                    ~ Gwen ~
“Your Highness, King Alexander had been preparing to leave for Southern Alfar. There were some documents required to take corpses out of the country. He had been working on those since yesterday. I’m sure he will come to see you soon,” Gwen responded. Then, very quickly, the memory of Silas and Rafi invaded her mind, making her woeful.
“Were you friends with them? Alexander’s warriors that died?” The king asked.
Gwen gasped and answered, “Not close, but in the short time I had known them, I could tell they were good fighters and allies.”
“I’m sorry, Gwen. I did not expect this at all,” the king reacted. “I feel regretful for their deaths. I understand that Theo had prepared gifts of gratitude to the warriors’ family. I have instructed Ivor to arrange the same. I promise to reward you handsomely when this is all over.”
Gwen smiled as she approached Arthur and suggested, “Your Highness, the best way to reward me and the warriors who gave their lives for you is by taking care of your health. I trust Theo to ensure your safety here, and I’m confident this hospital will provide you with the best medical care. All I ask is that you stay here until you’re fully recovered.”
A chuckle left Arthur’s lips, and he remarked, “You are starting to sound like my brother.”
Just as the king said, Gwen noticed Arthur’s brows furrowed. He muttered, “Hazel. I’m sorry.”
Gwen realized that the king was mindlinking with his wife. Arthur gazed at Gwen and revealed, “Hazel is at Port Leon’s entrance, arguing with Theo. She wants to see me. She wants me to go back home.”
She hesitated, but eventually, Gwen answered, “I’m sorry, Your Highness, but I won’t allow it. As your doctor, I advise you against leaving. Your treatment should only be done here in Port Leon. Your Highness, we already agreed on this.”
Arthur was mindlinking again. Then, he suggested, “There should be nothing wrong with her seeing me, at least. She is my wife.” He hissed and added, “I will tell Theo.”
Two minutes later, the king declared, “I instructed Theo to let Hazel in. She, at least, has the right to see me.”
It could not be helped. Moments later, Queen Hazel was inside King Arthur’s room. She looked furious as she reported, “What is the meaning of this, Arthur? I was treated like a criminal! I brought food and gifts for you, but Theo said I could not bring them inside the pack unless they were properly tested for poisons! You know what I did? I threw them away in a fit of anger! Theo was practically accusing me of bringing poison!”
Arthur turned to Theo, so he explained, “Your Highnesses, I’m sure you are aware of the increasing presence of poison we’ve been encountering lately. We have reason to believe these are being mixed into food and water. In fact, during the recent attack, the rogues’ claws were laced with poison. The inspection was simply a routine procedure I implemented yesterday.”
“Theo is right, Hazel. There was nothing wrong with inspecting the gifts you brought me,” Arthur defended Theo’s actions.
Hazel gritted her teeth. She cast an angry look at Theo before she raised, “Okay, what about your queen being frisked! Theo’s warrior did a full body security inspection on me before entering your room!”
“Everyone, including the medical staff, undergoes the same security check,” Theo said through gritted teeth.
Gwen internally hissed because she was obviously an exception to this rule. Of course, they could not tell the queen that.
“Yes, Hazel. Even Ivor undergoes the same security check,” Arthur reluctantly replied. “Theo’s hospital, his rules.”
“But we are his king and queen!” Hazel highlighted. “He should follow our orders!”
“My rules are for the betterment of everyone inside my pack. It’s a policy that I also think the capital should enforce. Who knows, poisons are slipping into Dradhold Castle,” Theo suggested.
“That is nonsense! Who would dare bring poisons into the castle,” Hazel returned her attention to the king and instead proposed, “Arthur, I heard that Alexander is here. I do not trust him around you. Let’s just go home.”
“I’m sorry, Hazel. I will stay here. I already agreed with the doctor and Alpha Theo to complete my treatment in Port Leon,” Arthur said to his wife. “Besides, Alexander has not seen me since I was admitted to the hospital.”
“What? Why won’t you leave?” Hazel reacted strongly. She snapped at Gwen, saying, “What advice have you given my husband? Are you really helping him? Why do I feel like your treatment only made him worse!”
Her reaction shocked Gwen. She wound up responding, “I have never failed, Your Highness. Something else made his condition worse. The king was doing much better before I left Dradhold Castle.”
“What are you trying to imply?” Queen Hazel said back.
“I’m not implying anything other than his illness. Since our treatment was disrupted, a setback happened,” Gwen answered.
Queen Hazel wept before the king, saying, “Arthur, let’s just go home. We can ask the doctor to go to the palace!”
“I won’t allow it!” Theo said firmly. “With all due respect, My Queen, the last time my wife tried to leave my pack, she was nearly killed. Gwen’s life, along with my child’s, has been at risk. They are not leaving Port Leon. King Arthur has already agreed to finish his treatment here, and that decision is final.”
“Your child?” Queen Hazel was taken aback by Theo’s revelation.
Theo explained, “The doctor is my wife, and we share a child together.”
Gwen honestly thought the queen would ask more about her identity, but instead, she turned to the king and suggested, “Arthur, be reasonable. Let’s go home.”
“I can’t, Hazel. Please do not argue with the doctor and Theo. I honestly believe this is the best for me too,” the king responded, angering Hazel further.
Gwen could tell the queen was about to snap at her or Theo, but suddenly, Rollin said by the door, “Luna Gwen, Alpha George, and Luna Juliet are here to see you.”
Rollin had been standing behind them the whole time. He opened the door, partly allowing Gwen to see who was outside.
Gwen stepped out to inform her parents that the queen was there to visit the king. George and Juliet agreed to wait for her in the hospital lobby. When Gwen reentered the room, she told Theo, “My parents would like to speak to us outside.”
After that, Gwen was ready to face a more challenging rebuttal from the queen, but to her shock, Hazel said to the king, “Fine. If that’s what you wish, Arthur. You stay here, but I won’t. I have duties to fulfill!”
Outside the door, Queen Hazel ordered her royal guards, “Let’s leave! Tell the driver to bring the car around the hospital’s back entrance!”
“Hazel?” The king called. “Wait!”
She left in a hurry and did not even look back when Arthur repeatedly called her name.
The queen’s sudden change of heart confused Gwen profusely, and she could tell it puzzled Rollin and Theo too!
“Huh?” King Arthur said. “I honestly thought we would fight about it until evening.”
Regardless of the queen’s reasons, with her gone, Gwen was relieved. She returned to finish her work. She instructed the nurse and on-call doctor before finally seeing her parents in the hospital lobby. As per George’s request, Gwen brought Theo with her.
“What do you think your parents want to talk about?” Theo asked.
Gwen gasped. She answered, “I can only assume it’s about us.”
To Gwen’s surprise, the second she met her mother, Juliet pulled her aside, and George followed. In one corner of the lobby, Juliet said to her, “Gwen, I felt a strong presence just now.”
“We felt it,” George added. “There is another one of us here in Port Leon.”
Raising a brow, Gwen asked, “One of us? Who?”
