, I was skeptical.”
When she withdrew her hands, Gwen noticed Hazel’s face was streaked with tears. Hazel then approached Arthur and enveloped him in a tight embrace.
“This is truly a miracle!” Hazel expressed. “Thank you, Moon Goddess! Thank you!”
~ Theo ~
On the drive back to Port Leon, Theo’s mind wandered back to Gwen. His fists clenched at the memory of their encounter.
No wonder he wasn’t able to find Gwen. She was wearing contact lenses, and apparently, she was hiding in plain sight! He never thought she would simply be in Drad City! Who expected that?
‘He is the father of my child! He is my lover!’ Gwen’s words rang in his head, and his heart broke into a million pieces.
‘Fuck this mate bond! Fuck it!’ Theo screamed in his head. ‘I should have rejected Gwen, and it would be over!’
Theo was so outraged that he was determined to retaliate! If Gwen had a lover, why can’t he?
‘It’s time,’ he thought. Although he had said this over and over again, he earnestly concluded it was finally time to move on.
His men were right? Why go after Gwen? She wasn’t worth it.
When Theo arrived at Port Leon, the first person he sought was Madison. He found her at the training grounds with his sister, Caroline.
“Theo, you are back!” Madison smiled. She ran to Theo and wrapped her arms around his neck.
Theo was unresponsive. He sighed and said with no emotions, “Madison Emry, will you marry me and be my luna?”
Madison’s mouth fell open in shock. She blinked before asking, “Are you serious?”
“Yes,” Theo answered.
“We can hold the ceremony in the next full moon,” Theo revealed.
“Next full moon?” Madison asked eagerly. “Next month?”
“Yes, next month,” Theo said with a blank face.
“Yes! Yes!” Madison screamed. She cried and crashed her body against Theo’s solid chest. She said, “Finally. Finally!”
