“Madison’s aunt, Melissa, still lingered in the pack and had pleaded with the elders to give her niece a better environment.” Brody shook his head and added, “She claims that no matter how wrong Madison’s actions were, she may still be carrying your pup.”
“If you ask me, Alpha, Madison is not liking the dungeons, and she could be making this up. Still, two elders, Gallagher and Odessa, asked that we investigate the matter,” Brody revealed. “They said that since you had a son with Gwen, it’s likely that the analysis of your fertility is incorrect.”
Theo was fuming. He did not expect that this was the kind of news his beta would deliver before Gwen and her parents. He wavered, but eventually, he argued, “But I am considered infertile! I already had myself tested again, remember?”
He turned to Gwen’s parents and suggested, “I think it was a miracle that Gwen conceived because I had myself re-tested, and the results were still the same. It sounds strange, but that’s the only way I can explain it.”
“Some sort of divine intervention by the Moon Goddess?” Brody asked, and Theo nodded.
“So, her efforts are futile in trying to get herself pregnant with my sperm because it will not happen!” Theo snapped.
“Wait.” Juliet raised her hand to ask, “Clarify that for me again, Theo. You had yourself tested. How? What exactly did the hospital say about your fertility?”
Theo gasped as everyone in the room waited for his reply. He belatedly answered, “It’s a problem with my sperm.”
He narrated everything, including the test done many years ago that resulted in him accusing Gwen of cheating. He said, “I thought that the hospital made a mistake. I wanted to have someone to blame for everything - for my decision to abandon Gwen, but the results are still the same. Not only did I ask a doctor whom I had begun to trust, but I also had my men monitor the entire study.”
Juliet and Gwen looked at each other before George echoed, “A Moon Goddess intervention.”
“I have no other way to explain it,” Theo said before turning to Gwen. “Gwen, if you want me to have another test, I’ll do it. You can monitor it if you like.”
“Theo, you might need to address this for now, so why don’t you go with your beta,” Juliet proposed. “Don’t worry. We will wait for your return. We will just be at the hotel.”
Theo glanced at Gwen. He could tell she was stressed by the news. It was evident in the way her face flushed and how her brows met. He said, “I’ll be back, Gwen.”
“She is not going to get pregnant with my child!” Theo barked at the elders, Odessa and Gallagher. He had purposely invited them to the hospital, where Doctor Hanson could further explain his condition.
“Alpha Theo is right. How Luna Gwen got pregnant may be a miracle,” Doctor Hanson presented. “The Alpha’s sperm is incapable of getting an egg fertilized.”
“If one miracle could happen, then another one can,” Odessa indicated. “Look, Theo, I am not making her wrong right, but if there is a chance that she could become pregnant with your child, she cannot live under those conditions in the dungeon.”
“Besides,” Odessa added. “Her only mistake was to talk lowly about Gwen. It is not a grave crime.”
“No, she talked back to King Arthur! And it was the order of the king!” Theo reminded.
“But Theo,” Gallagher pointed out. “If Madison would turn out pregnant, could you really live with yourself knowing that the child she would carry is yours? What will this child say about you when the pup grows old? He or she might not even survive the living conditions in the dungeons.”
“All we are saying is, in the meantime, let’s get Madison out of the dungeons. Let her rest well. Allow her to nurture her body while we wait,” Gallagher added. “If she doesn’t become pregnant, you can return her to the dungeons.”
“Still, I think the punishment for talking back to the king is a little too severe,” Odessa commented.
A low growl left Theo’s lips. He snapped at Doctor Hanson, who was standing behind them. Theo asked, “How soon can we tell if Madison is pregnant? When did the insemination happen exactly?”
Brody was with them in that small office at the hospital. He said, “Alpha, Doctor Hanna, the same one who facilitated the insemination, said it happened five days ago.”
“In this case, following an insemination, it will take at least two to three weeks for us to get a clear test, based on how werewolf pregnancy age,” Doctor Hanson reported. “As for the DNA test, it will take a week longer for the pup’s DNA to be found in the mother’s bloodstream.”
