"Let's walk around some more!" Ian exclaimed the second he saw the packhouse's driveway.
To Gwen, it seemed her son wanted to prolong the time with his father. Although they had a car, Ian insisted on walking further from the packhouse, and they had been doing so for the past half hour. They were simply circling around, just to pass the time.
Theo laughed. He naturally supported his son's wishes. Theo held Ian's hand, and they began walking. However, when they were a meter ahead of Gwen, Ian looked back and stretched his hand to her.
Gwen gulped because they would look like a family, a real family, with his request to hold his other hand.
"Mommy, please," the pup begged, and Gwen was compelled to give in.
When they arrived, it was already late afternoon. Just as they were about to enter the packhouse and get ready for dinner, a car screeched to a sudden stop. Gwen turned to see who it was, and her heart raced as she watched Theo's sister step out of the vehicle.
Caroline Erhart was the last person Gwen wanted to see. If anyone, Theo's sister hated her the most.
"Theo! What is the meaning of this?" Caroline seethed towards them. "So, this woman is alive after all! And what is she doing here? Is she the reason why you canceled your engagement with Madison?"
Gwen's eyes rounded. Blood boiled inside of her upon hearing that Theo was engaged with Madison! Theo made her believe he had no relationship with Madison, but what did Caroline say? Were they engaged?
"Theo? What is Gwen doing here?" Another woman exited the car, and it happened to be Madison.
Madison was teary-eyed when she saw Gwen and Theo together. She muttered, "So, Gwen, you are alive. After all these years."
"Theo, you can't honestly be leaving me for this woman," Madison implored. "Please, think rationally."
"I am rational! How dare you question your alpha!" Theo yapped. "Why did you all come here without informing me? Haven't I told you to wait for my announcement this Saturday?"
"Because you were ignoring me! You left me at the hospital when you knew I needed you!" Madison screamed.
"Theo!" This time, Theo's mother stepped out of the car. Gwen saw Catherine struggling to walk. She was chasing her breath as she screamed, "How could you, Theo! When Madison told me that you were probably leaving her for Gwen, we did not believe it, but seeing this now, I am heartbroken! Why would you want to get back to a woman who cheated on you?"
"Mother, Gwen did not cheat on me," Theo said through gritted teeth.
"What do you mean?" Catherine barked. "Did you forget that you are infertile? And the DNA test?"
During the entire exchange, Gwen tried to cover her son's ears. She did not want her son to hear all the hate directed toward her, especially the accusations of her cheating on Theo.
Caroline joined the heated discussion, demanding Theo to reconsider, "I don't care that she helped save us back then. She betrayed you, and that is irredeemable!"
"Enough!" Theo growled. "I am your alpha, and I command you to stay back, be quiet and listen!"
Theo was clearly furious. Even Gwen felt chills down her spine, following his orders. Madison and his family had no choice but to bow their heads before Theo. Only then did Theo explain again, "Gwen did not cheat on me. I found out just recently too."
Theo turned to Ian and motioned for the pup to step forward. His mother and sister followed his gaze, their eyes settling on Ian. Though surprise flickered in their expressions, they remained silent, unable to voice their astonishment due to Theo's command.
"He is my son with Gwen. You cannot deny our resemblance. I also did a paternity test with Ian and confirmed he is my son. I don't know what happened in the past or how Gwen became pregnant, but the truth is here before our eyes." Theo said firmly. "Smell my blood in his veins. Your connection may not be as strong as ours, but you can sense it too, Mother. He is your grandson."
Glancing at his sister, Theo urged, "Caroline. Open up your heart and see the truth."
Theo guided Ian closer to Catherine. He said, "Look at him, mother. Look at his eyes, his face. He is my son."
Then, Theo turned to Ian, introducing his mother and sister, "Son, this is your Grandma Catherine. And this is your aunt Caroline."
"Hi," Ian greeted reluctantly. "I'm Ian. It's nice to meet you."
Gwen sensed it. Her son had noticed their indifference. However, with respect to his father, he greeted them politely.
Theo's mother remained still, but Gwen saw how Catherine Erhart became emotional at the sight of Ian. As for Caroline, she looked more frightened at the thought of Ian being Theo's real son.
