                    ~ Gwen ~
"Stay behind me, Gwen," Theo ordered.
In his werewolf form, Theo was a sight to behold. His powerful, commanding presence radiated dominance, and his muscular and towering frame made him appear even more formidable. His glowing eyes, sharp as daggers, scanned the rogues surrounding him with a lethal calm, a predator fully aware of his superiority despite being outnumbered.
To Gwen, it felt as though Theo's alpha aura wrapped around her like an impenetrable shield that the enemies wavered. She also gained confidence in his arrival and shifted back into her wolf form, ready to fight alongside Theo.
While the rogues circled around them, Theo asked, "What are you doing?"
"You can't entirely protect me on all sides. I'll have to try and defend myself in case," Gwen responded. "Their claws are embedded with poison."
Very timely, the enemies seemed to have awakened their senses after Theo acknowledged the information she had shared. Shortly after, the rogues quickly lunged on all sides!
Gwen was prepared to fight, but Theo's speed and power were unmatched! In a flash, he shifted into his human form, dodging a frontal attack at him. Theo swiveled to her front and kicked the rogue that was coming at her.
Then, he transformed back into his wolf form. With terrifying precision, his massive jaws clamped onto the nearest rogue, crushing the enemy's shoulder with a bone-snapping force. He flung the rogue aside effortlessly, sending him slamming into a tree.
Gwen remained behind him. She watched in awe as he danced between his forms, seamlessly switching to human when needed for agility and then back to his wolf for raw power. Another rogue dove toward Gwen, but Theo, even in mid-battle, was aware of her. He leaped in front of her again, deflecting the attack with a brutal slash of his claws.
In the following minutes, the air filled with the sound of bodies crashing together, the dull thud of punches, and the occasional cry of pain. Jaws snapped aggressively while the sound of rustling trees echoed overhead.
Their enemies had been reduced to two, so Gwen saw an opportunity to help Theo. She flung at the rogue attacking Theo's back and plunged her canines into its neck.
The rogue tried to free himself, but Gwen was determined to keep down. No matter how much the enemy tried to scratch her, the poison had minimal effect on her.
Gwen's jaws sank deeper into the enemy's flesh, and before she realized it, the rogue exhaled his final breath. Only then did she release him.
"There are two more rogues with Rollin and Dunken. I'll go get them! Go to Ian; he is with Brody and Jacob," Theo said before running off to find his gammas.
"Be careful," she said.
Gwen easily found Ian and Jacob. They were secured not too far from where she was attacked, and relief quickly washed over her.
"Mommy!" Ian called. His face was filled with tears as he stretched his little arms around her. "Daddy is here! He found us!"
While embracing her son in her human form, Gwen's gaze landed on Brody, who was on watch from a distance. They nodded at each other before Gwen responded, "Yes, Honey. Your Daddy saved me."
"More of our warriors have arrived." Brody looked at the surrounding trees and said, "It's safer for us to return to the main road."
"Gwen, your brother is weak. We need to find him," Jacob revealed.
Following Jacob's suggestion, they went in search of Baron first. They found him ten meters away, lying on the ground in his human form, chasing his breath. He was severely wounded, and while his body was trying to heal itself, Gwen could tell the poison had entered his bloodstream.
"Uncle!" The sight terrified Ian. He cried more as he tried approaching his uncle.
'Don't let him see,' Gwen ordered Jacob.
Jacob nodded and grabbed Ian by the waist, saying, "Don't worry, your Mommy will treat your uncle."
Gwen glanced at Theo's beta. She asked, "Can you please give me a private moment with my brother?"
Brody was conflicted, but nonetheless, he said, "I'll stay back. Do what you must, but I can't leave you."
Gwen pulled her brother to the nearest tree, allowing him to get some shade. She bit her finger with her own fang, and as her blood dripped out of her finger, she let Baron drink from it.
Baron could not speak at all. Gwen could only imagine the pain he was enduring at the moment. He grabbed her hand tightly until he let go a few seconds later.
"I think this is a Nightshade Thorn Poison," Baron said before he shut his eyes. "I need to fucking sleep."
"Nightshade Thorn," Gwen muttered. It was a highly potent poison derived from the Lycora Vespera. This rare plant can be found deep in the shadowy forests of volcanic islands.
The said poison was recently discovered and made into a weapon, following the ban of wolfsbane across many countries. It had an antidote, but it was also a rare one to find.
"Rest for a while," Gwen said. "You'll be okay."
Gwen studied her brother's body and saw some of his wounds began to close, which meant her blood was working. However, with the severity of his injuries, Baron would need an entire week of her blood in his system, even if he was a Purple-Eye werewolf.
"Is he good? Can I carry him?" Brody approached.
When Gwen looked at her brother, Baron only nodded, but his eyes remained closed.
They all made it to the main road, with Baron being carried on Brody's back. Gwen spotted the car Theo and Brody had driven in, but Theo's reinforcements hadn't shown up yet. Thankfully, there were no more enemies in sight. However, both Rollin and Theo were nowhere to be found.
Brody must have read her mind that he said, "Alpha Theo and Rollin are in pursuit of three escaping rogues."
Gwen did not waste time. While Brody settled her brother down and looked after Ian. She checked on Dunken and found him unconscious on the road. He had a deep bite wound on his back, and he was severely bleeding.
She cried as she quickly gave him a few drops of her blood. Simultaneously, Jacob rushed to her aid, finding pieces of cloth and creating a bandage over Dunken's wounds.
Next, Gwen went to the royal guards. First, she found Ashton fighting for air. She gave him more blood and prayed to the Moon Goddess that he would make it.
"Gwen, Silas, and Rafi are gone," Jacob revealed behind her, shocking her tremendously.
She snapped her head to Jacob with tears in her eyes. Her lips quivered as she muttered, "Oh, goddess no!"
Gwen wanted to attend to them, but Jacob stopped her. He said, "Gwen! Arlo is still alive! He needs you more than them. Silas and Rafi are gone!"
With a heavy heart, Gwen moved away from the lifeless frames of Silas and Rafi. She proceeded to Arlo, who was barely breathing too. As she gave him her blood, she muttered, "I'm sorry, Arlo. This is my fault. This is my fault."
Jacob helped cover Arlo's wounds. He said, "It's not your fault. No one knew it would end up this way."
When Gwen was done attending to Arlo, two rogues suddenly appeared from the trees. They were restless and were running away.
Immediately, Gwen's heart raced because they were closer to Ian and Brody!
"Stop!" Gwen noticed Theo coming after them and realized the rogues were trying to flee from him. The rogues refused to follow Theo's orders and ran toward Ian and Brody.
"No!" Gwen screamed. "It's me you want. Come after me!"
The enemies continued in their path, refusing to turn back. Suddenly, out of nowhere, Theo let out a scream of agony. "Aaah!"
Gwen's attention landed on Theo as he transformed into his human body. He fell on his knees with his hand on his chest, saying, "I can't breathe!"
She saw the deep cut on Theo's leg, and he cried out in pain. To her surprise, he suddenly fell forward onto the road, knocked out!
"Daddy! No!" While Ian screamed, a gasp escaped Gwen's lips. Her heart felt like it was breaking into a million pieces!
"The poison must be taking effect at last!" the two rogues exclaimed as they charged toward Theo.
Seeing what was about to happen, Gwen's protective instinct kicked in. Her chest became filled with rage as she ran in Theo's direction, transforming into her wolf and threatening, "Don't even think of touching him!"
