                    ~ Gwen ~
"Mommy, why do Grandma and Aunt not want us?" Ian asked as they prepared for bed that night.
Gwen stilled as she pulled the sheets down. She sighed and replied, "It's not you. It's me."
"Why?" Ian asked.
"It's a long story," Gwen answered. "They thought that I cheated on your father, but it's not true."
"Cheated?" Ian asked. "What's that?"
It was painful for Gwen to explain it to her son, but she realized there was no avoiding it now. She sighed and answered, "When two people are together, like when they are married, they promise not to be with anyone else. Cheating happens when one person breaks that promise by having a special friendship with someone else that they should only have with their husband or wife."
"But I did not cheat on your father. Theo knows that now, but aside from that misunderstanding, they also think I am the daughter of a bad man," Gwen added.
"But, Grandpa George and Grandma Juliet are good people," Ian noted.
"It's not Grandpa George or your Grandma," Gwen explained. She sighed, upset that she had to clarify this part of her past. "Come here."
Ian was already in his pajamas. He climbed up the bed next to Gwen, and then she said, "When Mommy was a baby, I was taken by bad people from Grandpa and Grandma. Then, I was raised by a bad man named Lucius. They think I am Lucius' real daughter."
"Then, let's tell them you are not," Ian insisted. He looked teary-eyed as he said, "I don't like if my other grandpa will hate me."
"It's more complicated than that, Ian," Gwen explained. "Your father tried to tell them, but if they refuse to believe him, it's already their will."
Hurt evidently reflected on his face as Ian asked, "So, they don't want us?"
"Oh, Ian." Gwen embraced her son. She could not help but become emotional after that day's encounter with Theo's mother and sister. She said, "I'm sorry. Your father and I met in the most inconvenient way."
"But, Mommy, what can we do?" Ian asked with a painful expression.
"Honestly, I'm not sure," Gwen answered vaguely, not wanting to hurt Ian any more than he already was. Deep down, she believed the best option was to leave Port Leon. Theo could still visit his son in Southern Alfar, but staying in his pack just wasn't feasible.
After putting her son to sleep, Gwen went straight to see Theo. He was in his room, so she knocked on his door. When he opened it, Gwen went straight to the point and said, "Theo, this will never work. Can't you see? Even if you told them I was not Lucius' daughter, your family was unwilling to accept the facts. Please, let us leave."
"What?" Theo asked.
"Let me and Ian leave. We need to return to Cada City and live our lives," Gwen repeated. "I promise you can visit Ian anytime, but let us not force things - force your mother to accept Ian and me because you will only face resistance."
"No!" Theo retorted. "You are not keeping me away from my son, nor are you leaving my side -"
"But," Gwen tried to reason with Theo. However, he insisted on what he wanted.
"Just wait until Saturday. I will announce your return to the pack, and everything will be okay from there," Theo declared. "We agreed on three months."
"First of all, I did not agree to anything," Gwen responded. "I had no choice."
When Theo did not answer, she growled, repeating, "I don't think it will ever work."
"It will. We just need to prove that you are not related to Lucius," Theo answered. "Then, my sister could start to accept you."
"And how will you do that?" Gwen asked.
"We need to invite your parents," Theo suggested.
Immediately, Gwen was shocked. She said, "No! I don't need to prove anything to you and your people, Theo! I don't even want to be here!"
Naturally, she did not want to bother her parents, not when their entire pack was hiding from the world. The Purple-Eye Pack was supposed to be a secret pack, and crossing over to Northern Alfar was another complication.
"Okay! Okay!" Theo raised his hands in surrender. "I'll take care of it. Just let me handle it this Saturday. You are not leaving me, Gwen, and that's final."
Because Theo would not accept a no for an answer, Gwen had to wait for Saturday. When the day finally came, all the available pack members were called to the community grounds at ten a.m.
While Baron and Jacob joined the warriors on watch, Gwen and Ian came with Theo to the stage, shocking everyone around. From where Gwen sat, she could hear them talking about her.
"Is that Gwen? She is alive?"
"Is that the bastard child?"
"Is she wearing contact lenses?"
"What is going on?"
Out of the corner of Gwen's eyes, she saw Madison in a group of female warriors with Caroline. They were all fuming as they stared at Gwen and Ian.
Gwen gulped and shook her head, wondering how Theo could make this work. Meanwhile, she saw the elders talking to one another with Catherine. Not much had changed. The elders remained the same since Gwen had left, and based on how they were staring at her, they disliked her return.
"Everyone, please settle down," Theo finally spoke. "I asked everyone to gather here today for a very important announcement. A few days ago, I met my son with Gwen -"
Theo's initial announcement raised several objections. The pack members were murmuring to each other, expressing their shock and disbelief.
"Silence everyone, and let me speak!" Theo commanded and the pack members quickly hushed their voices.
Theo's warriors also growled, ordering compliance from the pack members. When the murmurs hushed, Theo resumed, "Yes, it was believed that Gwen cheated on me in the past, but! I met my son, Ian."
Motioning to Ian, Theo said, "I smell my blood in his veins, and I also did a paternity test at the hospital, and it came back positive!"
Yet again, whispers of doubt and questions lingered in the air. Theo further strengthened his voice as he said, "I suspect that someone sabotaged the first paternity test many years ago, and that was how I ended up accusing Gwen of betraying me, but all the while, she was indeed carrying my child."
"But Theo, aren't you infertile?" One pack member asked.
"That is another question that the hospital has yet to address. Our hospital in Port Leon reported that I cannot make any she-wolf pregnant, but the truth is before me now: I have a son with Gwen, whose name is Ian!" Theo declared. He looked back to where Ian sat and urged him to come forward.
The pup reluctantly followed his father's order and stood next to Theo. Theo said, "As you can see, especially to the elders, my son looks like me. I looked like Ian when I was still a pup."
"And no, this isn't a ploy, a scheme that Gwen had planned, for it is I who had discovered the truth without Gwen knowing it!" Theo added. He narrated how he rescued Ian and from there, he felt the familial bond. "It was only later that I met Gwen and that I learned she was Ian's mother."
"And rightfully so, for I had only been intimate with Gwen," Theo added. "There was no one else who could mother my child. It could only be Gwen."
"So, you might be asking, what does this mean?" Theo resumed. "It means only one thing: my decision to reject Gwen in the past was a mistake, one that I regretted, and therefore after having found her now with my child, I wish to take her back as my wife and your luna!"
The crowd went into an uproar, shocked by Theo's words, but it only took a second for one to oppose.
A female warrior raised, "But Alpha Theo, what about Madison? She is a more deserving luna than Gwen. We are thankful for Gwen's help during our captive days, but it doesn't change the fact that she is Lucius' daughter. Moreover, she is weak! What can she offer our pack if she becomes our luna?"
