                    ~ Gwen ~
It was finally time for King Alexander to return to his nation. He urgently needed to bring back the bodies of Silas and Rafi so their families could mourn for them. Gwen and Theo met the king at the hotel that accommodated them.
A total of six cars were prepared to leave for Stormreach. Some were escorts commissioned by Beta Ivor to protect King Alexander, and most of them were His Highness’ royal guards.
Arlo and Ashton, who were almost better, decided to leave with the king. Gwen was confident their bodies could already heal their wounds, so she gave them their discharge order.
“Doctor Weneth, we thank you for saving us,” Arlo said, extending his hand to her.
Gwen took his hand and also shook Ashton’s hand. The royal guard said, “We owe you our lives.”
“No, please,” Gwen responded. “If it were not for you, maybe I would have died, or maybe my son would have been taken.”
Gwen was teary-eyed, declaring, “My son and I owe you our lives. I wish I could have saved Silas and Rafi. I will forever be thankful to them and to their families.”
“They died with honor, and we knew what we were getting into,” Ashton assured Gwen. He turned to Theo and said, “We also thank Alpha Theo for the generous gifts he gave us.”
Gwen smiled at Theo, impressed that he had not only given the royal guards monetary rewards but also gifted them exclusive products available only through the trade in Port Leon.
“No, I thank you for protecting my mate and my son. You and Arlo will always be welcome in my pack,” Theo said to them.
“I guess this is a temporary goodbye,” King Alexander said. He turned to Theo and reminded, “When all this is over, Alpha Theo, remember that we are getting our Miracle Doctor back to Southern Alfar.”
The second Alexander said that Theo’s body tensed. He deeply breathed and answered, “I don’t think so, My King.” He grabbed Gwen by the waist and claimed, “We are fulfilling our destiny as fated mates.”
“Really?” Alexander leaned back. Then, he turned to Gwen’s parents, who were standing two meters from them. “I don’t know how that can work. There are too many patients waiting for the doctor’s return.”
“We haven’t discussed that, Gwen,” George said with narrowed eyes.
Gwen made a face and responded, “Um. We have yet to talk about it, right, Theo?”
Theo squinted at her, but she gave him a puppy look. So, he momentarily let it go. For now, Theo said, “If Gwen’s patients cannot wait, they are welcome to visit Port Leon.”
On the other hand, Ian, who was with Juliet, said, “Mommy, we are not leaving Daddy.”
“Well, I can see how hard that decision will be,” Alexander remarked. He gazed at Gwen and then back to Theo, adding, “I only hope that if Doctor Weneth and Ian decide to stay here, all of Port Leon’s pack members have fully accepted them.”
“There has been a big progress, King Alexander, and I partly thank you and King Arthur for it. Your presence fully convinced my pack of Gwen’s identity,” Theo revealed.
King Arthur’s treatment was about to end in three days. It won’t be long now, and Gwen would have no more reason to stay unless, of course, she made the final decision that was best for Ian, and that was to stay with Theo.
“Did you visit your brother, My King?” Gwen asked Alexander.
With a nod, Alexander replied, “I have. I told him I would return when he is fully healed. Actually, I was hoping that you could convince him to stay here for a little while longer after he receives his full treatment. You know, just to be sure.”
Gwen was surprised by the request, yet she understood the king’s reasoning. If someone was indeed targeting King Arthur, Port Leon would be the safer choice. She replied, “We’ll do our best, Your Highness.”
“As for Luna Juliet and Alpha George, are you certain you are not flying back with us?” The king asked Gwen’s parents.
Juliet and George looked at each other. They had been going around Port Leon for two days, going house to house and searching for Janice in every establishment. However, she was nowhere to be seen, which was why they remained.
“We will wait for when King Arthur is fully healed,” George said. “It won’t be long now.”
“Very well then,” King Alexander acknowledged with a smile. He returned his attention to Gwen and said, “Goodbye. I’ll see you soon, Doctor.”
After King Alexander left, Gwen’s parents followed Theo to the Blue Valley Pack. They would meet employees who often crossed to Port Leon, hoping one of them was Janice. Baron came with them as an escort to George and Juliet. Thus, Gwen was left alone at the hospital while Jacob momentarily watched Ian at the packhouse.
In the afternoon, Gwen had tea with the king, including Theo’s mother. Catherine could now walk and was really starting to open up to Gwen. Gwen cherished this and considered it in her upcoming decision.
After the hospital, Dunken drove Gwen home to the packhouse. When the car reached the driveway, Dunken reported, “There is a commotion two miles from here. I’ll check it out first, Luna.”
Dunken smiled and requested, “Please, stay home.”
Gwen laughed. She did not reply and simply exited the car. She thought it was too much that they were being too protective of her while within the pack.
At the house, Gwen found Ian sleeping in his room and Jacob making more sweeteners. Since Theo was not yet home, Gwen decided to go out for a run. She got changed and left quickly.
She was supposed to call Dunken or Rollin if she ever left the house, but she figured she was just going to hike nearby. It was completely safe. Moreover, people around her have started to change.
Yes, surprisingly, Theo’s pack members no longer stared at her with disgust. In fact, many looked guilty but could not express it. Their remorse and apology merely shone in their eyes.
Gwen eagerly went along with her run. Over the past few days, she had barely worked on herself because Theo kept taking her, including her energy!
It was a beautiful late afternoon along the trail. The sun was setting, and the breeze felt perfectly calm. The tranquility of nature brought a smile to Gwen’s face. Everything was perfect until a warrior with dark skin and a bald head suddenly appeared before her.
Gwen was unfamiliar with the warrior. At first, she assumed he was simply scouting the area, but she soon noticed his intense, almost sinister expressions, as if his intentions were dark.
“Excuse me, are you following me?” Gwen asked.
“You don’t deserve to be our Luna,” the warrior said while flashing his lengthened fangs. “You should have never returned.”
“Now, that’s not really for you to decide, is it?” Gwen sarcastically replied.
“You are overconfident for a doctor who can’t fight,” the warrior barked, and he laughed. “We are going to have to teach you a lesson. First, I am going to knock you out and have fun with you before I slit your throat!”
“And forget about getting saved. I know where Rollin and Dunken are. I also know that Alpha Theo is at the other territory with your parents.” The warrior laughed sinisterly as he claimed, “This is the end of the line for you.”
“If you are my only enemy, I don’t need Theo to save me,” Gwen confidently said, irking the warrior.
The unknown man simply mocked her. He shifted into his wolf and lunged at Gwen!
The warrior appeared fiercely determined and sure of his success, but in an instant, his eyes widened in shock, and his confidence wavered.
“What the - Ahhh!”
