“Did you feel something, Luna Juliet?” Theo asked.
“It’s gone,” Juliet answered. She looked at her husband.
George said the same, “I don’t feel it anymore.”
After Gwen’s parents declared they felt another presence of one of their own, they requested to go around the facility in search of this individual. They had left Ian in Baron’s care at the hotel so they could roam around as needed.
“If you tell me who we are looking for, I’ll order my men to search the entire pack,” Theo suggested.
Juliet opened her mouth and wavered. She looked at George before hinting, “An old relative, whom we thought had already died.”
“Who is it, Mother?” Gwen inquired.
Yet again, Juliet and George looked at each other. Then, George said, “Let’s talk about it privately.”
“Then, we shall go to my office at the packhouse,” Theo declared.
“We’d rather talk to Gwen about it alone,” Juliet said.
“But don’t you want my help to find this person? In my pack, I am your best bet in finding him or her,” Theo presented, and only then did Gwen’s parents agree.
Minutes later, they were in Theo’s office. Gwen thought they would go straight to the point about the person her parents were interested in finding. However, George said in his seat, “Before anything else. I want to point out that while we are asking for your cooperation in this, Theo, this doesn’t mean that I approve of you getting back with my daughter.”
“And you, Gwen, I am very disappointed that you never consulted us about this,” George added.
“Um - um. What?” Gwen asked. Of course, she tried to deny it.
“What do you mean, what? You think we did not hear Theo howling sensually over the past two days?” George replied. “Even if you had put on so much perfume, you forget that Theo did not cover his scent.”
George took a big whiff of Theo and declared, “It’s exactly as I had suspected. Theo smells like you, Gwen! It means only one thing: you both have mated!”
Gwen’s face burned. She looked at Theo, but he remained calm. Honestly, she never expected her parents to come to the hospital that day, so she also failed to anticipate how George had smelled her on Theo.
“Dad, I am an adult,” Gwen said. “And Theo loves Ian -”
“I love Gwen too,” Theo declared. “I will do anything to prove that to you, Alpha George and Luna Juliet.”
“You can’t blame us for not approving of you, but because of Ian, Juliet and I are willing to respect Gwen’s decisions. We won’t interfere, but we will be watchful,” George said.
“I’m sorry, Dad, Mom. I was trying to find the right moment to tell you of my decision to give Theo a chance,” Gwen said.
“Is this really what you want, Gwen?” Juliet asked.
When Gwen nodded, her mother said to Theo, “I believe in redemption, yes, but if you ever -”
“I won’t,” Theo replied quickly. “I will never make the same mistake again.”
Dead air fell upon them. Gwen felt like the temperature had dropped to zero degrees. Her father kept throwing daggers in Theo’s way, but after a minute, he sighed as he leaned back in his seat. George said, “Like I said, we will be watchful... Now, about the person we are looking for…”
Gwen saw George gaze at Juliet again. Then, her mother said, “We think it’s my older sister.”
“What?” Gwen asked, her eyes rounding in shock! “You have an older sister that I don’t know of?”
“Janice. Her name is Janice. She was someone we did not speak of because she had shamed our pack,” Juliet said. “It was ordered by my father, your departed grandfather, Gwen.”
“What did she do?” Gwen asked.
Gwen recognized her mother’s hesitation. She knew it had something to do with their pack’s secrets and with Theo in the room, she could not say everything.
“She broke the law. She wanted fame and fortune, but her means were not right,” Juliet explained. “So, she was supposed to be in prison at our pack, but she escaped. A year after she disappeared, we felt her connection to our pack snapped. Everyone just assumed she had died.”
“When did this happen?” Gwen asked.
“About fifty-three years ago. I was still young when it happened. I was ten,” Juliet revealed. “My sister, Janice, was twelve years older than me - the fruit of my parent’s love.”
“How does she look like?” Theo asked. “We have had werewolves who relocated from other packs, especially my conquered territories. I don’t know everyone, but their identities are accounted for. We will try to match them based on your description.”
“She has blonde hair like me. We have the same eyes. She is tall and has high cheekbones,” Juliet described. “Her scent was something I distinctly remembered because we used to share the same bed. She has an amber & bloodroot scent.”
