                    ~ Gwen ~
During Gwen’s last attack, she fought hard but was up against a group of rogues. Her current attacker was a single warrior who did not have the same energy level as her older brother, Baron.
Gwen did not know this man, but he had a different scent in general amongst warriors of Port Leon. So, she figured, the fellow was a transferee from Theo’s new territories.
“Prepare to die,” the warrior declared before he shifted into his wolf and lunged toward Gwen.
Gwen stayed focused. His actions played in slow motion in her head. By the time he was in midair, she smirked and gave him the biggest surprise of his life!
Thrusting her right arm in the air, purple light swirled around her arm. She called for her moonstone blade, and the mark on her arm vanished as soon as the weapon was in her grasp.
The warrior’s bold look quickly changed to confusion, and Gwen momentarily saw the fear in his eyes.
“Arrggh!” Gwen screamed, thrusting her blade forward while leaning her body back. She wound up slashing through the enemy’s flesh, and he wailed in pain.
Rather than clawing Gwen, the warrior lost his composure, reverting to his human form with his hands clutching his chest. He still stumbled into Gwen, but she used all her strength to push him away!
“Aaah! What the fuck are you?!” The warrior cried in fear as he put pressure on his bleeding chest. “You bitch!”
His wound was not so deep, so he still managed to get up and shift back into his wolf. This time, he looked more ferocious as he assailed!
At first, Gwen managed to evade the warrior in her human form, scaring him with the sharpness of her blade, but eventually, she realized she needed more strength. Gwen leaped into one tree while the unknown warrior ran back to brace himself. She lunged herself forward and transformed into her wolf in midair.
The warrior was, yet again, caught off guard as she practically flew above him. He was clearly shocked to see a purple-glowing she-wolf!
When they both landed on the ground, the warrior growled, “You are an abomination!”
“Really? Can’t I be a gifted child of the Moon Goddess?” Gwen asked before she lengthened her fangs and her claws. She ran in his direction before the warrior could react, startling him with a frontal attack!
With her sharp claws, she injured the warrior’s arms!
“Arggh!” The man crouched in pain. He glared at Gwen, once again stunned. “I thought you couldn’t fight?”
“Whoever said that surely wanted you dead!” Gwen suggested before quickly shifting into her human shape and calling out her blade.
“No! No!” The warrior attempted to flee, but Gwen managed to slash his back as he turned around for protection.
This led the man to shift back into his human form because he was bleeding profusely now. He growled, “What kind of blade is that?”
Indeed, the Purple-Eyed werewolves were blessed with lethal moonstone weapons. As for Gwen, her blade could cut through the flesh, thus explaining the warrior’s look of horror. Gwen smirked and growled, “It’s a gift from the Moon Goddess!”
She was prepared to stab him again when he suddenly screamed, “You said she was weak? I did not sign up for this! You lied!”
Gwen’s hand hung midair, recognizing that someone had sent him. Clearly, he was mindlinking.
Her eyes narrowed, finally knowing what to do. She slashed the warrior’s legs before she willed her blade back. With every force remaining in her, she punched him in his abdominal brain. The blow knocked the wind out of the attacker, causing temporary paralysis and disorientation.
Gwen did not want to risk resuming fighting with the warrior. Either she would kill him or knock him out. She chose the latter, and hopefully, Theo and his warriors would get the information out of him later. She hissed at the warrior, “You are lucky; I need you alive.”
Just when the warrior fell unconsciously, Dunken found her. He screamed, “Gwen! Are you okay? Fuck, what happened here?”
“This is what happened,” Gwen pointed to the warrior. “Someone sent him to attack me.”
Two hours later.
“You could have gotten hurt! What if he came with someone else!?” Theo was scolding Gwen furiously in his office. His face had turned red, and his body was expanding in anger.
“I did not get hurt,” Gwen retorted. “Instead of getting mad at me, we need to figure out who sent him!”
Gwen later learned that the warrior’s name was Raul. He had recently moved to Port Leon from another of Theo’s territories, and because he was new, his recent job included guarding the prison.
“Ahh!” Theo screamed in frustration. He embraced Gwen and whispered, “I never want to lose you again. I can’t go over that again, Gwen.”
