                    ~ Gwen ~
Gwen, Ian, and Theo were on the road and had been for half an hour. Rollin was driving them with Dunken in the passenger seat. Baron and Jacob were in another car, and the rest of King Alexander's guards followed behind in a third car."
"I'm going to miss you, Daddy," Ian said with a gloomy expression.
"Don't worry, I'll visit you soon," Theo suggested while he pecked on Ian's head. When he leaned back in his seat, his eyes met Gwen, and she immediately averted his gaze.
"Gwen," Theo called.
"Hmmm?" She answered, finally looking at Theo.
"Once you arrive, I will ask Dunken and Rollin to report your living conditions. If they are not satisfactory, I will see you immediately and deal with it. If all is fine, then I'll see you next week. I just need to take care of some important matters in the hospital and the pack," Theo revealed.
"Alright, I understand," Gwen replied quietly, giving Theo a brief glance before returning her focus to the road. Her heart ached with sympathy for Theo and Ian, fully aware of how much her decision hurt them. Each time Gwen glanced at Theo or stole a look at her son, her resolve wavered, so she deliberately avoided their eyes, determined to hide her sorrow and guilt. It was the only way she could safeguard her decision.
Besides, everything was already ready back in Cada City. Her parents, Juliet and George, were waiting for them. They had also found a vacant apartment for Rollin and Dunken to live in within the same building as her residential flat.
Another twenty minutes into their journey, Rollin suddenly stepped on the brakes.
"Alpha?" Dunken turned to Theo as if asking what to do.
When Gwen glanced at Theo, she realized he was fuming in his seat. His face was red, and the veins on his neck were protruding. Theo was mindlinking.
"Port Leon is under attack," Theo revealed through gritted teeth.
"What? Oh, my goddess. You need to go back, Theo. Your people need you!" Gwen proposed.
Theo frowned and objected, "But -"
"Rollin and Dunken can stay. Besides, you are not coming with us to Cada. You have already said goodbye, and that's what matters," Gwen said.
When Theo still hesitated, Gwen added, "I'm with my brother, Jacob, and the warriors from Southern Alfar."
"Maybe we should all go back," Theo growled.
"But Alpha, the pack is under attack," Rollin said. "Gwen and Ian are better off away from the pack right now."
"That's right, Theo," Gwen said.
Another growl left Theo's lips... This time, his eyes glowed in anger. He said, "Wait for me at Stormreach's airport!"
"Okay, Alpha!" Dunken answered.
Gwen and Ian rode with Baron and Jacob instead. Rollin drove for them while Dunken joined the warriors from Cada. As they moved forward, the mother and son looked back at the car's rear window, and then Theo dashed back in the direction of Port Leon.
The further Theo drove, the more fear and worry crept into Gwen's heart, and she could tell Ian had the same concerns.
"Be safe, Daddy," Ian muttered.
"Don't worry, Ian, Luna, Alpha Theo had gotten very strong. Nothing will happen to him," Rollin said as if having read her mind.
Now and then, Gwen could tell that Rollin was communicating with the pack, but as soon as distance wanned his connection to Port Leon, the gamma was already making calls.
He put his phone on speaker as he spoke to Brody, Theo's beta. Rollin clarified, "What, they are retreating? Good! Fuckers. Who are they? And why did they suddenly attack."
"They were rogues, but we are trying to get more information. Alpha Theo is by the entrance to the pack. He caught a few prisoners," Brody answered while on speakerphone.
Relief washed over Gwen, but just when her chest soothed, a brindle werewolf suddenly lunged at the hood of their car!
"Fuck!" Rollin screamed. "What the -"
Then, out of nowhere, five werewolves surfaced from the trees on the side of the road, and it looked like there were more.
"It's an ambush," Baron suggested, making Gwen's skin crawl.
"Step on the gas!" Jacob commanded Rollin, and the gamma performed as suggested. He managed to get the brindle werewolf off the car by driving in zigzag, but as they moved forward, more unknown werewolves emerged out of hiding!
They were brimming with rage, their fangs extending and their nostrils flaring with every breath. Claws dug into the pavement, and their bodies were coiled with tension, ready to unleash a deadly assault.
"This isn't good," Rollin grumbled.
"Keep driving!" Jacob suggested.
Rollin was ready to drive past the unidentified werewolves when the same group attacked simultaneously! Several of them struck from the side of the car, forcing Rollin to drive off the pavement!
"Fuck!" Rollin cussed as he lost control of the wheel.
"Ahh!" Gwen screamed because her body shook, and her head bumped into the side of the car, all while her arms protected Ian.
"Mommy! Who are they?" Ian cried in fear.
Gwen looked at the rearview mirror and was shocked to see more werewolves already pounding the royal guard's car!
"Dunken said they are going to fight. That way, they can distract the enemies, and we will find a way to drive past them," Rollin declared.
It was a solid plan, but seven werewolves were violently shaking their car at that moment. They could shatter the windshield or flip the vehicle at any second!
As the growling outside their vehicle continued, Gwen looked back. She saw how Dunken and the royal guards were already engaged in a fight. Then, Gwen saw Dunken run toward them. His fearful assault distracted the enemies, and Rollin managed to step on the gas again.
They were still along the unpaved side of the road, struggling to get back on the concrete when the same attacking werewolves lunged back at their vehicle. The car rocked violently as more joined in, their claws and fangs working together to pound on the roof and windows.
"Dunken said they are rogues!" Rollin said, this time, his body was expanding in anger.
"We can't help it. We need to fight back!" Jacob growled.
"Mommy, I'm scared," Ian cried in Gwen's arms, and she protectively tightened her hold around her son.
"I'm going out!" Rollin declared. He took a deep breath and kicked his side of the door open. He leaped out, rolling on the ground and shifting into his dark chocolate werewolf form. "Come at me, you freaks!"
"I'm joining in," Jacob declared. "As much as possible, stay back in, Baron!"
Jacob also shifted into his wolf and charged at the enemies. His form stunned the rogues because they clearly froze in their stance for a second. Gwen understood why. It was probably the first time they had seen a white werewolf with a purple glow.
Everyone from their pack, with purple eyes, shared the same white werewolf form with a striking light purple glow. While their heights, builds, fur qualities, snout features, and a few purple markings varied, as well as the intensity of their glow, they were otherwise nearly identical in their wolf appearances.
"Be careful, Jacob!" Gwen screamed before looking back at the royal guards. To her shock, two of the king's warriors were already down, struggling to breathe. She counted the number of enemies surrounding them, and she realized how they were greatly outnumbered.
"Twenty-eight. There are twenty-eight of them, Baron! We need to take action; they can't handle this alone!" Gwen exclaimed, her fear of leaving Ian behind overwhelming her. Desperately, she thought of only one person and hoped their bond was strong enough to alert him to the danger they faced. "Theo, we need your help!"