“Usually, an alpha pup will develop faster, and thus, the detection will be sooner,” the doctor added. “We can get everything cleared out in less than three weeks.”
“Fuck, that long?” Theo cussed.
“Three weeks is not that long, Theo,” Odessa pointed out.
Theo’s body expanded in anger, his claws lengthening. He growled, “I swear, Madison will pay for this!” He turned to Brody and declared, “Make sure Doctor Hanna pays for her involvement in this too!”
“Fine!” Theo said to the two elders. “Because a possible pup growing inside of her, she can be released from the dungeons! However, she will be on house arrest!”
~ Gwen ~
Meanwhile, at the hotel, Juliet asked Gwen to follow her into their suite’s balcony.
Gwen was deeply unsettled by the news that Madison might be pregnant with Theo’s child. She lost count of how many deep breaths she took, but her heart ached at the thought of sharing Theo’s attention with a child that wasn’t hers.
“Gwen,” Juliet called. “Don’t worry. This woman, Madison, can’t get pregnant with Theo’s child.”
“How are you so sure, Mom? I mean, I got pregnant!” Gwen responded while turning to her mother.
“I think you got pregnant because of your gift. Your blood and your fluids can cure others. In Theo’s case, if it’s his sperm that has a problem, then maybe they got cured inside of you, and you got pregnant,” Juliet suggested.
Gwen’s mouth fell on the floor. She put her hands on her abdomen and said, “You are right, Mom. That could be it!”
“So if this Madison does get pregnant, you know what to do,” Juliet said while turning to the view of Port Leon. “I don’t know if I should say this, but… learn to fight for what truly belongs to you, Gwen.”
Gwen smiled at Juliet. She asked, “So, you are okay with Theo now?”
“I don’t know.” Juliet chuckled. “But Ian loves him so much. The pup can’t stop talking about how great his father is. I won’t deny the different kind of happiness Theo gives my grandchild. So, aside from yourself, learn to fight what belongs to Ian too.”
Gwen pondered. Then, the idea of having another child made her flush. Aside from wanting to test the theory, she acknowledged how her son wanted a sibling.
Theo and her had sex twice, and both were unprotected. So, what were the odds of her getting pregnant again? For now, Gwen held on to that thought.
~ Madison ~
“I know this may still feel like a prison, but this is better than the dungeons,” Madison’s aunt, Melissa, expressed.
It was already late evening when Theo granted Madison’s temporary release. Madison was utterly relieved to be out of the stinky prison that had been her home for the last few days. She had hoped she would be given a little more freedom, but her house was guarded by warriors.
“Aunt, thank you for staying here and helping me,” Madison said.
“Of course, we are family. When your parents heard about what happened to you, they were the first to reach out to the elders. They would not turn a blind eye to their daughter,” Melissa said. “They are also returning to plea to the king about your case.”
Madison grabbed her aunt’s arm and said through gritted teeth, “I want revenge on Gwen.”
Melissa’s eyes rounded. She looked around before whispering, “I don’t think it’s a good idea.”
“I know someone who can help me get rid of her,” Madison claimed. “I have become friends with one of the prison guards. I can implement my plan if you can help me get him to relocate and be part of the warriors guarding me. You can also ask Caroline to help me.”
Melissa frowned and softly replied, “What exactly is your plan?”
“You see, Gwen? She doesn’t know how to fight,” Madison formed a smirk on her face. “If we take her out completely, her parents will be so disappointed in Theo. For sure, they will take Ian away. Then, my child will be the only heir of Port Leon.”
“But, how are you sure that you will get pregnant? Didn’t you say the insemination happened just a few days ago? We have yet to run a pregnancy test on you,” Melissa pointed.
A smirk became painted on Madison’s face. She said confidently, “I know I will get pregnant. I am sure of it. I know Theo will hate me for what I did, but in the long run, he won’t be able to deny my pregnancy.”
Madison and her aunt argued about the plan, but ultimately, Melissa said, “Okay. I think the Miracle Doctor must also pay for getting me fired.”