She felt Theo’s pain in an instant, her eyes brimmed with tears. She hugged him back and said, “I’m sorry. People around here were starting to see me differently. I did not think someone would be out to harm me within your pack.”
Theo cupped her face. He kissed her and said, “I don’t know how you managed to immobilize him, even wound him to that degree, but I’m glad you fought your hardest because if anything had happened to you, I don’t know how I would live with myself. I don’t know what I would tell our son.”
Gwen gasped. With Raul aware of her moonstone blade and that she hadn’t killed him, she realized it was time to start sharing her secrets with Theo. She breathed and said, “Theo, I—I can fight and defend myself. The rogue attack was different because we were greatly outnumbered.”
When Theo frowned, she further explained, “Dad and Baron had taught me how to fight, and-” She gulped, adding, “I - I -”
A knock on the door interrupted their conversation. When they turned, Brody walked in with the report, “Alpha, Raul had recently come in contact with Madison, her aunt, Caroline, and the warriors who guarded Madison’s house.”
Brody looked down and admitted, “Raul was the nightguard in Madison’s cell. Then, Caroline recently requested Raul to be part of the warriors guarding Madison.”
“Great,” Theo ran his fingers through his hair. “I can’t believe my sister got involved in this.”
“Call Caroline! Now!” Theo demanded. “Ask around about Raul.”
‘Yes, Alpha,” Brody replied.
Raul was still unconscious and unable to speak. Thus, the only way to get the truth out was through the people he had recently interacted with.
When Brody left, Gwen blinked repeatedly and asked, “Could Caroline still hate me so much that she would ask someone to kill me?”
“No, she has been seeing the truth lately. I promise,” Theo assured her. “She hasn’t been confronting you, right?”
Gwen shook her head, recalling her recent encounter with Theo’s sister. They have not been fighting. Caroline would stay silent the past few days if they met at the hospital or made an excuse to leave Catherine’s room.
“Then, there must be a reason why Caroline made this order. She is in charge of some of the warriors’ assignments. Maybe it’s just a coincidence. I will know more later,” Theo assured Gwen.
Because of Brody’s news, Gwen could not share her abilities with Theo. She figured it could wait until she heard Caroline’s side. Because if Caroline wanted her dead, then she would not stay in Port Leon.
~ Theo ~
Theo spread the photos of Raul’s injuries on the table and showed them to his sister. He asked, “Are you good friends with this warrior?”
“Oh, goddess, what happened to him?” Caroline reacted with fright. “Was he attacked?”
“Are you friends with him?” Theo asked again. Then, his alpha aura filled the air, and he commanded his sister. “As your alpha, I command you to tell me your relationship with this warrior and now!”
Caroline gasped. She leaned back and replied, “Theo? What the -” She gulped and answered without hesitation, “I knew him because warrior assignments were one of my duties. Recently, Madison’s aunt pleaded with me to transfer Raul to guard Madison’s house - “
“Why?” Theo asked angrily.
“I don’t know, Theo!” Caroline barked. “Madison’s aunt told me that Madison felt safer around Raul. Other than that, I don’t know anything else. Why and why are you so angry?”
“Why did you order the transfer?” Theo barked, his body expanding in anger.
“Because - because I felt sorry for Madison. She was so in love with you, Theo, that she had to resort to insemination? Fuck! I just thought that I could do this one favor for her!” Caroline answered.
Theo sensed no lie from Caroline’s words. So he freed her from his alpha command. When the tension in the room died down, he asked, “Do you still hate my mate?”
Caroline looked up to Theo and wavered. Soon, she cried with her hands covering her face. His sister probably wept for minutes before she finally explained herself, “I hated it when I no longer have someone to blame for my family’s death, but I know now I was wrong. I just can’t bring myself to apologize to Gwen. I - I don’t know how to face her. What if - what if she doesn’t accept my apology?”
“I was - I was so hard on her,” Caroline said while wiping the corners of her eyes.
Theo was stunned by Caroline’s admission. He stared at the closed door and knew that Gwen was listening outside. He glanced back at his sister and said, “Why don’t you have that talk with Gwen now.”
“Come in, Gwen!” Theo ordered, and Caroline jerked in her seat, her head snapping in the door’s direction.
