“I can’t believe Alpha Theo is willing to do this,” Rollin said under his breath, and the comment did not miss Gwen’s ears.
Gwen turned to Rollin. He was standing two meters away with Brody, ready to assist their alpha should he need assistance.
To Gwen’s right were Baron and Jacob. They were in the pack’s backyard, watching Theo and George face each other. Theo and George had their shirts off, ready for what was coming.
‘Dad, I don’t know about this,’ Gwen linked with her father.
‘Do not interfere, Gwen. If he really is a changed man, he will face the consequences of hurting you,’ George linked back.
“Rrr. Take that!” George threw a hard punch at Theo’s face, making his nose bleed. “That’s for pinning Lucius’ sins on my daughter!”
“Fuck!” Theo stepped back, his face looking shocked from the strength of George’s attack.
“I bet he did not expect that,” Baron said before chuckling with Jacob.
“Alpha George has one of the strongest punches I know, and he has been preparing to deliver that to Theo,” Jacob remarked.
Gwen raised a brow. She wondered, ‘When has my father imagined punching Theo?’
She turned to Brody and Rollin, and they both had made various frowns. Then, she looked back at the packhouse and wondered if her son heard Theo cursing. Ian was with Juliet at the moment. They had purposely separated the pup from his father because George was determined to punish Theo.
When Gwen returned her attention to the backyard, Theo braced himself for another blow.
“Ahh!” George punched him in the face again, this time hitting Theo’s left cheek.
“That is for hurting my daughter!” George screamed. “Gwen was taken from us when she was still a baby! Do you realize how much she had been deprived of love, care, and affection? Then, you and your people had to add to her torment!”
George struck Theo in the gut, and it made him crouch down in discomfort.
“Ah - Fuck.” Theo groaned. Of course, Gwen knew that under normal circumstances, Theo would evade such attacks, but he willingly received them, clenching his jaws and taking deep breaths to control the pain.
“Get up, boy! We are not done yet!” George yelled.
“I’m up, Sir.” Theo nodded with his hands raised, and before he knew it, George smashed his fist into his face again!
“That’s for ignoring your destiny - the Moon Goddess’ will!” George said before continuing to deliver more blows.
“That’s for calling my daughter a slut! Even if she was unloved by you and your people, she devoted her time and her life for you, and that was how you repay her?” George was at it again, thrusting his fist against Theo’s face twice in a second!
“Ah!” Gwen ended up yelling because blood came out of Theo’s nose again, and he wound up stumbling to the ground, his breathing hitched.
Pain. Gwen felt Theo’s hurt. It was squeezing her heart that she struggled to breathe. She said, “Dad, maybe that’s enough -”
“No!” George yelled. He pointed to Theo, wide-eyed. “I need him to understand how much suffering you have endured. This is nothing compared to what you have been through!”
George grabbed Theo’s arms and forced him up. Theo did so willingly without any complaints.
“Go ahead,” Theo said. “If this is the only way I can redeem myself, I will endure everything - Ahh!”
After another punch, George yelled, “That’s for Ian! For the number of years that he was without a father!”
The last blow was probably the strongest. George had aimed at Theo’s stomach again, and the latter wound up falling on his knees, his hand clutching his belly.
“Alpha!” Brody screamed. He was about to run after Theo, but his alpha raised a hand to stop him.
“I can handle this - Brody! Stay back!” Theo commanded.
George gave him a solid right hook to the face. He was about to deliver another punch when Gwen screamed, “Stop! Stop, Dad!”
She ran towards Theo and stood before him, preventing her father from throwing in another blow. She said, “Stop! That’s enough!”
It wasn’t just the ache that Gwen had discerned. It was also Theo’s regret. Somehow, she felt it in the connection they remained to share as fated mates. She could feel his heart bleeding with all the fact that her father had rubbed in Theo’s face.
“It’s - it’s okay, Gwen,” Theo said while pushing her aside. “Step back. I can take it.”
“Step aside now, Gwen! Now!” her father demanded.
“Step aside, Gwen,” Theo repeated, his hand propelling her out of the way.
It wasn’t only Theo’s emotions that were overwhelming. Gwen noticed it with her father too. He was brought back to the day when he learned of all her suffering under Lucius’ hands and that of the pack members of Port Leon. He was weeping as he gave Theo another punch. His body was expanding in fury, and his eyes were glowing.
George was this close to shifting into his alpha wolf!
In the next few seconds, Gwen also found herself crying. She felt helpless in the situation because she knew her father wanted to vent, but she also genuinely sensed Theo’s remorse.
“That was not my dream for my daughter,” George revealed. His eyes were now red for both anger and tears. “As her fated mate, you should have been the first to protect her, not throw her away! So, I’m sorry, young alpha -”
George pointed a finger at Theo, declaring, “I’m not a violent alpha, but you deserve each and every punch!”
“Dad!” Gwen approached her father this time. She looked him in the eye and begged, “It’s enough. Theo has had enough. “He is not even fighting back.”
“As he should,” George said before calming his inner wolf. The glow in his eyes slowly returned to his regular purple color.
Still addressing Theo, George said, “I’m done with you for now, Theo, but I don’t know if this will be the last heated encounter we will ever have.”
George looked at Baron and Jacob, saying, “I’ll return to the hotel now.”
“You and Ian should come with us,” George suggested.
Gwen wavered. She carelessly wiped the tears streaming down her face before she glanced at Theo.
Theo was on his fours, breathing heavily on the ground. When he looked up at Gwen, she saw the cuts and bruises on his face. Aside from that, his nose was clearly broken, and his eyes were beginning to swell. Blood was dripping from his nose.
“No, Dad,” Gwen said. “I’ll help Theo. Ian won’t want to see him like this. Why don’t you take Ian back to the hotel, and I’ll come for him later.”
She noticed her father hesitate, but she assured him, “Theo won’t hurt me.”
“Yes, he won’t. He has already done that,” George reminded.
All Gwen could do was look down and sway her head in agreement. She declared, “I’ll still help him, Dad.”
“Fine,” George said. He walked past her, saying, “We will wait for you at the hotel.”
“Brody.” Theo weakly commanded, “Take Mr. and Mrs. Allard back to the hotel. Arrange whatever is necessary for their accommodation.”
“Y -yes, Alpha,” Brody responded.
Minutes later, Theo was in his room. He was sitting on a chair with his head down, his elbows resting on his knees.
Gwen had walked in carrying a small basin of warm water mixed with healing herbs. She kneeled before Theo and placed the basin next to her. Softly, she said, “Let’s clean you up -”
Before she could even touch him, Theo embraced her tightly. He heaved and said, “I’m sorry again, Gwen. You have to know by now how much I regretted everything.”
Gwen closed her eyes. Her senses heightened. She could sense Theo’s heartbeat as she accepted the hold, and their bodies pressed together. She could hear him sniff a tear or two, attempting to hold back his emotions.
“You have to believe me,” Barely a whisper, Theo said. “Please.”
“I believe you,” Gwen responded. She wrapped her arms tighter around him, adding, “I believe you, Theo.”
Theo pulled away. His eyes flickered as he stared at her intently. He asked, “Do you mean that?”
