"Gwen." Theo's heart felt like being squeezed by a hand when he added, "Gwen must be Ian's mother, whom he calls Weneth."
The paternity test result added another layer of confusion. Theo wondered, 'So what happened to my sperm test? The one that said I could not get anyone pregnant.'
Nonetheless, Theo could no longer deny it.
Ian was his.
His wolf claimed it, and now, two paternity tests confirmed it.
"I should have known," Theo said under his breath. All that time, his wolf was calling Ian his, and he, being an alpha, should have already acknowledged it. How could he have ignored the intuition of his wolf?
The sperm test created doubt in him that he swore if anyone had tampered with it, they would pay.
"I'm shocked, Alpha," Rollin said. His mouth hung open, but he found no words to say.
Theo's other hand balled into a fist. He ordered, "Ask the hospital for an explanation. If they say my sperm is not healthy enough to get anyone pregnant, then why this?"
"I want—" Theo's growl cut him off. He was about to demand that everyone in the hospital be fired, but he knew that was an unreasonable request.
Theo remembered that Doctor Hanson initiated the paternity test between him and Ian. So, instead, he instructed his gamma, "Ask Doctor Hanson if he knows anything."
"Yes, Alpha," Rollin acknowledged before bowing his head. Then, Theo hurriedly turned his back, but as he did, Rollin asked, "Where are you going, Alpha?"
"To my son," Theo answered swiftly. "Right now, what matters to me is to be with Ian."
While Theo paced into the private room that accommodated Ian, his chest tightened. He muttered, "Six years. Six fucking years."
He had missed so many precious years with Ian, which overwhelmed Theo with sadness and anger. If only he had found Gwen back then, maybe things would have worked out, and the truth would have surfaced—or would it?
Theo was halfway to Ian's room when he remembered how he and his people despised Gwen. In fact, to this day, many of his pack members believed Port Leon was better off without Gwen, especially his mother and sister.
Even with the revelation that Gwen was the mysterious woman who had assisted them during their captive days, it did not change the fact that she was Lucius Darwin's daughter. And well, of course, there was the accusation of her cheating on Theo.
"Damn it!" Theo suddenly slammed his fist against the wall, his anger fueled by the memory of how he had called Gwen a slut and swiftly believed she had betrayed him.
Theo's outburst stirred murmurs among the hospital staff. He glanced around and said, "I'm sorry. I was just dealing with some anger. Please, go back to your work."
'Get a grip, Theo. Maybe you should take Ian home instead,' he told himself as he walked out of the hallway.
When Theo finally made it to Ian's room, he found the little guy enjoying the last piece of beef ribs. Sauce smeared across Ian's face, which made him look like a mess, but Theo found it adorable.
"I'm Sorry, Alpha Theo. I ate your share of ribs. Can you forgive me?" Ian asked.
The corners of Theo's eyes were starting to water, but he sniffed his emotions away and said, "That's alright. What's mine is yours, Ian. How do you feel about coming home with me?"
"To your house?" Ian asked in surprise.
When Theo nodded, Ian replied, "I'd love to!"
Heartbeats later, Theo and Ian arrived at Port Leon's packhouse.
Ian was now dressed in a new outfit, brought to the hospital by Theo's gamma, Dunken. Additionally, five more shopping bags were filled with clothes and shoes.
Theo led Ian straight to the room Gwen had once occupied. He said to the pup, "This is your room. I already had asked the maids to clean it, and I hope you like it."
"Wow, it's nice," Ian complimented. "And your packhouse is nice too, Alpha Theo. It's not -"
Ian paused. He smiled and said, "Your house is awesome."
There it was. Theo sensed it. Ian was holding back information again. It did not matter, though; the truth of their relationship outweighed the mysteries revolving around Gwen and Ian.
"I'm glad you like it," Theo said, leaning on the door frame.
While the maids arranged Ian's new clothes and shoes, Theo requested, "Ian, I have something to show you. Would you come with me for a moment?"
