                    ~ Gwen ~
"Duck, Gwen!" Baron screamed.
Immediately, Gwen dodged, dipping along with her son on the paved road.
"Ahh! Mommy!" Ian cried.
"It's okay, Honey. I have you," Gwen said nervously while holding Ian tightly.
A loud growl lingered in the air as the attacking rogue flew a yard away with a moonstone arrow, pinning him to a tree. The shock was apparent on the rogue's face as he transformed into his human shape. By the time he looked at his chest, his life was already fading away.
Gwen looked back at her brother and confirmed Baron was already using his moonstone weapon. She glanced at where Jacob was, and sure enough, he was also using his hand-hidden blades. The weapons of each purple-eye werewolf were unique to them. Baron had his bow and arrow, while Jacob had small hand-hidden blades.
Thankfully, Dunken and Rollin were so occupied, distracting the enemies, that they failed to notice how Jacob and Baron defended themselves uniquely.
By the time Gwen and Ian crossed to the other side of the road, all of Alexander's royal guards had already fallen. Gwen wasn't sure of their condition, but she hoped they were still alive so she could tend to them later.
Even though the royal guards were down, they had managed to immobilize several rogues. They gave their all to ensure that Gwen and Ian had a chance to escape.
"Bring Ian and Gwen to safety!" Dunken barked, and Jacob shifted back into his wolf to run after Gwen and Ian.
"What happened with the royal guards?!" Gwen asked as she hastily placed Ian on Jacob's back.
"Their claws are poisoned! Alexander's men were eventually weakened after sustaining several wounds," Jacob said. He showed Gwen part of his arm that was scratched but was in the process of healing. "I don't burn this much. Sure enough, the rogues have poison in their claws."
Learning of this, Gwen screamed at Theo's warriors, "Their claws are poisoned. Be careful!"
In the next few minutes, Jacob and Gwen ran through the trees on the side of the road. Gwen had also shifted into her wolf form to pick up the pace. Behind them, Baron kept holding back the pursuing rogues that had escaped Dunken and Rollin's defenses. At the same time, Baron tried to gain on them.
"Mommy, I'm so scared!" Ian cried. Tears had already flooded his cheeks as he held on to Jacob tightly.
"We will be safe, Honey. We are running back to your Daddy," Gwen said. Now that they were in this situation, she greatly regretted leaving, but who would have known an ambush was waiting for them?
"Gwen, Dunken, and Rollin were hurt too, but it did not seem like the poison affected them," Jacob remarked.
For sure, the poison had impacted Jacob and Baron too, but with their natural healing ability, it would take a lot of the said toxin to deplete their strength.
"That's good then. At least they will be safe," Gwen said as she continued her run with Jacob.
'Gwen, Jacob, Dunken got bitten. Five rogues are coming your way! I couldn't hold them!' Baron linked with them. 'Be careful!'
"Take Ian!" Jacob suggested.
"No!" Gwen objected. "If my intuition is correct, they are here for me! Go and take Ian back to Theo! I'll fight!"
"But -"
"No, but! Go!" Gwen ordered, and while she said this, her son sobbed violently.
"Mommy! Mommy, don't leave me!" Ian begged. "I'm scared."
"Go!" Gwen commanded.
She knew it was hard for Jacob to follow her orders, but at the same time, he understood she was right. Besides, between the two of them, Jacob could run faster and take Ian to safety.
From where Gwen stood, loud growls and barks echoed in the distance, and it did not take long for Baron's scream to reach her ears.
"Baron," she said under her breath as her wolf took a complete turn.
'Ahhh!' Baron linked. He said, 'Gwen, more is coming - Ahhh!'
Soon enough, the enemies were in her line of sight. She tried to attack them one by one; in that way, she did not have to deal with them at the same time. However, the rogues waited for the others, and seconds later, seven circled around her.
In her white and glowing wolf form, Gwen dug her claws on the ground, ready to counter. The enemies, however, took a moment to remark on her unique color.
"Have you ever seen a wolf like this?" One rogue said. "Maybe we should keep her."
"No!" Another one said. "The instruction is clear. We must kill her!"
Menacing growls reverberated through the air, making Gwen's skin crawl. She eyed her surroundings and realized she had no escape route. Her only option was to fight in her human form and use her moonstone weapon.
Gwen growled before bracing herself. At the same time, one rogue leaped in her direction, his claws ready to strike her!
In an instant, Gwen transformed into her human form. She lifted her right hand, and a shimmering purple light began to swirl around it. In a flash, her moonstone blade appeared in her grasp.
Gwen ducked, and she promptly thrust her weapon into the coming rogue! "Aaaaahh!"
Gasps and expressions of horror appeared on the rivals' faces. Some transformed back into their human forms, diminished by the shocking revelation.
"What the fuck is going on? What the hell is she? First, the two purple wolves, and now this!" One remarked in hysteria.
"We didn't sign up for this!" another one yapped.
It took a moment for the group of rogues to recover, especially since their stabbed colleague immediately landed on the ground, lifeless.
After taking the life of the rogue, Gwen willed her weapon back to her body, and gone was her moonstone blade. Yet again, the rogues were taken aback. Some retreated. However, whoever led the rogues screamed, "We can't return empty-handed. She is just one woman! We need to kill her now!"
"Let's all attack at once!" The other said.
And just like that, they all leaped in Gwen's direction.
At that point, Gwen was genuinely terrified. Her weapon could only take down one enemy at a time, and if all the attackers came at her simultaneously, she wouldn't be able to fend them off. While her healing was quick, the relentless hits would eventually weaken her.
Like the rest of the Purple-Eye Pack, Gwen could heal fast, but it did not mean she was invisible.
'Ian,' she thought as her heart raced.
She crouched down again, eyes shut, bracing herself for what would come. But before she realized it, a louder, more commanding growl reverberated through the air.
With her eyes tightly shut, Gwen could still sense the chaotic clash around her. She heard the snarls, the heavy thuds of paws hitting the ground, and the crash of bodies colliding. Each growl and howl painted a graphic picture of the fierce struggle, making it clear that someone powerful was locked in a brutal battle with the rogues.
When she opened her eyes, she was shocked and relieved to find Theo!
"Theo," Gwen called softly, and a tear rolled down her face.
"How dare you try to hurt my wife and child!" Theo angrily barked. "You will all die today!"