Next, Gwen saw how Theo became silent. It was evident that he was now mindlinking with Madison and his family. That could only mean one thing: They still did not accept Ian.
~ Theo ~
After commanding his family to listen, Theo introduced Ian as his son. His mother, Catherine, quickly recognized the bond. It was evident by her lack of objections. After all, Ian looked like him when he was just a pup.
Sadly, Caroline was more resistant. She said through mindlink, 'I can't accept this, Theo! I can't! We can't have Lucius' blood as an alpha heir to Port Leon!'
'Gwen is not Lucius Darwin's daughter,' Theo mindlinked to all three women before him. He supposed it was better to continue their heated argument through mindlink rather than letting Ian hear their objections.
'Who told you that?' Caroline asked.
'Gwen did,' Theo replied. 'And I believe her.'
'She is lying, Theo! She is lying. She has to be lying!' Madison finally reacted through mindlink. 'Just like she is lying about this child!'
'How could you just believe her!' Caroline screamed as she linked.
At that point, Theo could not help but bark. His body expanded as his fangs elongated. He was forced to put Ian behind him, and Gwen quickly took their son. He said to Ian, "Go with your mommy, Ian. I'll be with you soon."
After Ian was inside the packhouse with Gwen, Theo finally released his family and Madison from his alpha command. He revealed, "I did not believe Gwen in the past. As it turned out, the child she carried was truly my son. And now, I missed six years of Ian's life, and I only have myself to blame for it."
"Theo, the paternity test may be fake," Madison suggested.
"My men supervised the paternity test! It cannot be fake. Besides, I can smell the blood in him! He is my son!" Theo could not help but raise his voice at Madison this time. He motioned towards Catherine, saying, "Can't you see? Even mother could sense that Ian is my son."
Caroline and Madison turned to Catherine, but the latter did not oppose. Theo's mother simply kept quiet, contemplating.
"But Theo. She is Lucius' daughter. Remember that Lucius killed our father, my mate, and my child? How can you just take her word for it?" Caroline asked. "She is just saying that so she can get back into your life!"
"We must stop blaming Gwen for Lucius' sins. Gwen has no reason to lie about it. The truth is, she did not want anything to do with me. It is I who is pushing my luck back into her life! So, whether she is or is not Lucius' daughter, I don't care. What matters to me is Gwen and my son!" Theo added.
"No!" Madison broke down in tears before Theo. She fell on her knees and demanded answers, "Why? Why are you doing this? Why Gwen? What makes her so special?"
"Yes, Theo, we don't understand? Let's say that that boy is, indeed, your child. He can still be your heir, but you can take Madison as your luna," Caroline suggested. "Please, not her!"
"No!" Theo growled. "I only want Gwen."
"But why?" Madison repeated.
"She must have bewitched you, Theo," Caroline suggested.
"Because Gwen is my fated mate!" Theo finally revealed. "There was no bewitching that happened. I discovered we were fated mates the day before the rejection ceremony more than six years ago. I was determined to free myself from our fate, but I was wrong. I was so wrong. When Gwen disappeared, I couldn't forget her."
"What?" Catherine finally spoke in shock.
"Yes, Mother, Gwen is my fated mate," Theo repeated. "I think that... there was truth to Agatha's insight."
While Theo's family and Madison were again dumbfounded, he added, "I made a mistake in the past by not believing in Gwen. Now that I have found her, I will make it all right for her. She is still my wife. More importantly, we have a child together. So, I will do anything I can for her to accept me back into her life."
"I can sense that there are still objections in your hearts, so I will ask you all to return to your homes and reflect on what you have learned today. If you can't find it in you to accept Gwen and Ian, at least respect my wishes and the fate that the Moon Goddess has bestowed upon us. We are destined mates, and I wish to honor the fate given to us," Theo asserted.
"And what if we can't?" Caroline asked.
Theo could not believe what he was hearing. He never expected his sister to be this defiant. The last thing he wanted was to choose between his family and Gwen, but if it came to that, he would choose Gwen this time. With no other option, he responded decisively, "Then, you have no place in my pack."
"Theo!" Catherine reacted, and suddenly, her hand clenched against her chest. She was, yet again, having difficulty breathing.
"Mother?" Theo reached for his mother, but before he knew it, Catherine fainted in his arms. "Gwen! Gwen, can you help?"
