                    ~ Gwen ~
"Gwen, I think Alpha Theo was devastated when you left," Doctor Marcus Hanson said. "I saw it. He tried requesting for the paternity test to be repeated. He badly wanted to disprove that you betrayed him."
Gwen felt her heart tighten when Doctor Hanson shared another testimony that backed up Theo's regrets.
"It wasn't just that. The alpha became generally distant. He performed his duties, but he no longer attended most social gatherings within and outside the pack. He had also alienated himself from his family and many of Caroline's circle, especially Madison." A hiss left Marcus' lips as he raised, "I don't know why he recently proposed marriage to Madison, though. So, when he canceled that engagement, we expected it."
"Look, all I am saying is that I think he regretted how he treated you in the past," the doctor said. "He must have realized this only after you were gone."
Silence stretched between them for a good few seconds. Then, Gwen answered, "I think it's good that he realized his mistakes, but even so, it's nothing compared to the pain I had endured by being his wife and mistakenly thought of as Lucius' daughter."
Dead air fell upon them. Marcus belatedly asked, "So, you won't take him back? Even for Ian?"
Gwen let out a heavy sigh. She answered, "It's hard to say. It's complicated with us being fated, and it's also hard with his family disliking me. For now, all I can give is his chance to be Ian's father."
Marcus nodded. He said, "I understand, Gwen. That was exactly why I cooperated with your brother. I felt bad for you back then. I just did not anticipate Alpha Theo would keep looking for you all those years. Some part of me felt sorry for him too."
Checking his watch, the doctor revealed, "Anyway, I better go. Dunken has some sample for me to pick up -"
"Sample?" Gwen asked.
"Alpha Theo has been questioning the results of his fertility tests that were performed in the past. No one can blame him because of Ian. The alpha asked me to be part of the team that will analyze his sperm. Dunken should have it, or had it stored somewhere here," Doctor Hanson said.
"Oh, he has a fridge in his room, and Dunken might be there, on guard," Gwen said before guiding Marcus back to the living room.
After calling Dunken, he and the doctor left for the hospital with the sample that Theo had given for the test. With nothing left to do, Gwen prepared for their luggage.
She only had one day left in Port Leon, and on Tuesday, she was finally leaving the place that gave her so much heartache.
"Mommy, I feel sorry for Grandma. She is sick. Aren't you going to treat her?" Ian asked Gwen as they prepared for bed that night.
Gwen stared blankly at her son before asking, "It's not that I don't want to, Honey. Catherine may prefer other doctors."
"But you are the best," Ian pointed out.
Gwen smiled and ruffled Ian's hair. She said, "You are such a good pup, worried about others. I'll try to talk to your dad about it - "
"And Um - about Dad." Ian hesitated. He played with his fingers and requested, "Can Daddy stay with us just like the last time? I'm going to miss him."
Gwen's heart raced as she remembered the night Theo slept in their room. She wasn't going to take any chances, so she proposed, "Why don't you stay with your father instead?"
"Okay, Mommy," Ian said excitedly.
Gwen left Ian and went to Theo's room. When she knocked on his door, he quickly opened it. Theo smiled, leaning on the door frame, and asked, "Gwen?"
"Ian wants to stay with you," Gwen said.
Theo's eyes glinted as soon as she proposed. He answered, "I'll get him -"
"Before that, Ian told me your mother is still unwell," Gwen said. "How is she?"
Theo nodded. He revealed, "She is getting treatments for her symptoms, but the doctors could not figure out what is wrong with her."
"Theo, I can help your mother. Before I leave, maybe I can see her." Gwen paused. She wasn't able to evaluate Catherine properly, but she could only hope another two or three drops of her blood could cure her.
"That's very nice of you, Gwen. I'll talk to her about it," Theo responded. He looked up and smiled, looking past Gwen.
Gwen realized that Theo was staring at Ian. Her son was already waiting behind her. The pup said, "Daddy, can I stay with you?"
"Sure thing, Son. Come here," Theo urged, stretching his arm to Ian.
Gwen kissed her son goodnight, but before returning to her room, Theo suggested, "You are welcome to join us. My bed is bigger and more comfortable."
"Um. No, thank you, Theo. I'll be fine in my room," Gwen said.
"Well, just in case you change your mind, I'll leave the door open for you," Theo said with a sly grin.
Gwen rolled her eyes and quickly returned to her room. She removed her contact lenses and got on the bed.
Yes, Gwen, Baron, and Jacob still wore contact lenses. They would still prefer it. It had become part of their daily routine. Moreover, they had a meeting with Alexander's guards earlier.
For minutes, Gwen tried to get some sleep. Then, she found herself staring at the pillows next to her. She remembered how Ian liked to hug pillows at night, so she got up and delivered two pillows to Theo.
Theo quickly opened the door. After he received the pillows, Gwen stared into Theo's room. Noticing how dark it was, she said, "Have some nightlight on. Sometimes, he goes to the restroom in the middle of the night, and he might trip if it's too dark."
"Okay, got it," Theo acknowledged.
"He drinks water sometimes too," Gwen added.
"I have a mini fridge here with water," Theo said.
Gwen bit her lip. She looked at her son again and hesitated. Because she wavered, Theo asked, "Would you like to stay with us? I won't mind if you grope me again."
Theo smirked, but Gwen narrowed her eyes. She said, "No. Goodnight, Theo."
"Is he still awake?" Gwen asked again, returning her attention to Theo.
"Yes, we were about to sleep," Theo responded.
"Have him take a last-minute trip to the bathroom so he won't get up to pee often," Gwen added.
"Anything else?" Theo asked.
Gwen raised her chin and said, "He likes to cuddle."
She looked at Theo's hard muscles and remarked, "You are not soft enough for cuddling."
Theo laughed. He said, "That's what the extra pillows are for."
Gwen saw the laugh lines on his face, which made him look so attractive that it took her breath away. She wound up retreating, afraid of how Theo affected her, and finally, she repeated, "Goodnight."
"Goodnight, Gwen. I guess I'll just... dream of you," he said, and their eyes met, igniting the butterflies in her stomach before Theo lazily closed the door.
Gwen did not know why, but that night, she did not get any sleep. She had walked around the room, done pushups, and counted numbers, but no matter what she did, her mind was on Ian and Theo.
Was her son sleeping well? Could Theo wake up if Ian needed something in the middle of the night? She wanted answers, but she also knew she was overthinking.
Because she was still awake at three in the morning, she surrendered.
Gwen crept into Theo's room and watched her son sleep from the other side of the bed. She smiled because, just like a few nights ago, Ian was holding Theo so tightly.
'What am I even worried about?' She leaned in and pecked Ian's cheek. She was about to leave when Theo grabbed her arm.
"Stay," Theo said. "If you can't sleep, then stay."
"I shouldn't," Gwen said.
"Stay for Ian, not me," Theo softly suggested.
Gwen gave it much thought, and finally, she said, "Okay. I hope I won't get any crazy dreams."
She lay beside her son, though the pup was nestled between her and Theo, their faces still aligned. They gazed into each other's eyes before Theo softly said, "Rest."
Gwen closed her eyes, and the next thing she knew, sleep came fast.
When morning came, Gwen was relieved that she had no indecent dreams. So, no groping happened. However, when she fluttered her eyes open, she realized that Ian held her and Theo tightly, and their arms hugged their son.
Above all, Theo stared at her intently. Yearning reflected in Theo's eyes as he said, "You are so beautiful, Gwen. More beautiful than I remembered. I will miss you and Ian."
Gwen hated that Theo said that because her heart ached for him.
