                    ~ Gwen ~
'How in the world was I Lucius moneybags?' Gwen wondered. The Purple-Eye Pack was not wealthy. Her father, George, certainly was not a rich alpha.
She took a deep breath and thought, 'Maybe Helen was right. Maybe it meant nothing.'
Gwen looked out the window and admired the streetlights during the night. They were now returning to Port Leon. She and Theo's warriors had dinner in Helen Bardin's home before heading out.
When they finally entered Port Leon, she immediately received a mindlink from her brother.
'Gwen?' Baron said. 'Are you back?'
'Yes, how was border checking? Here at the front, it's very tight,' Gwen inquired.
Her brother hissed through mindlink and answered, 'I think the only way we are getting out of here is using wolfsbane against Theo's men -'
'Oh, my goddess, Baron. How could you even consider that? We are not bad people,' Gwen grumbled through mindlink.
'I'm just saying,' Baron said. 'We are at the hotel where Alexander's guards are being accommodated. You should talk to them. They want to know what to say to the king.'
'Oh, right,' Gwen responded. 'I forgot about them. Hold on, let me ask Dunken where Ian is.'
"Dunken, has Theo advised where my son is?" Gwen inquired.
"They are back at the packhouse, Luna," Dunken responded.
"You have got to stop calling me your Luna," Gwen complained.
Rollin, however, said, "Alpha is going to get mad at us, Luna Gwen."
"Well, anyway, I need to check on the warriors that traveled with us. They are our responsibility,' Gwen said. "My brother is there too."
"If Theo told you that Lucius is not my father, I guess he also told you that Baron is my brother," Gwen added.
The gammas looked at each other. It was Rollin who agreed, "I suppose it's fine."
A short time later, Gwen was at the hotel that housed King Alexander's royal guards.
Gwen was pleased that the southern warriors were accommodated in a four-bedroom suite. So, their stay was quite comfortable, and all their incidentals were billable to Theo.
She also appreciated the privacy given by Dunken and Rollin. They did not come inside but guarded outside the door.
"We are like on vacation, Doctor," Ashton, the leader of the group of royal guards, said.
"Well, I'm glad you are being treated well," Gwen responded. "Has any of Theo's men forced you into saying anything?"
The men laughed in unison. The other warriors were Arlo, Silas, and Rafi. Arlo said, "Yeah, that guy outside, Rollin, tried to get some info, but we did not budge. They can try to scare us, but that won't work on us. Don't worry, Doctor. They won't know we are direct guards of King Alexander, nor will they know that you are our Miracle Doctor."
"We don't know what your relationship is with Alpha Theo. We are curious, but we respect your privacy, Doctor," Silas said. "But how long are we going to stay here?"
"Yes, Doctor." This time, Rafi spoke. "We also need to give the king an update."
Gwen smiled and answered, "I appreciate everyone's cooperation and patience. I'm still working things out with Theo. Please assure the king that we are all safe here. I just need more time."
She did not want to elaborate further. Gwen feared revealing her past to these warriors would open a can of worms she did not want to deal with, especially with her family's secrets.
Gwen considered. Now that Jacob and her brother have established that there was no escaping Theo's territory, her last resort would be to ask King Alexander for help. For now, she would have to try to reason with Theo.
Another thing she had to consider was Ian's feelings. Would Ian agree to leave his father? That was the biggest challenge of all.
'Very well then," Arlo said. "In the meantime, what do we do here?"
"We will do as the king instructed," Ashton proposed. "Which is to protect Doctor Weneth and Ian."
Turning to Gwen, Ashton said, "So, Doctor, you must inform Alpha Theo that starting tomorrow, we will be reporting to his packhouse and offering our security service."
"Okay, I'll do that," Gwen answered. "I don't see why he would object."
After talking with the royal guards, Gwen asked her brother and Jacob for a chat on the suite's balcony. It was there that she told Baron about Helen's revelation.
"Moneybags? I don't know what to say, Gwen," Baron said. "But Lucius was richer than us. No one also asked for ransom. Whoever took you meant to never return you."
"Maybe he really was talking drunk," Jacob suggested.
Gwen shrugged and answered, 'Maybe. I guess we will never know since Lucius is dead."
It was already nine in the evening when Gwen made it back to Port Leon's packhouse. When she entered the living room, it was very quiet.
"Theo?" She called, eyeing the path to his office, but there was no answer.
The maid, Krista, came out to greet Gwen, Jacob, and Baron. She smiled and said, "Alpha Theo, put Ian to sleep. He should be upstairs."
Gwen hurriedly went to find Ian while her brother and Jacob rested in their humble quarters. Her initial instinct was to knock on Theo's bedroom, but he was not there. So, she went to her room, and sure enough, she found Theo and Ian.
The second she opened the door, she gasped. Her heart aching for Ian.
Theo had fallen asleep next to Ian. He was already wearing his tank top and pajamas. Ian was also sleeping beside his father.
Her son wrapped his arm around Theo's waist, and his head rested on his father's chest. Not only that, the pup's left leg was also around Theo's right thigh. Ian was smiling in his sleep, looking contented, while Theo protectively hugged his son with his right arm.
Witnessing this scene, Gwen felt like an outsider, a villain about to break their father-son bond, especially since she was set on leaving Port Leon.
Gwen cautiously lay next to Ian on the other side opposite to Theo. She took deep breaths and looked up at the ceiling, softly asking, "What do I do?"
However, she did not get to answer her own question because she had unknowingly fallen asleep beside Ian.
Hours later.
Gwen was in a dream. In that dream, she was having a romantic moment with a man with no face.
She could see herself smiling and looking at the faceless man with gleaming eyes. Her hands were all over him, feeling his well-defined muscles.
Gwen did not know for how long she allowed herself to be engrossed in that dream, but eventually, her senses awoken her. She realized how the scene was completely inappropriate!
Opening her eyes, she found herself in a daze, gazing at two dazzling green orbs. It took her a moment to realize she was staring at Theo!
She was practically lying on his chest, and their faces were inches apart!
Theo looked down, and she followed his gaze. Her heart almost jumped out of her chest when she saw that her hands were under his shirt, feeling his muscles!
"Oh, my goddess! Theo!" she exclaimed, trying to pull away, but Theo rolled on top of her instead.
His hot breath tickled her face as he said in his bedroom voice, "You weren't complaining when you were groping me, Gwen."
