“What about the food?” Theo asked one of the hotel managers.
“We managed to deliver, Alpha, despite the late notice,” the hotel manager answered.
“And is the king settled?” Theo asked.
“Yes, he’s been resting in his room for the past two hours,” the man replied. “We’ll be ready for an early lunch, Alpha.”
Because it was the king, Theo ordered His Royal Highness’ arrival to be celebrated at Port Leon Grand Hotel. It was the best hotel in town, with a presidential suite fit for a king and several ballrooms to house special occasions. Theo, for one, booked the first ballroom.
His warriors were already on guard around the hotel and outside the ballroom door. The elders and their families, including Theo’s sick mother, arrived.
When Theo looked at the door, he frowned, seeing Caroline pushing his mother in a wheelchair. He had been so busy after the attack on the pack that he had failed to visit Catherine. When he called Caroline the other day, his sister implied Catherine was fine.
“Mother, since when have you not been able to walk?” Theo asked with a frown. “Why haven’t you told me?”
“We went to the hospital last, and Mom received new medications. She was feeling better yesterday, but -” Caroline frowned and said, “Today, she struggled to get up from the bed.”
“Didn’t you take the tea Gwen gave you?” Theo asked.
Catherine glanced at Caroline, and the latter let out a sigh of irritation. She revealed, “I threw it away!”
“What?” Theo growled. “Why did you do that? That could have helped Mother!”
“Don’t you know that Gwen has been helping the warriors from Cada, and now they are conscious. Dunken, who was badly wounded, will be due for discharge in a few days!” Theo barked. “Gwen knows what she is doing, she is -”
Theo paused because Gwen did not want her identity to be revealed. However, he knew it was bound to happen when the king joined them for lunch that day, but based on his experience, his sister was not one to believe too easily. He pointed at Caroline, saying, “Mark my word. After today, you will beg Gwen to heal our mother!”
“What do you mean, Theo?” Catherine weakly asked.
Before Theo could answer, Gwen turned up with her brother, Ian, and Jacob. Rollin was with them too. He was fully healed, and as far as Theo knew, it only took two tea sessions with Gwen to get Rollin back to full health.
“Alpha?” Rollin approached, asking, “Where do Luna Gwen and Ian stay?”
“Gwen and Ian will stay with me, of course,” Theo said. “With the same table as the king. All pack elders will stay at the next table to the king.”
“Theo? Have you lost your mind?” Caroline screamed, and Theo heard the other elders who were settled down whisper among each other.
“And why are you calling Gwen your luna?” Caroline barked at Rollin. “Theo and Gwen are divorced!”
“Why not? Ian is my son, and Gwen is his mother,” Theo answered. “In the eyes of the Moon Goddess, we are still not divorced since the rejection ceremony was never completed.”
“But - but,” Caroline was fuming as she tried to defend her justification. However, Theo growled, saying, “Do not humiliate me before the king and take your seat. Be an obedient warrior to your alpha!”
Theo saw Caroline stare at Gwen with daggers in her eyes. Nonetheless, Gwen seemed unaffected as she took her assigned seat.
Another few minutes passed, and more influential pack members made their appearance. Madison turned up with her aunt, and they joined Catherine at the same table. Theo did not particularly invite Madison, but he knew Caroline did.
In time, over sixty guests from the pack arrived, along with warriors from the king’s entourage. King Arthur also made his entrance, but to everyone’s surprise, he appeared in a wheelchair with Beta Ivor guiding him.
Everyone stood up from their seats and bowed to the king. Theo marched to King Arthur, greeting him, “Welcome, King Arthur, to Port Leon. It had been a long time since your last visit.”
Arthur shook his head. He replied, “It has indeed, and I never expected to come here in such a predicament.”
The king looked around, and seeing the gathering, he remarked, “You didn’t have to prepare this. I only came here for you and -”
“Your Highness, it’s nice to see you here,” a woman greeted behind Theo, and everyone’s attention was on her. Theo immediately realized this was Madison’s aunt.
