                    ~ Gwen ~
"What time is it?" Gwen awoke needing to relieve her bladder. Her eyes were half closed as she rushed to the bathroom, and after returning to Ian's side, she realized she had slept like a baby overnight.
When Gwen rested back beside Ian, she smiled because she could sense the serenity within her son. He was smiling in his sleep, and as Gwen felt his pulse, his heart was beating steadily.
"Are you really that thrilled to meet your father, Ian? It looks like you are dreaming of him," Gwen muttered softly. A big part of her wanted to deny that Theo was his father, but she could feel Ian's happiness. He had just been through the trauma of being kidnapped, and she didn't want to strip away any joy he was feeling.
There were also undeniable things like the connection between Ian and Theo, which she was sure Ian sensed too. Then, there was their wedding photo, a clear proof that Gwen and Theo had been together once.
Gwen turned the bedside table and found the picture. She studied it closely and shook her head. She still couldn't fathom why Theo had held onto it all this time. Sighing, she mumbled, "I really need to talk to him."
Last night, Theo did not return and did not join them for dinner. All she was told was that Theo was attending to something important. He and Gwen did not get to finish their conversation.
"But when I see him, what will I tell him?" Gwen turned to the wall clock and realized it was still four in the morning. She could run to the nearby nature trail to help her think, but was she even allowed to?
Still, she wanted to try. Running always helped her think. She did not bring enough clothes from Cada City, but she at least brought comfortable leggings and rubber shoes.
After getting changed, she exited the room and went to the first floor. When she opened the front door, she was surprised to see Dunken on watch.
Dunken was Theo's Gamma, third in command in Port Leon. He had beautiful almond-colored skin and black hair.
"Good morning, you are awake early," Dunken remarked.
Again, this man was a loyal warrior of Theo, but she did not sense the same animosity he once had for her many years ago. The warm morning greeting was a big surprise. What in the world changed?
"I wanted to take a run. Besides, I slept a lot already," Gwen responded.
She walked out and noticed Dunken following her. She turned to him and asked, "Am I a prisoner? I guess technically I am."
"I have to make sure nothing happens to you," Dunken answered.
Gwen made it to the nature trail's entrance, the same path she used to take whenever she wanted to be alone more than six years ago. She ran, got her heart racing, and at some point, she paused at a certain peak to take a rest and think.
'Theo is Ian's father. I should, at least, agree for him to co-parent my son,' she finally concluded. 'I guess we could stay here for a few days, but we still need to return. Ian needs to go back to school.'
After finally coming to a conclusion, she ran back to the packhouse. Dunken continued to follow her.
"You run fast, Luna," Dunken remarked behind her.
"Please, I'm not your luna anymore," Gwen responded without looking. She continued on the trail until she found the exit and returned to the packhouse.
It was almost six in the morning when she reached the packhouse's entrance. She took a quick glance at Dunken. He gave her a nod, and then she entered the house.
Gwen headed to the kitchen first to quench her thirst. She checked in with her brother and Jacob and discovered they had chosen to sleep in, still exhausted from the days spent searching for Ian.
"Okay, you guys." She said while leaning in the door frame of the small room that accommodated Jacob and Baron. They had double-deck beds and were still lying when she said, "Breakfast is going to be ready soon, so I suggest getting up."
"We are getting up, Gwen," Jacob said. "I'm glad you look better today."
"The way you look tells me you have made up your mind about something," Baron commented after getting up.
"Sort of," Gwen answered. "But I still need to talk to Theo about it."
From where she stood, she heard Theo's voice and the front door open! He was back!
"Speaking of which, I better talk to him now," she said before leaving her brother and Jacob.
Before Gwen could reach the living room, however, she overheard Theo and Dunken talking.
"So you stayed with Madison overnight?" Dunken asked.
"I had to," Theo answered. "It was my fault."
"She will eventually know, Alpha," Dunken said.
"I know," Theo answered. "And Caroline and my mother are always on her side."
Gwen retreated to the nearest column, angered by what she had heard. So, this was the important matter he had to attend to! It was Madison! Theo did not marry Madison, but it seemed they were still in a relationship. Why else would Theo stay overnight with her?
Thoughts flooded her mind again. She wondered if it was okay for Ian to see his father with another woman and how it would affect him. Would Madison treat Ian well if Gwen and Theo agreed on harmonious co-parenting?
But more than anything, Gwen could not deny how the news pierced through her heart. After all, Madison was the reason Theo wanted to divorce her more than six years ago.
'It's just the mate bond,' she convinced herself.
Gwen marched out from her hiding, seething. She ran in the direction of the stairs without acknowledging Theo's presence.
Of course, Theo noticed her. He chased after her as he called, "Gwen? Gwen!"
Ignoring Theo, she continued to climb up the stairs until she found the room she had shared with Ian. She was so upset that the second she saw the wedding photo, she grabbed it, crumpled it, and threw it out the door!
Gwen was about to close the door when Theo picked up the picture and blocked the door with his foot! He growled, "Gwen, why did you throw this picture out?"
"I am going to take a bath now, Theo, leave," Gwen demanded, trying to close the door.
Theo forced the door open. While holding the crumpled picture, he pulled her arm and asked, "Not until you tell me why you threw this out?"
"What's so good about it, Theo? You weren't even smiling at this picture! Did you forget you were forced to marry me," Gwen reminded. "Let me go -"
"Gwen. Gwen!" Theo finally raised his voice, his other hand still holding her arm. He said, "Look at it! Look at it again!"
Because he ordered it, Gwen stared at the photo. Theo described, "I wasn't the only one forced into the marriage. You weren't smiling, either. Let's face it: we were not ready to be husband and wife back then. The circumstance that brought us together was wrong, and the timing was fucking wrong, but it's different now."
'Different?' Gwen looked up to Theo for a second, echoing his last statement in her head. 'How? Because of Ian?'
