                    ~ Gwen ~
"So that's the situation we are in right now," Gwen told her parents over the phone. She was on a video call with George and Juliet Allard in Baron's hospital room. "I think it's too risky to leave for now."
"I wanted to discuss our safety, and even yours, with King Alexander, Mom, Dad," Gwen said. "But right now, it seems almost impossible to leave here."
"Is that why you are all no longer wearing your contact lenses? Has that part of your identity been revealed?" George asked.
Gwen blinked. She did not even realize it. She had worn her contact lenses before leaving Port Leon, but they had disappeared during the attack. Then, that morning, she was in a rush to go to the hospital, and she completely forgot about wearing one.
Moreover, hiding it no longer made sense since Port Leon knew her original eye color.
"We shifted, Dad," Baron said behind Gwen.
"I told Port Leon Pack that it is a genetic condition in our family," Gwen revealed. "That it is an iris pigmentation. So, I think we are okay."
Through the video call, Juliet and George exchanged glances, their emotions conflicted and heavy with the weight of the situation. It was Juliet who finally spoke, her voice strained, "We understand, Gwen. If leaving puts Ian's life—and your own—in danger, it's safer for you to remain in Port Leon."
"But how are they treating you, Gwen? I can't have those people treat you like trash!" George exclaimed.
"Theo and his warriors are treating us well, and it's only a small group within the pack that shows their hostility against me," Gwen said. "So, I think I can bear it. They are at least not hurting Ian."
There was silence on the other end before George directed his gaze to Baron. He asked, "Is this true, Son?"
Gwen's brother, Baron, was now sitting up on the bed. Although his wounds had healed, he still felt exhausted.
Baron wavered. He clenched his jaws before glancing at Jacob and Gwen. He sighed and replied, "Yes, it's true. In fairness to Theo, he seemed to be a different man than before."
"Jacob?" George asked Baron's best friend. "I command you to tell me the truth as your alpha."
Gwen was surprised her father went that far. She frowned and said, "Dad-"
"Yes, Alpha," Jacob responded. "It's true. Alpha Theo is treating us well."
"And Ian?" George asked.
"Alpha Theo -" Jacob looked like he almost did not want to admit it, but eventually, he said, "Alpha Theo adores his son."
"Very well," George said. "We will speak to King Alexander about your situation. He must also be worried since his royal guards were not able to make it back."
"And since you can't come back -" George paused, glancing at Juliet. He returned his attention to Gwen and Baron, saying, "We will come and see you, instead."
"But, Dad, coming here might put you in danger. Since whoever is after us is an enemy of King Arthur, we can only assume that this adversary is in Northern Alfar," Gwen objected. "I can't risk that."
"But we are also worried for you, Gwen," George insisted. "At least, if we are bigger in number, whoever is trying to hurt you and Ian will hesitate."
Gwen frowned. She stuttered, "But what about the secrets of our pack?"
"I'll make arrangements for those safeguarding the Lilac Pack to take precautions," George said. "But I doubt they will go to such lengths to dig about our family heritage."
In reality, there was no Lilac Pack, but of course, the Purple-Eye Pack made it look like the said pack existed. It was registered in a land that belonged to one of the elders. It was guarded by a mix of werewolves who had coexisted with the Purple-Eye Pack, like those who married one or were born into the pack but did not inherit the color of their eyes.
George named the place after their first dwelling, where lilac flowers grew and reminded them of the peace and comfort they once had. The lilacs became a symbol of fond memories, helping the pack feel connected to their past home.
"At least our arrival will solve their issues of you being the daughter of the murderous alpha Lucius Darwin," George said through gritted teeth. "We have been wronged. Gwen, you were taken from us, and we suffered as a family, yet, till this day, you are being blamed for the sins of that horrible man when he is not even your flesh and blood!"
"My pack may not be as rich as Port Leon, and I may not be as strong as Alpha Theo, but I am still an alpha, and my daughter needs to be respected as an alpha's daughter," George concluded.
"And Ian's father? I need to teach him a lesson for hurting you in the past," George added.
"Dad," Gwen groaned.
"What?" George reacted. "I'm not afraid of him. He may be stronger, but I can heal faster."
"Wait. Wait. Are you saying you are going to fight Theo?" Gwen reacted. "Dad, don't -"
"He deserves a punch, and we both know it!" George said.
After lunch, Gwen finished attending to those who needed her blood. She made her way down to the hospital driveway, where Theo and Ian continued to wait for her.
When she entered the car, Theo was fast asleep with Ian resting on his chest. The pup was like a baby seeking comfort from his father.
"Poor kid, he was shaken," Brody remarked behind the wheel.
Gwen gasped, threw her back on the seat, and said, "It was a bad one."
Theo groaned and turned to Gwen, now awake. He asked, "Are you done?"
Gwen nodded. She answered, "But if anything is urgent, I asked Jacob and Doctor Hanson to call me. I might come back later."
"That's fine," Theo said.
"My parents are coming," Gwen revealed and it stunned Theo.
"You - your real parents?" He stuttered as he clarified.
"Yes," Gwen confirmed.
Theo smiled. He said, "It would be an honor to meet them. I'd like to meet them."
"Dad said he would punch you in the face," Gwen revealed.
Brody choked on his spew, whereas Theo formed a complicated expression on his face. However, he seemed to understand that he gulped and answered, "I - I suppose I deserve that."
"I don't care. He can punch me for as long as he wants, and I won't fight back. If that will prove my regret, I will do anything," Theo said firmly. "And I hope that by the end of it, it means we can be together again."
Theo looked away after speaking, avoiding her eyes. Gwen studied his handsome face, searching for any hint of insincerity, but found none.
Gwen let out a heavy sigh as she shut her eyes. She muttered, 'Should I still keep guarding my heart?'
Two days passed. For the last two nights, Gwen had no choice but to share a bed with Theo, as Ian was still unsettled by the attack and wanted both his parents to sleep beside him.
Ian experienced a few nightmares, occasionally forcing Gwen and Theo to get up and tend to him. Because of Theo's help, Gwen realized how much better it was to have him in Ian's life.
Gwen could not imagine being alone in this plight with Ian. So, when morning came, Gwen showed her gratitude. While she leaned on the pile of pillows and held her pup against her chest, she said, "Thank you, Theo, for being here for Ian."
Theo had just gotten out of bed. He was about to head to the shower when she called his name. He turned to her with a smile on his face. He walked toward her and said, "I'm Ian's father. Of course, I'll be there for him, but if you'd like to thank me, don't push me away."
Gwen frowned, bemused, but before she knew it, Theo kissed her lips!
Her heart raced, but she could not do anything because Ian was sleeping on her chest, nor did she hate the kiss.
Gwen was rendered speechless as Theo backed away. He smiled and said, "I'll get ready now -"
Then, Theo suddenly stilled, his eyes looking in no particular direction. He took a deep breath and revealed, "King Arthur is at the borders. Wake Ian up. Let's get ready to meet the king."
~ Madison ~
In Madison's home, she received the news from the other warriors. King Arthur Hazma has arrived!
She drove to the nearby hotel where her aunt, Melissa Emry, had stayed overnight.
Her Aunt, Melissa Emry, a financial adviser for Dradhold Castle, arrived the other day to prepare for the king's visit. Finally, the moment they had been waiting for arrived.
When her aunt opened the door, Madison said, "Aunt, the king is here!"
Her aunt, Melissa, smiled. She suggested, "Then, let's get ready. Don't worry. I will tell the king about your outstanding contributions here in the pack. He will be so pleased; the king will agree with my proposal to make you the luna of Port Leon. It won't be long, and Lucius's daughter will be out of the picture soon."
