                    ~ Gwen ~
“I wonder how Theo is treating Ian,” Gwen muttered. This was all going through her mind the entire drive to Port Leon.
When they reached the borders of Theo’s pack, Gwen’s heart raced. This time, she wondered how people would react upon seeing her again. However, to her surprise, the warriors at the entrance did not inspect their car.
She saw how Theo’s beta had pointed to their vehicles, and they were given the free pass from an inspection.
“Ian,” Gwen said. As they drove further into Port Leon, Gwen could feel her son’s emotions. She could tell Ian was excited to see her.
“Gwen, did you already tell King Alexander’s guards to be mindful of what they say?” Baron asked behind the wheel.
She nearly missed answering, focused on her son’s feelings, but she responded without looking at her brother: “Yes, they know. I told them to let us do the talking.”
“I feel him, Baron. I feel Ian,” Gwen said as tears brimmed in her eyes.
“Judging by how you are smiling, I can tell that my nephew is doing well,” Baron remarked. “I’m glad he is fine.”
Although the drive was short, it felt like an eternity to Gwen. The anticipation of seeing her son again after being taken away left her on the edge.
However, as they neared the packhouse, memories of the past began to flood back. She recounted the times when she was Port Leon’s Unloved Luna.
“Pain,” Gwen thought to herself. This place was filled with too many painful memories. She had no reason to stay any longer than necessary. She was determined to get Ian, thank Theo, and leave.
Finally, they arrived at the packhouse. Gwen’s heart immediately raced as soon as Baron pulled the car over. She looked around and acknowledged how so little had changed.
The three-story packhouse still had that rustic charm, but it was designed with a modern twist. Its exterior was crafted with natural stone and reclaimed wood. Still, Gwen noticed that the windows were now more extensive and had tinted glass.
The trees and the lawn around the house were still there, but she observed how they were more well-manicured now than before.
She turned to Jacob, who was sitting next to her. He exited the car first, and she followed quickly.
From the driveway, Gwen’s eyes were fixed on the packhouse’s door, waiting.
Within a second, her heart felt like it would jump out of her chest. She could already detect Theo’s powerful aura from where she stood, and her chest was instantly filled with a swirl of emotions.
Eventually, Theo stepped out, holding Ian with his hand. Gwen felt compelled to lock eyes with her former husband, and the same was true of Theo.
Gwen could not deny how good he looked. Though he wore just a simple gray shirt, it clung perfectly to his well-toned physique, emphasizing every muscular detail. She noticed how his arms seemed even more defined now, and the same could be said with his striking face.
The most remarkable aspect was how naturally Theo appeared to be Ian’s father.
Staring at him now felt different than during their brief encounter in Drad City. Back then, she was in a hurry to escape him, but now she had the luxury of time to really take him in.
Whether she wanted to or not, Gwen felt a powerful attraction building inside her, making it impossible to look away. She had to keep reminding herself that this was the man who refused to acknowledge her as his mate, the same man who had once accused her of being a slut.
“Mommy!” Ian called, and Gwen directed her attention to her son.
A smile spread across her face. She noticed Ian in new clothes that fit him well. She leveled with him and offered her arms, her pup crashing into her chest.
“Ian, thank goddess, you are well,” Gwen cried. She embraced him so tightly, felt his frame, and took a big whiff at her pup. “You are okay. You are okay.”
She kissed his cheek and his forehead and hugged Ian again. “I was so worried sick. Thank you, Moon Goddess, for keeping my son safe.”
“I miss you so much, Mommy,” Ian expressed. Like her, the boy was weeping during their hold. “I was afraid I would never see you again -”
“Sshhh! That will never happen,” Gwen said while pulling away. She held Ian’s arms and declared, “You are the world to me. I will always find my way back to you. I’m sorry this happened to you, Ian.”
“It’s okay, Mommy, I’m okay now,” Ian said, sniffing his tears away.
Behind Gwen, Baron called, “Ian, Buddy!”
“Uncle Baron!” Ian exclaimed. He rushed to his uncle and hugged him tightly. When he noticed Jacob, he also turned to him, crying, “Uncle Jacob!”
While Ian embraced his uncles, Gwen saw the opportunity to talk to Theo. She turned to Theo and immediately met his eyes. She gulped and said, “Thank you, Alpha Theo, for saving my son, having him checked, and caring for him. I - um-”
When she realized she did not have her bag or mobile, she turned to the car before gazing back at Theo. She said, “I’ll pay you for the trouble. I don’t have much, but I simply want to show my gratitude -”
“I saved many people all the time, Gwen. I never asked for anything in return,” Theo pointed out. “Do people still call you Gwen? Or is it Weneth now? Why do you hide your eyes?”
A heavy sigh left her lips. She trembled in responding, “It doesn’t matter, Theo.”
“It matters to me,” Theo answered. He inched closer, making Gwen step back. He asked, “So you have been in Southern Alfar all along?”
Gwen stepped back again because Theo was closing in on her and his scent engulfed her. She raised her hands in an effort to put a distance between them, and her palms landed on his chest. She gulped and answered, “If you don’t mind, I prefer not to answer your questions, Alpha Theo.”
She checked the time and said, “It’s getting late, and Ian and I have to travel back to Stormreach. I know you insist on not getting any compensation, but one day, I will repay the kindness you have shown today - Alpha Theo -”
Gwen gasped because Theo wrapped his arm around her waist. His jaws clenched as he asked, “Why would I need compensation for saving my own son, Gwen?”
‘My own son.’ His words played like a broken record in her head. She mused, ‘Did I hear him right?’
“Excuse me, Theo?” She asked, finally standing her ground. “What did you say?”
Theo glanced at Ian. Then, he diverted his gaze to her, saying, “Let’s discuss this inside.”
“But we need to go,” Gwen answered. However, Theo responded with a firm no. With his warriors surrounding them, she had no choice but to follow Theo inside the packhouse and into his office.
As for her brother, Jacob, and Ian were led into the packhouse’s backyard for some snacks and tea.
Theo led her into his office first. After he closed the door behind him, he stood before Gwen and asked, “How could you keep my son away from me, Gwen?”
“I—I don’t know what you are talking about, Theo,” Gwen responded, trying to show him how firm she was in her answer. She felt goosebumps all over at the way they were standing so close to each other.
“Don’t lie to me, Gwen. I already know. Ian is my son. He is already six years old, Gwen. I felt deprived.” He expressed. “Why had you never tried to tell me? Why had you not returned?”
Theo’s questions instantly made her blood boil. Did she not tell him?
Her lips twitched before she answered, “I’m sorry, Theo. There is clearly a big misunderstanding here. Ian is not your son. Did you forget the DNA test saying you are not the father?”
Tears were threatening to fall as Gwen described, “Did you forget that I was a slut, and that I had spread my legs for other men so that I could possibly remain as your luna?”
“Have you forgotten that you are infertile? How can you be Ian’s father?” She raised, her eyes glowing in anger as she reminded him. “I don’t know why you are suddenly claiming Ian as your son, but do you remember that you said it yourself more than six years ago... Ian is not yours!”
Gwen felt her body expanding in anger. She swore she was about ready to shift when, out of nowhere, Theo embraced her tightly, his arms firm around her waist, and his body crashed against her slender frame.
“Theo?” Gwen protested, attempting to push him away, but Theo pressed her against the door, his body enveloping hers.
The next thing Gwen heard stunned her. Theo pressed his lips to her ear and said, “I’m sorry, Gwen. I’m sorry for everything I have said in the past.”