Ian nodded and said, "Sure."
When the pup raised his hand to hold Theo's, he did not hesitate to take it. Theo felt it again, that familial bond between them, telling him that his blood was running through Ian's veins.
Theo brought Ian to his office. There, he let his son sit on the chair, and Theo sat across from him. He fell silent for a moment, but later, he asked, "What do you know about your father, Ian?"
Ian's green orbs stared into Theo's eyes. He hesitated but said, "I don't know if I could tell you."
"It's okay, Ian. You can trust me," Theo assured him.
"Mommy said my dad abandoned us. She said they were forced to marry, so it did not work between them," Ian said before making a face and shrugging. "I don't know much, but she said he is a warrior like you."
"I see," Theo answered. Given their painful past, Theo was surprised Gwen had not declared him dead before Ian. Abandoned? Yeah, Theo supposed he did, but he had his reasons!
Theo let out a heavy sigh. He leaned back in his seat and shut his eyes. More details about the past came rushing back, and he only had himself to blame.
"Is there something wrong, Alpha Theo?" Ian asked.
Theo opened his eyes and forced a smile. He said, "I have something to show you."
Getting up, he opened his bookshelf to reveal an in-room safe. After entering the passcode, he took out a picture of him and Gwen, one which was taken during their wedding.
Theo returned to his seat and slowly showed the photo to Ian. He asked, "Is she your mother, Weneth?"
Ian moved closer, his eyes rounding. He grabbed the picture and focused on the image. He softly said, "This is my Mommy, and this is -"
"Me," Theo filled in. "That's me and... my wife."
"Ian, I'm sorry." Theo found it hard to hold back the tears at that point. He declared, "I made a mistake, a big mistake -"
Without giving Ian a chance to speak, he embraced the pup and revealed, "I am your father, Ian, and you are my son."
"Many things happened in the past between me and your Mom that broke us apart, including mistakes and unfavorable circumstances." Theo's tears continued to flow as he added, "But I'm ready now, and I know more truth than before. Will you forgive me, Son? Please forgive me."
"I knew it!" Ian said while sobbing in Theo's arms. "I knew you were my dad."
He embraced Theo tighter and added, "You really are my dad!"
"Yes, Theo confirmed. "I am your father, and from now on, you will never leave my side."
~ Gwen ~
Gwen's party encountered a few speed bumps along the road, which led them to arrive at the Silver Creek Pack late at night. The pack's alpha, Vander, met them at the border's entrance.
"I'm very sorry to disturb you this late at night, but reports have led us to believe that my son was taken in your lands," Gwen said first. "My son, Ian, was kidnapped -"
"Green eyes, brown hair?" Alpha Vander asked. "We recently rescued a boy from a group of rogues."
"Yes! Yes!" Gwen hastily approached the alpha and showed him a picture of Ian. Behind her, Jacob and Baron were expressing words of relief.
"Maybe they have Ian," Baron said.
"Goddess, thank you!" Jacob said.
"This is the boy! So you are his mother?" Alpha Vander inquired.
"Yes, I am his mother," Gwen answered. "He was kidnapped from Southern Alfar, and we flew up here in search of him."
"We are glad that we found him. Don't worry, he is safe," Alpha Vander revealed.
"Where is he?" Gwen cried, her heart sprinting with excitement. "I want to see him! I was so worried sick -"
"You'll have to see him tomorrow, though. It's already late, and some roads are blocked toward the highway for security reasons," Alpha Vander said. "Your son is not with us."
"The other day, Alpha Theo of Port Leon came to help us with the rogues. He was the one who saved your son, actually," Alpha Vander said. He brought him to Port Leon for a medical evacuation."
Gwen gasped at the news. Her face turned ghostly white. She repeated, "Theo? Theo has my son?"
Her vision blurred. All the stress and anxiety piled up, and the next thing she knew, she fell into someone's arms, falling unconscious.
"Gwen?"
"Gwen!"
