"The only solution is to ask Gwen's parents to visit," Brody suggested while in Theo's office.
At that point, Theo was very frustrated. His sister's defiance led to a group of pack members following her grounds. Now, he faced a more challenging task: to prove that Gwen was unrelated to Lucius.
"But Gwen doesn't feel obligated to prove her identity," Theo muttered.
"Then, we are looking at this the wrong way, Alpha," Brody implied. "Gwen is not cooperating because you have yet to win her heart back."
"Brody, we are fated," Theo highlighted.
"That's true, Alpha, but she must have been hurt so much in the past," Brody answered. "She is trying to defy your fates."
"But I'm trying to connect with her," Theo reasoned. "I'm trying my best to make up for my mistakes."
"Yes, but with your family and Madison here, you will have opposition and disruptions," Brody pointed out. "Maybe - maybe, Luna Gwen is right. Maybe instead of keeping her here, you need to go to where she feels safer."
"You said she would let you see Ian in Cada, right?" Brody said.
"What are you saying, Brody?" Theo asked in anger. He gritted his teeth and yelled, "I'm not letting her go!"
"Yeah, well, sometimes, if you are holding on to something too tight, you end up losing what you are trying to save," Brody suggested.
"Fuck you, Brody," Theo cussed. "Since when were you smarter than me in love and marriage?"
Brody laughed. He shook his head and answered, "I'm just saying, maybe your approach should be different, Alpha."
A hiss left Theo's lips. He said, "I'll think about it. Do you have any updates from the hospital? Have you found the laboratory technicians from more than six years ago?"
"About that." Brody leaned forward. He reported, "We found one laboratory technician. His name is Cruz. He said that during the paternity test, he fell asleep. He thought it was strange because he just had coffee, and when he woke up, his colleagues were already analyzing the samples."
"The colleagues he spoke of are still unaccounted for. We identified their new addresses, but they were not in their apartments," Brody added.
"Great. What a coincidence," Theo muttered.
Clearing his throat, Brody resumed, "As for the hospital, Alpha, they suggested that you give them another sample of your semen. They want to run another test -"
"Fuck it!" Theo was pissed. "How many times do they have to run the test? How incompetent!"
"The laboratory technicians in charged of testing your samples were the best in the hospital. In fact, they are now seniors or supervisors. They refuse to admit any mistakes that have been made. They said they performed the test accurately," Brody explained.
"Then how do they explain Ian?" Theo asked, raising his voice.
Brody took a deep breath and responded, "A Moon Goddess miracle - her will for you to have a child with your fated mate."
Theo threw his frame back in the chair. He analyzed the situation and admitted, "You are right. You could be right. We are talking about the Moon Goddess, after all. Still, I can't help but want to find answers."
"What do I tell the hospital?" Brody asked.
"Tell them I will only give them a sample if Doctor Hanson is part of the team that will perform the test. Right now, I have trust issues with the hospital's other staff," Theo replied.
"Doctor Hanson? The same man you thought Gwen might have had a relationship with," Brody asked.
"Stop it!" Theo barked. "Obviously, I was wrong."
"Yes, we were all wrong to have thought of Luna Gwen that way," Brody acknowledged. "But Theo, Dr. Hanson was also the same man who had surrendered Gwen to the rogues."
"I know, but maybe he did not have a choice. His family was threatened. He was the one who initiated the paternity test between Ian and me, so he means well. I think I trust him," Theo revealed. "In any case, another test of my sperm will not change the fact that Ian is my son."
"Very well, Alpha," Brody answered.
Theo deliberately avoided seeing Gwen that day because he already knew what she would ask. After Caroline raised objections again, he was certain Gwen wanted to return home.
The next day, however, Gwen was already waiting for him outside his door at five in the morning. He tried to tease, smirking as he asked, "Do you miss me already?"
"Oh, please, Theo," Gwen said before rolling her eyes.
"Is Ian still sleeping?" Theo asked, and Gwen nodded.
"I'm going out for a run. Would you like to join me?" Theo asked. He did not give her any chance to respond because he just walked away.
Gwen had no choice but to quickly put on her jogging shoes and chase after him.
In his training gear, Theo ran as fast as he could. To his surprise, Gwen did not fall too far behind. He thought Gwen looked adorable in her leggings and tank top.
"Will you slow down?" Gwen asked the second they reached the peak of the nature trail.
Theo took deep breaths. He stared at the skies as the sun began to rise and simply marveled at it. Beside him, Gwen spoke, "Theo, have you thought about what I said? We can't stay here, not when we are not wanted. Caroline, she - she has so much hate because of the love she lost, she can't see right."
"I understand," Theo finally said. In as much as it pained him to agree with Gwen, this time around, he realized that he could not force his family to accept his fated mate, at least, not now.
"What do you mean?" Gwen softly asked.
"I agree," Theo replied. "I will let you and Ian return to Cada, provided that you will not keep him away from me, Gwen. I will see Ian as much as I can while I slowly try to talk some sense into my sister and her group of friends."
"Do you really mean that?" Gwen asked.
Theo turned to Gwen and stared at her purple eyes. He was happy Gwen was no longer wearing contact lenses this time. He replied, "Yes, but you have to promise me that I can see him whenever I want."
"Of course!" Gwen responded with a smile. "He is your son. You have every right to."
"Thank you," Theo said. "And there is one more thing that I want in return."
Gwen frowned. She asked, "Another condition? What is it?"
Theo turned to Gwen and moved closer. She quickly retreated until she was leaning against one of the trees. She called, "Theo?"
"If I could just have... one kiss," Theo begged before trapping Gwen between his arms. "One kiss is all I ask."
"Theo!" Gwen opposed with her eyes rounding. "I don't like it when you force things."
"It wouldn't be forced if I asked permission, right?" Theo requested. "Just one, Gwen. Just one."
He leaned in and rested his chin on her forehead, saying, "I really miss you, like crazy. Please. Just one peck, and you can leave on Tuesday, not Monday because I have things to do, and I can't take you to the airport."
"You know I am a man of my word, right?" Theo asked. He remained in the same position, waiting.
Their closeness was making his wolf go wild. Theo thought Gwen's lilac scent was taking away all his reasons. If it were up to him, he would force a kiss right then and there, but he did not want to scare Gwen.
"Well?" He asked again.
Theo watched as Gwen looked to her left. Her chest raised as she answered, "Just one."
He gulped. Honestly, he would have accepted a no, but since Gwen said yes, he lowered his face so that their lips touched.
It was a simple, gentle peck, but it sent sparks all over Theo's body, and he swore his manhood swelled. Trying his luck, he requested again, "How about one more?"
