                    ~ Caroline ~
“Doctor Weneth! It’s so good to see you!” King Arthur said to Gwen. The way the king called with eagerness stunned Caroline.
She could not help but wonder, “How? How does the king know Gwen?”
“Ivor, take me to the doctor,” the king commanded, and the royal beta, although looking baffled, did as instructed.
“Doctor Weneth?” The king asked the moment he stood before Gwen. “You are Theo’s wife?”
Simultaneously, Caroline and Madison stared at each other in shock. Catherine, whom Caroline had left in the middle of the aisle, also looked bemused.
“What’s going on?” Melissa, Madison’s aunt, asked.
From where they stood, they watched as Theo followed behind the king. He said, “Yes, My King. Doctor Weneth’s real name is Gweneth. In Southern Alfar, she calls herself Doctor Weneth.”
Theo turned to Gwen, asking, “Isn’t that right, Gwen?”
“Um.” Gwen smiled. “We were married, but we divorced -”
“But our rejection ceremony was not completed,” Theo intercepted.
“Wow, this is a surprise!” King Arthur remarked. “So, if I got this story right, Doctor Weneth’s son was kidnapped from Southern Alfar and was taken to our nation. Theo saved the doctor’s son. Sounds like the work of fate to me.”
“It is fate, My King,” Theo responded. “Especially since Gwen’s son is mine.”
There was silence in the air before the king reacted, “But - but I thought you couldn’t get any she-wolf pregnant?”
“That’s what I thought too,” Theo answered. He motioned for Ian, and the pup presented himself to the King. “But as you can see, he is my son. I can smell my blood in him. Moreover, I already had the hospital confirm our relationship through a paternity test.”
“I don’t know how or what went wrong, Your Highness, but there is no doubt about it. Ian is my son with Gwen,” Theo added with confidence.
“My goddess! What a stunning resemblance!” It was Beta Ivor who remarked.
Ian bowed before the king and said, “Hello, Your Highness. My name is Ian.”
“And there is one thing that I failed to tell you, My King,” Theo revealed. “The truth is I was blinded by my hate in the past. Gwen is my fated mate, but I chose to ignore it. That was why I could not forget her.”
“Doctor Weneth, is your fated mate?” The king asked in shock. He said, “Theo, you should not ignore the fate given to you! The mate bond is a divine connection given by the Moon Goddess. Disrespecting the bond would be akin to rejecting a blessing from a higher power -”
“I know that now, Your Highness,” Theo said with his head bowed down. “I’m sure you had seen through my regret as well.”
Irked by Theo’s response, Caroline charged in the King’s direction, saying, “But My King, you have to understand that Gwen’s father had killed many of our loved ones. She is Lucius’ daughter! Surely, you can understand why we can’t accept her as part of our pack!”
The king turned to Caroline, and Beta Ivor helped him adjust his wheelchair. Arthur asked, “You poor child. Lucius’ misdeeds have wounded your heart and soul. I understand your pain. Remember how I had secretly helped your rebellion against Lucius because I also thought he was evil and was a threat to the crown.”
“But, can I ask you something?” The king inquired. “What if your father had sinned against me? Would it be fair if I punished you on his behalf?”
The king’s question took Caroline aback. She paled and froze in her stance as she glanced at Theo.
“It wouldn’t be,” Theo responded on Caroline’s behalf. “That’s the reason Gwen left, Your Highness. My pack and I wronged her, but I’m committed to making things right and correcting past mistakes.”
“Well now,” the king said. “This is your chance to make up for everything, Theo. Since you and Gwen have a pup together, and you are fated, I recommend you honor the destiny that has been granted to you -”
“But, My King!” Finally, Madison’s aunt spoke. “What about my niece? Woulnd’t she be the better luna for this pack? Didn’t you say that Theo should move on with Madison?”
Melissa Emry addressed the king, saying, “I don’t know if this fate that Theo speaks of is true, but the bigger question is, is she qualified to be a luna? Will being a doctor luna be enough to compliment Theo?”
“Why wouldn’t it be?” The king reacted. “Doctor Weneth here is not just an ordinary doctor! Don’t you know?”
The king looked around, making the pack members confused. Then, Arthur revealed, “Doctor Weneth is the famous miracle doctor of Southern Alfar! Many werewolves from across the globe seek her treatment, including me!”
“It was not too long ago that I was already bedridden, but with only a week of treatment with Doctor Wenneth, I was able to stand and walk. Due to unforeseen circumstances, my treatment had been disrupted, and my health deteriorated again,” the king revealed. “That is why I am here!”
“I am here for Doctor Weneth, the miracle doctor,” the king repeated.
Whispers echoed in the room, stunned by Arthur’s announcement.
“No way! Gwen is special?”
“Do you remember Agatha’s prophecy? It might actually be true.”
“The miracle doctor?” Odesa, one of the elders of the pack, muttered. “I have heard of this.”
“Gwen is the miracle doctor?” Farkas, another elder, echoed. “They said that Southern Alfar’s miracle doctor could cure any illnesses.”
“That is exactly why she is called a miracle doctor,” the king revealed. “I’m sure everyone here knows about my health problem. I have sought many doctors, but no one was able to at least alleviate my symptoms, but Doctor Weneth did. So, by coming here, I hope to resume my treatment with her.”
Hearing the truth about Gwen, Caroline’s body trembled. She felt blood drained out of her face as she turned to her weak mother. Then, she remembered how she had thrown away the tea that was meant for Catherine.
“Port Leon, let it be known that Doctor Weneth has a special talent for healing,” the king announced before the crowd. “If Port Leon has a miracle doctor like her, imagine the blessings that would come to you? It would boost the pack’s morale, enhance longevity, and attract tourists and skilled workers.”
“It could even strengthen defense cooperation. Allied packs might offer more protection, knowing the miracle doctor benefits everyone. This mutual defense would forge a stronger partnership,” the king added. “There is a lot more. I could go on and on, but I think, we are all smart enough to know what else a miracle doctor can offer to the pack.”
No one objected to the king because there was no reason for him to lie. Caroline immediately thought of Theo’s words earlier, and as she stared at him, he mindlinked, ‘Don’t you see now? It’s your fault that our mother’s health has further declined. If only you had let Gwen attend to her.’
Caroline suddenly felt an ache in her chest. Because she stared at her mother, Catherine fell into tears, her head subtly shaking in regret.
Guilt washed over Caroline because now she realized she had deprived her mother of a possible cure for her condition.
While Caroline was still lost in her thoughts, Madison suddenly reported, “But, Gwen might not be as beneficial as you think. She had invited rogues into our pack, causing our warriors to be wounded and even her colleagues to die!”
“She must have made some serious enemies, which would explain why her son has been kidnapped! There’s a good chance Gwen is involved in illegal activities, and this attack is just the beginning,” Madison speculated sharply. “Your Highness, if you haven’t heard, rogues recently attacked us. They weren’t just targeting anyone—they were specifically after Gwen!”
“And we don’t want that, Your Highness. We don’t want that kind of luna that brings harm to our pack!” Madison added with conviction.
“Excuse me?” The king let out a low growl, and suddenly, the temperature around the room dropped. “You have no idea what you are talking about!”
Caroline did not know what was happening, but Madison seemed to have angered the king.