“Then, I remember the days when she had committed those horrible things. Her aura changed. This was especially true if she was angry. She had developed suffocating energy as if she were always hungry for power,” Juliet said.
“So with how slow we age, she would look like she is still in her early thirties,” Theo added.
“Yes, more or less, maybe a little younger looking,” Juliet acknowledged.
“So, everyone in your pack has purple eyes?” Theo asked.
His question rattled Gwen, but her parents remained composed. Juliet responded, “Not everyone.”
“But Jacob isn’t related to you, right? But he also has the same eye condition,” Theo probed further.
“Yes, coincidentally, but not everyone. Maybe it’s in our environment that causes many of us to have purple eyes,” Juliet suggested.
“I’d really like to visit your home one day,” Theo indicated, and Gwen’s parents raised their brows at him.
“Whenever you feel like I deserve it,” Theo added. He cleared his throat and said, “Okay, well. With the description you gave me, I will ask my men to begin the search. I guess the only hindrance is if your older sister is hiding her scent, her eye color, and even her aura.”
“Yes, I understand that our energy can be suppressed, but earlier, I felt it so strongly, along with the familial bond. I thought it was coming from the same floor Gwen was on at the hospital, but the presence vanished as soon as we came looking for her,” Juliet shared.
Gwen and Theo looked at each other. Gwen said, “It could have been anyone.”
“Is your sister a possible threat?” Theo asked.
Juliet gasped and replied, “I don’t know, but she escaped punishment. She should still be paying for her sins. I don’t know if she has changed or realized her mistakes. I certainly hope so.”
“Well, if you tell me what she did, it will be easier for me to weigh the level of importance here,” Theo said.
Again, Juliet and George looked at each other. Gwen was sure they were mindlinking. Soon, Juliet replied, “She killed two pups.”
Silence filled the air as Theo sucked in a deep breath. His eyes narrowed as he declared, “Then, I’ll prioritize this. I don’t care how many years have passed. Lives were taken. Your sister must pay the price.”
After that meeting with Theo, Gwen requested that she take her parents home. Theo had matters to attend to, so Rollin drove them to the hotel. Finally, when they were in the hotel room, Gwen requested, “You have to tell me everything about my aunt, Mother. Why did she kill two pups?”
Baron was already there. Jacob was present too. They were confused about who Gwen was referring to.
“We can’t let Ian hear this,” Juliet said.
“Ian is sleeping like a rock,” Baron said. “I took him out for a run. He is pretty tired.”
Now that Theo was out of the picture, Gwen’s parents were more comfortable telling the story of her aunt. Juliet gathered everyone in the suite’s sitting area, and after telling Baron and Jacob about Janice, she explained, “I wasn’t going to bring up my older sister. She caused our family so much worry then. We were afraid that other packs would discover us because of what she did, but I guess I have no choice.”
“Janice, my sister, wanted to test how far her ability could go. She killed two pups from other packs and attempted to save their lives with her blood, but ultimately, she failed to revive them,” Juliet revealed.
“She is like me?” Gwen asked.
“Yes,” Juliet answered. “But when you are gifted with the ability to heal others, it doesn’t mean you can bring them back from the dead.”
“Because of what she did, other packs tried to look for the children’s murderer. Back then, my parents were torn about whether to surrender her. However, giving Janice up would also risk our lives and secrets. So, my parents, instead, imprisoned her, only for Janice to find an escape,” Juliet resumed.
“That’s awful, Mother,” Gwen said.
“I know,” Juliet said regretfully.
Two days passed without news about Gwen’s aunt. However, while Theo and his men searched for Janice, another alarming story reached the pack house.
Gwen and her parents met with Theo that day to get an update when Brody walked in to report, “Alpha, we have a problem.”
“What is it?” Theo asked.
“Madison wants to get out of the dungeons. She claims it’s not healthy for her because she might just be pregnant with your child,” Brody said.
“What?” Theo objected. “I did not even touch her.”
He turned to Gwen and promised, “I swear, Gwen. Nothing ever happened between us!”
“She claims she had inseminated herself at the hospital with your stored sample at the lab,” Brody said.
“I will kill her!” Theo growled.