“Oh, Melissa, what brings you here?” The king asked, and he stretched his hand to Melissa.
Melissa kissed the king’s hand and responded, “Your Highness, I came to visit my niece.” She motioned for Madison, and the latter quickly walked towards them. “This is Madison, my beautiful niece.”
King Arthur, although appearing weak, smiled at Madison and complimented her, “She is beautiful indeed.”
Melissa first greeted Beta Ivor before boasting, “Madison here is one of the strongest female warriors in Port Leon. Her parents have been working abroad since she was in high school, so she has grown to be independent. In Port Leon, she had initiated training programs for aspiring female warriors and Theo’s sister, Caroline.”
“Within the pack, she is considered an influential female figure.” Melissa gestured with her hands, directing them to the women around. “Many young women look up to her for guidance.”
“My niece was one of those warriors who had fought bravely for the freedom of Port Leon from Lucius Darwin, and she is Theo’s fiance!” Melissa added, shocking Theo. What made it even worse was how the elders and surrounding pack members, including Gwen and Ian, heard it all!
“Hello, Your Highness. It’s nice to meet you,” Madison greeted with a smile.
“Ah, yes, I think I heard about that. So you are that fiance,” Arthur smiled.
“Yes, Theo and Madison were together before Lucius took over Port Leon. They would have gotten married if not for someone who forced Theo to marry Lucius’ daughter,” Melissa said, rolling her eyes.
“Excuse me, Miss Emry, but you have no full knowledge of what happened in the past,” Theo said through gritted teeth. “So, I’d appreciate it if you keep your remarks to yourself.”
“And as for my engagement with Madison, it’s been canceled,” Theo said with conviction.
“Canceled? Why Theo?” The king asked.
“Exactly my thoughts, Your Highness. Maybe you could sway Alpha Theo to resume their marriage plans, for the sake of the pack who needs a luna and for the sake of my niece!” Melissa suggested.
“That’s thoughtful advice,” the king remarked. “Theo truly needs a luna, even if he can’t have an heir. Every alpha requires a partner—not just for love and affection, but as a vital ally. A luna brings balance, strength, and emotional support, helping to guide and stabilize the pack alongside her alpha.”
“I agree with you, My King,” Caroline said, walking in their direction. “I am Caroline Erhart, Theo's sister. No one else is fit to be Theo’s luna but Madison. She had loved him for as long as I can remember.”
“There you have it, Theo! You have a beautiful woman who loves you. You should go on with your marriage,” the king proposed.
“But.” Theo gritted his teeth. He revealed, “I have a luna -”
“Are we still talking about the one who disappeared? The same one whom you could not get over with?” The king asked. “But Theo, where is she now? It’s time to give your heart a chance and love someone else.”
“I agree with the king, Theo,” Beta Ivor echoed Arthur’s sentiments, and the elders around them said the same.
It irritated Theo because the elders of Port Leon knew of his wishes to be with Gwen, yet they still agreed with Madison’s aunt. They did not care that Gwen and Ian were in the same room!
“I can’t,” Theo answered. “My king, you’d be glad to know I found my wife.”
Madison, Caroline, and Melissa frowned at Theo’s response. He also felt the stares of the elders and the rest of the pack members around him.
“Say that again, Theo?” Arthur asked.
“I have found my wife. She had been living in Southern Alfar all along, doing what she loved to do,” Theo revealed.
“And that is?” The king inquired.
“Being a doctor,” Theo said. He turned to Gwen’s direction and revealed, “Your Highness. You have probably already met her. She is Gwen, also known as Doctor Weneth.”
After Theo revealed Gwen, the king’s eyes rounded. He called, “Doctor Weneth! It’s so good to see you!”
Gasps echoed in the ballroom, and jaws dropped.
Melissa and Madison formed various frowns.
Caroline, for one, said, “How?”
