“Thank you, Your Highness, for understanding,” Theo said to King Alexander.
“I understand. I will leave you so you both can talk,” Alexander responded calmly. “But instead of staying in this gathering, I want to see my men, including Silas and Rafi. I need to update their families as soon as possible.”
Theo nodded. He mindlinked with his beta and said to Alexander, “My beta will accompany you and your men to the hospital. Then, you can see the morgue after.”
“Thank you, Theo,” Alexander said.
When Theo and Gwen were alone in the private conference room, they discussed Alexander’s account of the past.
“I suppose his request is reasonable,” Gwen remarked.
“I agree,” Theo acknowledged. “There is no harm in keeping the queen away. She might get mad, but King Arthur will be healed.”
Theo held Gwen’s arm and asked, “You can heal him, right?”
Gwen nodded. “Yes.”
“Then, let’s go back. I can feel Ian is looking for us,” Theo suggested.
He was about to guide Gwen outside when she paused and expressed, “Thank you for putting Madison in her place. Thank you for defending me.”
It wasn’t like Gwen to be happy about other people’s humiliation, but she honestly has had enough with Madison and Caroline. Gwen especially disliked how Madison’s aunt had tried to use her position in the castle to influence the king’s decision about Theo’s life.
“I should have done that a long time ago,” Theo said. “I did what I am supposed to do as your mate and Ian’s father.”
“Well, I sure hope today’s affair will change how your people treat me,” Gwen muttered.
“They would be blind if they continued to hate you, and I would be forced to kick them out of my pack,” Theo said before glancing at the door. “Let’s go.”
Theo and Gwen made it back to the gathering. Before they could reach Gwen’s parents, Ian ran towards Theo. He screamed, “Daddy! Daddy, meet Grandma and Grandpa!”
Ian was so thrilled, telling his grandparents, “Grandma, Grandpa, this is my daddy! He is a strong alpha! And we look alike!”
“Why are you frowning, Grandpa?” Ian asked before wrinkling his nose. “Don’t you like my daddy? He saved me twice from the bad guys! He also saved Mommy! He is very strong and fast. Right, Mommy?”
Ian looked at Gwen with pleading eyes. She nodded, saying, “Yes. Your father is very strong.”
When Ian glanced back at his grandparents, Gwen sighed. She knew her son already understood Theo’s status within their family, so the pup protected him in ways only he knew how.
“And we are thankful,” finally Juliet spoke. She stood up and greeted Theo. “Alpha Theo, your reputation precedes you.”
After Juliet, Gwen’s father stood up. He declared, “Boy, in my eyes, you are a boy, and we have a score to settle.”
The moment George Allard said that Ian embraced Theo. He glared at his grandfather and said, “What are you going to do, Grandpa?” Then, the pup turned and stretched his limbs, shielding Theo. He announced, “You will have to go through me!”
Theo coughed against his fist. He cleared his throat and said to Ian, “No, Son. Remember what Daddy said. I made mistakes too. We all should face the consequences of our actions. So, your father will not run away.”
He tapped Ian’s shoulder, saying, “Daddy can handle anything.”
Afterward, Theo put Ian behind his back and bowed to Gwen’s parents. He greeted, “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. and Mrs. Allard. I could never take back the wrongs of the past, but I wish to make amends in any way I can. I am prepared to face my punishment.”
He stood upright and said, “Welcome to Port Leon, and this is Ian’s future pack to rule.”
When Theo pointed out how Ian was his alpha heir, George let out a low growl. Baron did the same while he was in his seat. Jacob, on the other hand, shook his head.
“Be ready, boy,” George said. “Be ready for me.”
Before Theo could face off with Gwen’s father, however, some things needed to be addressed. One of them included Catherine Erhart.
As Gwen and Theo conversed with George and Juliet, she sensed a piercing gaze on her. Turning to see, she realized it was Theo’s mother watching her intently, her eyes begging for mercy.
Gwen was approaching Catherine when she suddenly noticed Caroline arguing with Theo’s mother. She did not have to be a genius to know that Caroline denied her mother from asking Gwen’s help.
‘Never mind,’ she thought. Gwen returned her attention to her family, but soon, she heard someone call out to her.
“Gwen, can you help me, please.”
Goosebumps. Gwen felt goosebumps all over the second she heard Catherine’s voice.
Almost everyone turned to Catherine, including Theo. Gwen fluttered her eyes, hesitating, but soon, she turned to Jacob and instructed, “Help me prepare a tea for Theo’s mother, Jacob.”
“Why?” Jacob asked with sarcasm in his tone. His reply granted a growl from Theo.
“She is still my mother, Jacob.” Theo glanced at Gwen, asking, “Can we do what we can to help her?”
“Jacob, please,” Gwen begged, and so he left the table to prepare tea for Theo’s mother.
Earlier, before serving tea to King Arthur, Gwen had requested a private room from Theo, one that she and Jacob could use simply to make tea. It was the only way to keep her ability a secret.
A few minutes later, Jacob returned with a warm cup of tea. Gwen took it and walked towards Catherine.
Theo’s mother sat alongside the other elders, including Caroline. As Gwen made her way toward them, she couldn’t help but notice the tension in Caroline’s expression, her face tight with reluctance.
When Gwen stood before their presence, she bowed and said, “Mrs. Erhart, please take this tea; it will help you feel better.”
“How do we know it’s not poisoned?” Caroline asked.
“Caroline, really?” Theo barked. “I should -”
Theo cut off his words from a distance because Gwen raised her hand. It was her way of telling Theo that she could handle the situation. She calmly placed the teacup on the table, scooped up a bit of the tea with an empty spoon, and took a sip. Afterward, Gwen stated, “I have no intention of harming myself. You can rest assured—this isn’t poison.”
“Alpha Theo,” King Arthur said from across the table. “It looks like your sister has not learned her lesson yet.”
While Caroline crouched in her seat, Gwen said to King Arthur, “It’s okay, Your Highness. Caroline is just being protective of her mother.”
She pushed the tea in Catherine’s direction and proposed, “Please drink up. Then, if you would allow me. After today, I would like to reevaluate your condition. We can meet daily until you are better.”
Catherine’s hands trembled as she took the tea and drank it. Even if the beverage was still hot, she finished it quickly. The second she put the tea down, she cried and let out a sigh of relief.
Drinking a drop of blood from Gwen always had an immediate impact, but it can only boost one’s vitality for a short time. Theo’s mother needed a few more days of treatment in order to become fully healed.
“I -” Catherine sniffed her tears away. She said, “I feel a little better already.”
“No, no, please don’t misunderstand,” Gwen clarified. “The tea I gave you was only meant to provide some temporary relief. It contains a blend of herbs that support your organ functions, but the actual treatment is still to come. So, Mrs. Erhart, I hope you will consider me as your doctor to guide you through a full recovery.”
These were Gwen’s usual lines whenever a patient immediately felt the effect of her blood in their system. The last thing she wanted was for the public to learn and exploit her secret.
“I will,” Catherine nodded profusely. “I will.”
Gwen smiled. She answered, “Then, I will see you tomorrow, Mrs. Erhart.”

Hours later, Theo stood before George Allard at the packhouse’s backyard. He watched as George seethed in anger, his body expanding and his eyes glowing.
“Are you ready to make amends, boy?” George asked.
With clenched jaws, Theo answered, “Ready, Sir - Ahhh! Fuck!”
Before he knew it, George’s fist came in contact with Theo’s face!
